Water PollutionBy: Davis, Toland, Leo, and James
Point/Non Point SourcesNon point source pollution is usually a result of
storm water runoff. Point source pollution is water that comes from one discrete place like a drainage pipe or a ditch.
Ways to Reduce water Pollution
Do not poor things down the drain that could pollute waterways. Don’t dispose of any chemicals or toxins. Simply conserve as much water as possible (don’t keep the tap running, don’t dump extra water from your glass down the sink just drink it).
Land UsesAgricultural activities effect water quality when
more nutrients are added to the soil when needed, and then drain into water ways. Discharges from waste water treatment plant are also a big source of pollution.
Water Pollution SourceSome of Michigan’s biggest water pollution
sources are storm water runoff and trash being dumped into streams.
Local Water AgenciesA couple water agencies in Michigan are The
Friends of the Rouge and the DEQ (the Department of Environmental Quality). Using this information, we hope to reduce water pollution and protect our water.
