Large Item Service

Items collected include: Household waste, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines, couches, mattresses & more.

Residents can schedule 2 free pick ups per year, a minimum of 3 months apart.

To participate in Large Item Service:

1. With your utility customer accountnumber handy, call 403-320-3934 toschedule a pick up.

2. The scheduler will discuss appropriatepick up items with you.

3. Place the items neatly away from yourregular weekly household waste (24hours prior to your scheduled pick update).

Waste & Recycling Centre Free Saturday Disposal (up to 250kgs)

The program is year round and provides residents with another option to manage their additional household waste.

Please note that all loads entering and exiting the centre must be secured to prevent waste and litter from blowing onto area roadways and ditches. See the Secure Load Policy at www.lethbridge.ca

Leave at least 3ft of space behind your cart and 2ft of space at both sides and in front of it.

Return your cart to your property by the end of your collection day.

Bag your waste to prevent litter from blowing from your cart when it is being emptied.

Make sure the lid on your cart can close.

Do not put construction material in your cart.

Do not put household hazardous waste, paint or electronic waste in your cart.

Do not place material on or beside your cart.

Do not put over 200lbs (90kgs) of waste in your cart.

Yard Waste Recycling Sites

The City of Lethbridge operates three centrally located, staffed Yard Waste Recycling Sites to help residents manage their branches (up to 8” in diameter), grass, leaves and garden waste. Yard waste is accepted in paper bags. Yard waste in plastic bags must be debagged at the site.

Recycling Programs GrasscyclingGrasscycling is the natural recycling of grass by leaving clippings on the lawn when mowing. Grass clippings will quickly decompose, returning valuable nutrients to the soil.

Grasscycling provides a number of benefits:

Reduces yard waste disposal, which makes up 1/3 of the residential waste stream

Saves landfill space and reduces the emissions produced from the clippings in the landfill

Saves the time, energy and expense of bagging and hauling your clippings

Saves the gas and energy required to transport and process your clippings

Reduces the need for fertilizer and the demand for watering by providing nutrients and moisture to the soil

Due to improvements in 2009, the Lethbridge Regional Landfill was renamed the Waste & Recycling Centre. The improvements increase environmental protection and offer customers a higher level of service.

Tips for Grasscycling, an easy and simple opportunity to do something good for the environment:

make sure your mower blade is sharp

mow only when the grass is dry

only cut 1/3 of the grass blade height

Only paper yard waste bags are accepted for the program.

An unlimited number of paper bags may be set out for collection.

Residential Fall Leaf Collection

The City of Lethbridge now provides an annual curbside Residential Fall Leaf Collection program in October and November. The program provides for two passes through each residential neighborhood to collect leaves in paper bags.

Christmas Tree Collection

Live trees are collected for free in January. Place your tree at your waste collection location (but away from your waste cart) by 7am on tree collection day. Call 403-329-7367 or visit lethbridge.ca for tree collection day.
