Objectives of the PI Lot 1
1. Based on concrete experiences feedbacks through joint pilot projects on basin management, water quality protection and ecosystem conservation co-create new information, knowledge and recommendations on water management and ecological security, together with Chinese partners based on IWRM/NEXUS/ river basin approaches.
2. learning from European practices and adapting them to better fit in natural and socioeconomic environment in China,
3. develop strategic policy dialogues with Chinese counterparts,
4. co-design of strategic plans within water sector and also with other sectors organized by the Focus Area and the Horizontal activity of the CEWP
Target groups Ministry of Water Resources, Development Research Centers, Water Conservancy Commissions and local authorities (Water Resources and Environmental Protection Bureaus); sectoral users, water and sanitation services and operators...
BeneficiariesChinese citizens of the Basins, Policy makers (incl. local authorities)
Estimated results1. Policy recommendations,
2. Dissemination of the results,

Building on bilateral co-operation project Lakes in Trouble 2012-2014, funded by Chinese academy of sciences and Academy of Finland
IWRM based lake restoration end enhancement of public private partnership and water quality standards in Lake Taihu (China) and Lake Pyhajarvi (Finland)
1. Compare and analyze the ecosystem in the lakes Taihu and Pyhäjärvi, as well as eutrophication status, hydrology and nutrient circulation within the basins
2. identify and compare methodological differences in monitoring and status assessment of the Lake Taihu and Lake Pyhäjärvi.
3. analyze and compare pressures and demonstrate measures to address significant pressures taking into account the linkages between water, food and energy (nexus) in changing climate
4. Demonstrate and testing DPSIR (Driving forces; Pressures; States; Impacts; Responses) framework and establish index system
5. Analyze and enhance public-private partnership (PPP) in IWRM 6. Contributes to a comparison of the governance and management practices in

integrated and participatory basin management planning (Hai river Basin),
restoration (Nanxi river & PES)
IWRM based lake restoration end enhancement of public private partnership and water quality standards (Lake Taihuand Lake Pyhajarvi).
WP4 : Communication and dissemination of the results
To disseminate the collective experience consideration to produce policy guidance, to build capacity through specific training sessions, to communicate as widely as possible on the project’s development

Status of the PI development
From a global perspective, the project which started in Jan 2018 shall be carried out in accordance with the original plans:
• The coordination of the work packages activities and of the internal and external communication of the project (WP1)were launched on schedule and assessed positively. It doesn’t experiences any particular difficulties except perhaps of some reporting task that could be simplified;
• The 3 Pilot cooperation projects (Nanxi River and Taihu lake - Eastern China, Luan sub-basin - North-East China, Lake Pyhäjärvi - Finland) and the exchanges of experiences (WP2), which form the core of the Action, are satisfactorily under development and lay the basis for the beginnings of the policy papers to be elaborated at the end of the global process (WP3).
• The business-related activities have been planned to startearlier than imagined to take advantage of the identified WaterTech Expos the CEWP had planned to attend.
Tentative agenda (to be updated)
• How to take advantage of any relevant events to seek for areas of synergies and promote CEWP PI?
• 2019:• INBO General Assembly (June)
• 2020:• IUCN Congress (June)• COP15 biodiversity (October)
• 2021 • World Water Forum 9 in Senegal (March)
