UAMN Virtual Family Day: Water Water Habitat Collage Water is essential to all living things. Many plants and animals live in water habitats, and those that don’t live in the water still need access to water to grow and thrive. Try creating a collage of a water habitat! Materials Needed: Paper, scissors, glue or tape, crayons or markers, habitat collage printable (or draw your own), other craft supplies (yarn, tissue paper, paint, pipecleaners, ribbons, etc. You can use whatever supplies you have!) Ocean Habitat Example Instructions: Step 1: Choose a water habitat, such as an ocean, river, lake, or wetland. Think about what animals and plants live in that habitat. To learn about where animals live, go to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game website: Animals: www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=animals.main Freshwater Fish: www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=ffinventory.species Step 2: Create your habitat! You can use construction paper, tissue paper, yarn, markers, crayons, paints, ribbons, or anything else you have available. You could even use twigs or leaves. Be creative! Step 3: Add animals and plants to your habitat. You can use the ones provided, or draw your own. River Habitat Example Think and Discuss: How do the plants and animals in each habitat interact with each other? Do humans live or travel in the habitat? What effects do they have? How is water important to life on Earth? Sea Ice Habitat Example Learn more about habitats at: kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/nature/habitats/
