DEFINITION
A wastewater treatment plant is an industrial structure designed to remove biological or chemical waste products from water, thereby permitting the treated water to be used for other purposes.
Functions of wastewater treatment plants include:

Environmental, social, economic and public health problems increase exponentially due to mismanagement of water resources

ARGUMENT I70% of the wastewater in Colombia are not treated
and are used for crops
Studies show that some vegetable crops which are plants that are consumed as food (carrots, beets, lettuce, beans, spinach and parsley,etc) absorb the dirty water and grow with it.

ARGUMENT II Public health, social and economic problems.
• The main impacts associated with the drinking water and sanitation in the country are related to public health.
• The limited availability of drinking water, contamination with fecal waste , and inadequate personal hygiene are associated with diarrhea , hepatitis A, typhoid, cholera , and shigellosis , among others.
• In Colombia, from 2000 to 2007 were recorded between 4'400 and 3'500 thousand respectively cases of diarrheal diseases.

• Damage to the pump from the local treatment plant, left without water aqueduct holds 4,000 population of the village of Palmaseca, where the international airport is located.

CONCLUSION The application technologies for treating waste water, exponentially
decreases the spread of disease, so that the death of many people is avoided.
The wastewater treatment through the application of technology is no longer important and has become essential for the proper development of human beings.
The mismanagement of the money intended for the treatment plants cause the civilian population can not access or use of potable water
