“The Netherlands is packed with smart people”, Hein Molenkamp, managing director of Water Alliance explains. “They are trained in centres of excellence, such as the so-called Technological Top Institute for Water Technology, Wetsus in Leeuwarden, a research institute of exceptional high standing. But there are accomplished colleges of further education too, such as the NHL and the Van Hall Institute with the Centre of Expertise for Water Technology (CEW), where applied research is carried out in partnership with the business community. We tie in this know-how with industry on a worldwide basis.”

from idea to market from know-how to businessWater may be the source of all life, but it is a fragile commodity! The global market for water is demanding ever more innovative solutions for producing cleaner, cheaper and safer water. With its vast know-how and experience, its organisational skills and strength in governance, the Dutch water industry is ideally equipped to meet the challenges of innovation. In the Northern Netherlands there has been a long-established focus on water. Statutory bodies, knowledge-based institutions and public and private companies and organisations are united under the banner of the Water Alliance. Together they form the European Water Technology Hub, the physical heart of which centres on the Water Campus in Leeuwarden.

This link-up takes place, in particular, at trade fairs and during Water Square meetings at the Water Campus. Here, different market players, from a whole range of countries worldwide, meet each other, thus providing a match for supply and demand, often in the presence of partners such as regional development corporations (for example, the NOM, ) (Regional Investment and Development Agency), the Chamber of Commerce and others. In this way, know-how and expertise in the fields of industry and investment come together at a single location.

• Offers support and advice in matchmaking and marketing• Along with government, knowledge-based institutes and the business community, forms the ‘chain of innovation for Water Technology’. • This is a chain of links between education, specialised research, test programmes, specialist laboratories, an application centre, demo sites and, last but not least, marketing, matchmaking and successful business. • Collectively, all these partners form the European Water Technology Hub, with its physical heart at the Water Campus in Leeuwarden, Capital of Water Technology• International contacts, from China to Canada. • Supported by the NOM , Chamber of Commerce, numerous other organisations and water technology companies • In conjunction with the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), Innovatieplatform Watertechnologie, the VLM industry association and AquaNederland
