to song writing. He seems to know what sounds good and is able to come up with the most mind blowing riffs and writes about ten songs a week. He’ll come to practise and he’s like “I got some new ones “and has this ability to write them near enough on the spot.” FOR SUCH A NEW BAND WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE AMOUNT OF ATTENTION YOU ARE GETTING?“It’s just mind blowing to be honest

year is to get our name out there with the E.P and get as many gigs as possible, then next year get on-board with some bands that we have previously played with and look at getting a tour going, that and getting a video sorted (using social media again there) and possibly get onto the festivals circuit as well. So getting the groundwork in now so that we can promote fully next year. The main thing is to keep the momentum going cause we weren’t going to do

the E.P yet but we decided due to the amount of attention we are getting we wanted to get something out there.”

FOR THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW, WHO ARE YOU? We are That Night Forests Grew from Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. Ash - VocalsWill - GuitarJames - GuitarJay - BassBen - Drums DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO A FIRST TIME LISTENER? “We are a Melodic Hardcore band heavily influenced by the Post - Rock genre. We say that we appeal to people that enjoy listening to the Post-Rock/Melodic Hardcore genre.” HAVE YOU GOT ANY NEW MATERIAL COMING SOON?“We have a new single that is in the works at the moment, with a self produced EP coming, which is in the finishing stages of writing. We are really excited for this release. It is the best stuff we have written out of all the bands we’ve been in. The lyrics are so hard hitting and the overall music side of it, to us, is flawless. We approached writing this EP with Will and James coming up with guitar parts, demoing their initial ideas, showing the band and then working on the song in the practice room. We feel with this EP we have matured a lot from our previous release ‘Eyes of the East’ and hope to give the people, that love listening to our music, the best release possible. We released ‘Eyes of the East’ in late January and have had great response, with Faith, Love, Hope promotions (a melodic hardcore promotions page/YouTube channel) sharing our single which now has over 1,000 views. WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO GET INTO ALTERNATIVE MODELLING AND HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT IT?“I used to do more mainstream stuff a few years ago. I missed it but didn’t feel I could go back to it after putting on weight and having a very ‘different’ look. After a couple of months of mutterings my always positive Boyfirend Nick gave me a almighty kick and told me to get on with it, you don’t know if you don’t try, he recently started over again with a new Heavy Metal band after being out of the loop for years, and it’s going from strength to strength! I booked a shoot with a photographer who I paid and then used those images to start a facebook

page. Things just went bang from there! I did a lot of shoots with local people just for the images. I am really lucky to have made some fantastic friends within the industry and as such have been able to work with a lot of different photographers, clothing companies and other alternative models. I have had so much help from them all which I am so grateful for. I feel it can only get better from here; it has only been 3 Months after all!

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?I” wear a hard hat and a high vis! REALLY! No joke! I love heavy Metal and go and support as many local bands as possible, as well as the bigger ones (DOWNLOAD!!) I enjoy taking photos, mainly live performance stuff. I also love drawing and walking our lovely pooch Milo!”

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE BAND/STYLE OF MUSIC?“As many of my followers know I love heavy metal. Im not sure I can choose a favourite band but I especially love Black Sabbath, Slayer, Iron Maiden , Metallica and Pantera and Black label, The Sword, Skindred… I’m really not very good at narrowing this down!” WHAT WAS THE BEST LIVE SHOW YOU’VE BEEN TO & WHY?“By far, Download Festival last year. Anthrax were amazing really interacting with the crowd and so much fun! Listening to Metallica’s Black album live was amazing. But by far the icing on the cake for me was Black Sabbath. I literally cried!” TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR INK?“My favourite tattoo is my Black Sabbath cross, it’s crud but I have some fantastic plans for a lower arm sleeve that will really give it that something, but that’s all your getting, you’ll have to wait and see! My first tattoo was bought by my Daddy for my 18th Birthday, it’s the rose on my ankle. I had my rose done at the same time as my dad was having some re-colouring done so it was great to sit next to him while we both got inked! Everyone in my family has tattoos, even my Mum! She has a beautiful rose on her back very similar to mine done by an amazing artist who is no longer with us. My latest Tattoo is my Evil teapot! Designed and inked by the talented Matty Lee of ‘The Tattoo Studio’ in Morecambe.”

WE FIND YOU PASSED OUT IN YOUR TOWN CENTRE, DRUNK OUT OF YOUR TROLLEY ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN & WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING?“I’ve been rocking out in the Yorkshire house to a live band, knocking back Jagerbombs and Jack Daniels and Cokes, then no doubt wombled across to The Bobbin and finished myself off with a pint of Old Rosey! Literally trollied, maybe, getting pushed home in a Sainsburys trolley by the better half!” TELL US ABOUT YOUR FUNNIEST DRUNKEN MOMENT?“Oh dear! Well I had been left home alone by the better half, he was on a lads night out. So, thinking ‘stuff him, I can have a good night by myself’ slapped on the Just Dance, cracked out a bottle of blue Bols and Apple vodka and polished the lot off. Nick came home to me chucking up electric blue yuk and then I fell asleep on the bathroom floor…. Let’s just say, I haven’t done it again since!”

The Hertfordshire boys; CHASING CADENCE took some time to tell us what’s currently going on in their world! SO DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO A FIRST TIME LISTENER?“We’ve been labelled many things, post hard-core, pop-punk and even emo! But we’d call ourselves hard rock. Our influences are bands such as Young Guns, Devil Sold His Soul, Mallory Knox, Deaf Havana, Funeral for a Friend & Taking Back Sunday.”

HAVE YOU GOT ANY NEW MATERIAL COMING SOON? “We’re currently in the process of writing a 5 track E.P. which we are recording in July. The writing process can be difficult at times but so far we are really happy

with it. We’re also planning on having 2 guest vocalists on the E.P. from some well-known bands.”

YOU’RE RUNNING A HUGE SUMMER FESTIVAL OF YOUR OWN, WHO WOULD BE PLAYING & WHAT WOULD IT BE CALLED?“It would definitely have to be called “Brutal-fest” but despite the name it would feature a range of genres. The Beatles is a must! Pantera, the big 4! Don Broco, Led Zeppelin. There’s too many to choose!”

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FIRST EVER GIG?“Our first show was in Watford at a little venue called The Flag, it was just a standard first show really, not to bad but not great and made us realise that we needed to get a lot better and actually practice the songs we’d written if we wanted to go anywhere with it. We’d like to think we have come a long way since then. However I’m pretty sure our bassist Mike still doesn’t really know the songs. Haha.”

HAVE YOU EVER HAD ANY HORRIFICALLY EMBARRASSING MOMENTS ON STAGE?“Recently Rob jumped off the stage to get amongst the crowd, only to find that the stage was to big to get back onto. After contemplating what to do for a while, a graceful bum shuffle returned Rob to his rightful place. Rock & roll right?”

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT AS A BAND TO DATE? “Considering we’ve been together less than two years I think we’ve achieved a lot. Some of our most proud moments have been when supporting the likes of Hildamay, Shadows Chasing Ghosts and Paige but also sitting

down and hearing the final mix of the tracks we’ve spent hours slaving over.”

YOU’VE OBVIOUSLY SPENT A LOT OF TIME TOGETHER, HAVE THERE EVER BEEN ANY SCRAPS BETWEEN BAND MEMBERS?“During the recording of our most recent video “Young”. Rob & Jack had a bit of a lovers tiff over Jacks eating schedule, the moral of the story is don’t get in between Jack and his food.”

IF YOU HAD TO GO INTO THE DRAGON’S DEN & SELL YOUR BAND, HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT IT?“If we were playing a set for them then we’d have to be as outrageous as possible, standing on their desks, kicking their piles of money to the ground and thrusting into Debra Meadens face. Other than that, we’d like to think the music would do the talking.”

THEY SAY YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY. TELL US YOUR FAVOURITE, MOST USELESS FACT?“Did you know that if an unstoppable force were to hit an immovable Mike Moonshine then all the bumble bees in the world would die and the earth has 380 seconds until the 4 horsemen come and drag us all away to Jupiter?”

WE’RE NOT GRACED WITH MANY OF THEM, BUT WHICH LADY IN MUSIC ARE YOU CRUSHING ON? “I’ve always had a thing for Frankie from The Saturdays, the ladies in Lecarla always look lovely! And I’m quite sure Frank has a thing for Boy George.”

WHAT IS THE MOST LISTENED TO TRACKS ON YOUR IPOD’S AT THE MOMENT?“Mallory Knox album, Don

Broco’s album, Young Guns latest album, Deaf Havana’s deluxe album and ‘It’s Raining Men’ by The Weather Girls.”

IF YOU COULD BE ANY OTHER (LOCAL) BAND FOR THE DAY, WHO WOULD YOU BE & WHY?“I think we’d all like to be Scholars for one performance, those guys are fantastic and they blow us away every time we play with them! Plus the singer is mental, I’d love to be in his head.”

WHO HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE BAND TO PLAY WITH SO FAR?“We always love playing with our friends in The City Divided, it was also great playing alongside Count The Days. But supporting Hildamay and Shadows Chasing Ghosts has to be up there. They’re all lovely lads and great musicians.”

WHAT’S NExT ON THE AGENDA?“We have some great shows coming up at the end of March (Harlow Square, Cambridge Junction, Welwyn Gdn City Green Room and The Garage, London) but we’re actually going quiet for a little while to focus on the E.P to be released around autumn through We Will Prevail Music.”

Hopefully we’ll be touring in June but details are to be confirmed.

We at Wasted! Magazine love to hear about a band which does things a bit differently, and England’s Landscapes are just such a band. With a hardcore sound tinged with more intricacy and a somewhat unique lyrical theme, they’re setting themselves apart from the horde of three chord and a breakdown hardcore bands that we all see so often.

We caught up with frontman Shaun in London, on the Rocksound Exposure Tour to talk about all things Landscapes.

SO TO START, CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE BAND?“Ok, so, a lot of people want to call us a melodic hardcore band, although I think of us more as just a hardcore band, or maybe even just a rock band. We’re based in Frome, Somerset, although I don’t actually live there, I live in Wiltshire in a

little village. The band used to be called Counting Days, with a different vocalist and I was on tour with some friends at the time; driving and doing merch and stuff, and I came back and got offered the opportunity to take on doing vocals with them. We changed up all the songs and decided that we’d change the name of the band and then it’s gone from there really.

YOUR ALBUM CAME OUT JULY LAST YEAR, CAN YOU TALK TO US A BIT ABOUT THAT?“We took main inspiration from bands like Go It Alone, Life Long Tragedy, sort of older bands really, and it sort of seemed that there’s a lot of bands doing the same sort of thing, circling stuff around love and questions of love and so on, and I felt that it had been exhausted so I wanted to write something with a different concept. The concept I guess is about the idea of being

let down by friends, being frightened of growing old and dying alone, and just sort of losing contact with friends and you worry you’ll be alone as you get older, and you worry if it’s your fault. It’s quite a deep one but at the same time I think it’s valid anyway.”

AND HOW HAS IT BEEN RECEIVED?“Really well! We’ve had loads of positive stuff said about the album, and our live performance, but at the same time I take that with a pinch of salt you know? Just because we hear the positive stuff doesn’t mean that people don’t like it! I’m aware that some people don’t like it, and that’s cool, I don’t expect everyone to. Sometimes I don’t understand how certain people understand what the album is about, because I feel that they may be too young to understand it, but it’s cool either way!”

DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR FUTURE RELEASES?“We’re not in any rush to release something this year; we may do, depending on how things come together, but we’ve got songs that we’ve been writing since the album was released, and some before that which we were playing with. But with the album, it’s a whole concept of something, and we wouldn’t want to release another Life Gone Wrong, it’d need to be something of a different concept, so no, we aren’t in any rush to sell records or keep a hype, it’s more about writing the right record for us.”

HOW DO YOU FIND THE CURRENT STATE OF THE UNDERGROUND SCENE?“I don’t really have a lot of time for it to be honest. I think that the British hardcore scene hasn’t got a lot of time for me, and I don’t have a lot of time for

it in return. We don’t really have much in common with those kind of bands, I’ve found there’s a lot of bitchiness between bands, whereas in other countries you find that other bands will look out for you and have your back, whereas it’s really dog eat dog for us in this country. For other bands they find it a kind of community, but we’ve never had that, we’ve had certain bands that are our friends, but there are bands that we figured were cool, but then have said shit about us, which is fine you know? We don’t expect to be understood or whatever, so I guess it’s just one of those things; you’re either part of it or your not, and if you’re segregated from it, you can feel isolated but it’s just one of those things.”

HOW ARE YOU FINDING YOUR CURRENT TOURING PARTNERS (THE

GHOST INSIDE, BURY TOMORROW & STRAY FROM THE PATH)?“Amazing! It’s probably been the best tour that we’ve ever done! It’s a shame that it’s so short really. The type of bands that they are, they don’t have the same sort of sound as us, although some people may argue that! To me, we’re all completely different bands, but it’s a good comparison to have on a line up you know? We’re not one of those bands that wants to build up a crowd, we don’t have breakdowns, that’s not the scenario we’re after, we want to create more of an atmosphere. For Stray From The Path, they have a completely different approach, same with Bury Tomorrow, same with The Ghost Inside, so it’s a really nice sort of mixture of different types of bands within the genre.”

HAVE THE CROWDS BEEN RECEIVING YOU WELL?“To a certain degree, and I would say that for us the crowds have been a bit stagnant. The crowds for us haven’t moved so much, but we’re new to these people, they aren’t coming to the shows for us, they’re coming for the headline acts so I think more than anything we’re just really appreciative that people have shown up early enough to check us out, even though they may not know what we’re about or what we sound like. It’s a really nice feeling to see people making the effort, which is not what we’re used to at all.”

WHAT’S NExT?“Well tomorrow we do a show with Stray From The Path in Norwich at the Waterfront for Mike Darkside, which will be rad because we get to stay on the road with those guys for longer. We were supposed to do some more dates with them but we’d agreed to do a euro run with a band called Counterparts, so that takes us through Belgium, Germany and Italy, then back up, which will be fun. Then the 1st date in Antwerp we’re playing with Bury Tomorrow which will be good, and Counterparts have been on tour with Your Demise, who are playing down the road tonight, which is a shame, but we’re gonna dart across and check each other out all night!”

WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE AS A BAND IN 5 YEARS?“If you’d have asked me when we 1st

started the band I wouldn’t have been able to tell you and I don’t think I have a good answer now. We’re happy with where we are right now. Obviously we’re not a high earning band or anything, and it’d be nice to earn some money sometime, but again I’m happy with where we are, and if we weren’t a band and we didn’t release much else after this then I’d still be satisfied. We’re just really grateful for people making the effort to check us out, even though they may have never heard of us before.”

With their unique sound and realistic perspective on the music scene, Landscapes are a name to take note of, and with a suitably powerful live performance, they are sure to keep on getting bigger and better.

Tonight’s show at Islington’s O2 academy may not be sold out, but the venue is pretty rammed, and the air of expectancy and excitement are tangible, even in the cold air in the queue.

1st up are Somerset mob Landscapes, who we interviewed in this issue. Their unique, breakdown free hardcore is a refreshing spin on a genre which is often very bland. Their performance is powerful and emotive, and manages to get the crowd pretty pumped up, despite the band not being the most established group of artists around. (7/10)

Next on are Stray From The Path, a band with an awful lot of hype around them. Their songs seem to be fairly politically charged, and the band waste no time in getting the crowd to run around

and go crazy. They’re a tight band for sure, but there is a lack of diversity in the setlist, and the odd electronic noises coming from the guitarist’s pedal board soon seem like a gimmick. A shame, as the band have some real promise! (6/10)

Main support are Southampton’s finest sons - Bury Tomorrow. They are on fire of late, and tear the venue apart with their powerful metal core songs. If you’ve never seen them live, they give a performance which brings to mind Parkway Drive shows, and that is a great thing indeed. The crowd lap up the bands tunes, screaming the lyrics back at frontman Dani, and generally having a great time. With a brilliantly chosen set and such a powerful performance, it’s a real shame that BT aren’t headlining, but it surely won’t be

long until they are! (9/10)

It’s up to The Ghost Inside to follow up Bury Tomorrow’s powerhouse performance, and they just don’t seem up to it tonight. It’s a shame, as when they’re on form they really are a great band (never more apparent than when supporting A Day To Remember in 2011, or Parkway Drive in 2012). Tonight they are still on great form; they’re tight, heavy and the crowd obviously loves them, there’s just not quite the same spark as there was for BT. That being said, they are a highly enjoyable band to watch, and, although the floor seems a bit emptier now, the crowd go suitably nuts and have a great time, and that’s all that really matters. (8/10)

After what seems like an age since they last played in the UK, Bullet For My Valentine are back with a new album (which we reviewed this issue too!) and a new setlist to go with it. We headed down to the Roundhouse to see what’s what.

Opening the show tonight are rising metalcore stars Miss May I, who were playing here in London not so long ago, and return now to open for a band who they’ve always wanted to play with. They’ve mixed the set up since December, and tonight open with Relentless Chaos which serves to get the crowd well and truly pumped up. The band are getting better and better live, and tonight is no exception, even if the crowd seem a bit oblivious to them. They seem to have them won over by halfway through, and from there on out it’s headbanging and horn throwing galore! The energy that this band have, and their passion for straight up heavy metal is something that all young bands should aspire to, one to watch for in the future for sure. (8/10)

Main support comes from Halestorm. Grammy award winning Halestorm no less, and while the teenage boys in the crowd love the fact that they’re fronted by a lady, it’s a very...

he has a commanding stage presence and an equally impressive voice live, belting through everything without a problem.

It’s good to see that the band that a lot of people had written off as has beens can still rock with the best of them, giving an impressive live performance with all the big songs to fit the occasion of playing in this great room. The crowd love every moment, and sing along loudly and passionately for the entirety of the bands set without ever pausing for breath. The set is split up a bit by small instrumental breaks played by Matt and Padge; Matt going for a simple guitar and singalong to The Last Fight, and Padge choosing to demonstrate his technical ability with the lost art of soloing on stage. A real highlight of the set is when the intro track from The Poison is pumped into the venue, before the band come back onstage for a triumphant rendition of the old classic ‘Her Voice Resides’, which is a very welcome addition to the set. Overall then, a very impressive showing from a band, who are sure to stay at the top of their game for years to come.

contrived performance. Everything about the band seems fake tonight, from the way the drummer has dressed up, to Lizzy Hale’s stage presence and the fact that her guitar is turned up way too loud, it all makes it seem like a bit of a fad. It’s a shame because she seems like a pretty talented singer and the band are all probably very competent musicians, but it just lacks sincerity and all reeks of record label bullshit. On a positive, they have some catchy tunes and play together well, plus the drummer is a very energetic chap. Other than that though, it’s all just a bit...meh. Dissapointing. (4/10)

Tonight’s show feels like somewhat of a homecoming for Wales’ favourite metal export; it’s been over a year since the band last played a show in the capital and since then, all sorts of turmoil seems to have befallen the band. Everything seems to be back in order tonight though, as the band are in fine form, playing a selection of their best songs from all four albums with a startlingly tight, accurate feel. Bullet’s tracks from new album Temper Temper sound impressive when played live, and the old favourites feel just as heavy as they ever did. Frontman Matt Tuck has really come into his own as well,

The Barfly is a venue which has seen some truly great shows over the years, from a whole host of sub genre’s, but tonight really seems special for some reason. Perhaps it’s because the headliner’s are yet another worryingly heavy Australian band, and one of the most exciting death metal acts on the planet? Perhaps…

Opening are Lincoln metallers Martyr Defiled, who are yet more proof that here in the UK we really do have some of the best talent in the world for heavy music. Their sound is crushingly heavy, and the crowd absolutely love it; I can’t remember seeing a crowd get so into an opening band for a very long time. There’s crowd surfs a-plenty, and many singalong moments, all of which prove how much the fans love MD. The quality of their songs alone should solidify them as one of the UK’s

finest metal bands, and the live show to match is just an added bonus. (8/10)

Here Comes The Kraken are up next, and are somewhat of a let down on the bill. They fail to get the majority of the crowd involved or even interested, and their is a case for them to be opening instead of main support, but that’s not the key issue. The problem is a lack of quality songs and hooks, there’s no real tangible reason to want to stand and listen to this band, which is a real shame. Technically they’re pretty tight, the vocals are good and there’s some meaty riffage, but overall it’s all a bit like a ham sandwich; edible but nothing to get excited about. (4/10)

Thy Art Is Murder stalk up to the stage, and proceed to concisely demonstrate why people are going so nuts for them. Even when he’s

really ill (physically throwing up on stage), vocalist CJ is an absolute monster, and the crowd revere him in an odd, cult like fashion. Let’s look at this objectively, TAIM are a death metal band, who have only been around for a few years, yet here tonight we have a room literally packed with fans screaming along to every word. It’s really quite the sight to behold, and marks this as one of the most fun shows I’ve been to in a good old while. The band captivate the room in a way which you’d only expect to see in a much older and more established act, a very impressive achievement indeed. TAIM have the tunes to get people going as well, with Reign Of Darkness and Whore To A Chainsaw going down like nobody’s business. Expect to see these guys get pretty huge, and please, go see them live. You’ll have a blast. (10/10)

ReVIewS!Bleed From Within - Uprising

Scottish metallers Bleed From Within are set to take over the world with the release of their 3rd record; Uprising. It’s been a long time coming, due to some label issues and wanting to make a perfect record, but it sure has payed off. Uprising is an astonishingly good slab of heavy music, and comes with everything you want in an album - Grooves, hooks, some shredding guitars and fantastic production. It’s got the lot in spades, and has a very Lamb Of God vibe to it, with some huge meaty riffs and some of the best vocals in the scene. The song writing is spot on as well, with each track being crafted to the most exacting standards, all to create an album which really towers over pretty much everything else out right now.

It’s hard to pick the best tracks, but if forced to, I’d have to plump for ‘Strive’, ‘I Am Oblivion’ and ‘Uprising’ as personal favourites. The whole record is one which should be played absurdly loudly, so you can fist pump along and bang your head like a loon, and that’s the sign of a great release; it makes you want to go nuts. Uprising is the album that will launch Bleed From Within into the highest echelons of the metal scene, and if it doesn’t then it’s a very unfair world we live in. All of the bands efforts and troubles over the years have really payed off, and this record stands way above anything they’ve released previously, as well as marking them as one of, if not THE best British band at the moment. Bullet For My Valentine - Temper Temper

If there’s a band that most people wrote off as a fad, it’d be Bullet For My Valentine. But, 7 or 8 years on from the big metalcore boom and the fucking amazing record ‘The Poison’, which shot the band to the top of the tree, and Bullet are still about and going strong. Really strong actually, their last 2 albums have significantly outsold the last 2 Green Day records in the USA, an impressive feat for 4 blokes from Wales. Temper Temper is the bands 4th release, and is certain to divide opinion among their fans. Die hards will be saddened by the lack of screaming and the thrashy guitars and fast tempos of the previous releases, although this is no bad thing. At 1st listen, Temper Temper was somewhat flat on my ears, but after a few listens it really does begin to grow. It has a certain appeal, and has a fairly upbeat vibe, the kind of tracks that you want on when you’re driving around in the car.

The production on this record is pretty immaculate, and you can tell that a lot of effort has been put in to make this a high calibre piece of work. The guitar tone specifically is one of the best I’ve heard in a very long time, and gives a very ‘stadium anthem’ sound and feel to the record. Matt Tuck’s vocals have matured as well, creating a signature voice which just has Bullet written all over it. These tracks may not be as heavy as The Poison, or Scream Aim Fire, but when played live the slower tempos should make everything sound pretty heavy and the big choruses should certainly get the singalongs going. My pick of the tracks are; Living Life (On The Edge Of A Knife), Temper Temper, Tears Don’t Fall Pt 2 and Breaking point, all of which have the air of the old Bullet along with the new sound mixed in too. Some of the other tracks feel a bit weak in comparison and could be seen as filler, but overall, there’s enough good stuff to make this an album worth checking out. (7/10) - Jake Owens

For The Life Of Me EP Review: Closure

Despite losing two members shortly before hitting the studio, the dedication of Oregon quartet For The Life Of Me need not be doubted as they pertain to succeed in releasing a stunning debut EP. “Eleven” is the track to greet you in to the ‘Closure’ EP and it is certainly a welcome mat and a half, with a hair-raising guitar tone that commences the start of your journey. Vocally, front man Lee Parks does For The Life Of Me the pinnacle of justice, flaunting his capability of drifting effortlessly between his delicate vocal snippets and throat-scratching punk yells. Next track “TV In My Head, Part II” rolls forth as another strong component of the band’s arsenal. There are times when the track feels a little sluggish, but when the band combine to bust out their beefy sections, there is a spark in the core of their playing that is on the verge of inciting goose bumps. Third track “Winter Sleep” brings everything down a notch but still latches on to the positive vibe that pulsates throughout the entire EP. Lyrically, For The Life Of Me have a lot to bring to the table and can be proud in saying that their lyrics hold true intellectual meaning. Musically, the persistent variation that echoes through every track makes the EP an ideal piece to have on repeat and never grow tired. Final track “Sung Out of the Blue” proves to be a perfect end to precessions, with the effortless yet almost schizophrenic transitions between melody and mayhem. Overall the quartet has produced an EP of feel good music that contains enough catchy hooks to keep you lusting for more. They are a band that wear their influences on their sleeve yet work to ensure their originality still prevails and that work has most definitely paid off.

For Fans Of: Brand New, Make Do and Mend, Balance & Composure

Hailing from West Yorkshire, this post-hardcore five-piece are giving it everything to crack 2013 like a leftover Easter egg.

Chapters gets off to a punchy start with ‘Caught Red Handed’ and it encapsulates everything they are about in one neat, well-produced package. Monstrous guitars and drums are paired perfectly with melodic clean vocals and abrasive screams. The dual vocal approach automatically gives these guys a certain Yashin-esque charm, occasionally sounding like a beefed up version of The Blackout.

‘Through Ashes’ is the most immediately likeable track which chugs its way confidently into an enormous up-tempo chorus plagued with infectious overlays. Effectively placed bass drops introduce breakdowns like a firm punch to the head, and screams are used efficiently throughout whether it’s for subtle echoes or full-on vocal assaults.

‘Open Your Eyes’ begins with a seemingly unnecessary military-themed intro, but redeems itself with one of the biggest and more obvious sing-along choruses on the EP as well as an exceptionally brutal bridge. A cover of Rita Ora’s R.I.P. is a nice touch and brings an unexpected element of fun to the EP.

Tracks like ‘In Your Bed’ and ‘This is the End’ are both solid performances but Ben Flockton’s vocals serve to create a sound almost too similar to Funeral For A Friend. Overall, this is a solid offering but perhaps Road to Horizon need to pave their way a little further before they can truly develop their own sound.
