Water Baptism for Children s a children’s ministry we are grateful for the opportunities to partner with you to connect your child to an authentic life in Christ. Each week we speak into the life of children the importance of knowing God through Jesus, learning His Word and living life looking to Him in every decision, every day. A big step in this journey is following the Lord’s example in water baptism. If your child has expressed a desire to be water baptized, we just want you to know how exciting that is! And we are here to help you decide if the time is right for them. To begin with, when a child begins to ask questions about it, that’s a good indicator they are close to being ready to make this next step. While younger children can and do have a relationship with Jesus, they will not necessarily remember or understand the significance of this event, so we encourage parents to wait until they are a little older. Whatever the case, we are here to partner with you if you discern your child is ready to be water baptized. Here are some helpful questions to ask your child: 1. WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE WATER BAPTIZED? Answers that indicate your child understands: -Because Jesus was baptized and he tells us to also; -Because I’m a friend of Jesus and I want to follow Him. 2. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE WATER BAPTIZED? Answers that indicate your child understands: -It means I’m following Jesus; -It means I am SAVED...I repented of my sins and asked Jesus to come and live in my heart and I want to show the world. -It’s a picture of what Jesus has done on the inside of me. 3. WHEN DID YOU DECIDE TO FOLLOW JESUS AND BECOME HIS FOREVER FRIEND (BORN- AGAIN, SAVED)? Answers that indicate your child understands: -Your child should have a specific memory of when he or she made the decision to repent (turn from a life of sin) and asked Jesus to come and live in their heart. It may have been at church, at home, or even sometime when they were alone. If Your Child Is Ready: If you feel your child understands what it means to be water baptized, and are excited to see them take this next step of faith, then please visit the Reverb.church website and get them signed up under the events tab. Our Next Water Baptism is at the beach - Saturday July 25 th 2020 If Your Child Is Not Ready: If you don’t feel your child understands what it means to be water baptized or just isn’t ready, it’s totally appropriate to wait. Remember, water baptism does not save– your child trusting Jesus does that. A teachable moment would be to let your child observe a water baptism and talk to them further about what it all means. Whenever they are ready – we will be here! A

BAPTISM

aptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. Following a person’s salvation, he or she may elect to go

before the church community to be baptized in water as an outward profession of a decision to follow Jesus. Baptism is a symbol. Being immersed in water and then raised up again represents the cleansing that occurs when we accept God’s gift of salvation.

e baptize to follow Jesus’ example. (Luke 3:21-22) Since Jesus was without sin, we often wonder why he was baptized. There are many

schools of thought in answer to this question but we simply need to know: Jesus was baptized as an example of obedience to this important act. And now, we are baptized to follow his example. We baptize because Jesus told us to. It is an act of obedience when we are baptized ourselves and baptize others in his name according to the instructions of scripture (see below for examples).

nyone can be baptized after receiving God’s gift of salvation. The Bible makes reference several times in the New Testament to those

who first, acknowledged their sins and asked forgiveness (received the gift of salvation) and then were baptized. (Matthew 3:6 + Acts 2:38)

There is no age requirement for baptism, however, it’s important that we make a decision to accept Jesus and fully understand the meaning of baptism before taking this important step.
