    The raw material needed to produce drinkingwater may come from different sources(springs, aquifers, rivers, oceans), andappropriate technologies have to be used.The available space and the volume of waterto be treated also determine the technicalchoices.     SCADA

    On the SCADA side, Schneider Electric oers seamless, integrated and scalable

    Network

    Ethernet, which has proved itsel over the years as being the reliable industrial

    Membrane fltration

    Reverse osmosis is the most common

    technique used or desalination, and is as

    an alternative to distillation. It may also be

    used to recycle water to produce drinking

    water rom wastewater. Nano ltration

    is another example used or instance

    to produce drinking water rom surace

    water.

    Membrane ltration is an up and coming

    water treatment technology, or both

    industrial and public use. The reduced

    space needed or the plant and its ability

    to treat all types o raw water are key

    drivers.

    Membrane technology has meant that

    water treatment has changed rom being

    a batch process to a continuous process,

    which has led to higher perormanceconstraints. High pressure is the key

    Using several variable speed drives is a way o increasing

    system availability. Embedded programmable cards provide

    a specic advantage.

    Each pump is controlled using a variable speed drive, with

    a controller inside the card. The various drives and their cards

    are connected via a communication network. Only one pump

    (the duty pump) is under variable speed control during normal

    operation. The duty is passed rom one pump to anotheron a time basis.
