    Waste management is the process of managing the garbage, sewages and

    other waste products. It involves the collection, transportation and disposal

    of waste materials and recycling.

    For our project we have chosen the village Medra, Gandhinagar. The journeyfrom IIT Gandhinagars temporary campus to the village is around 20km.

    Initial Work Plan:

    By this week, our goal is to find and note down the different types ofwastes generated in the village and their sources. For this we split our

    team into two parts and survey the waste products in the village.

    During the next two weeks, we will interact with the villagers andvillage authorities and discuss about the problems of waste

    management and dumping zones. We will visit and inspect the dumping

    areas.

    Before mid-sem, we will analyze the main problems of wastemanagement in the village and their negative impact on the

    environment. We will also see the ill effect it had on the people.

    After mid-sem , based on our previous studies, we will figure out andimplement some new plans and ideas that will improve the waste

    management in the area, minimized waste products or use it for

    recycling, and ways to make efficient utilization the waste products.

    Spread community awareness - by giving waste education to the peoplethrough posters and interactions with the villagers, the risk of health

    problems they can face due to improper waste management, and the

    benefits of recycling.

    Estimated Budget :

    Assuming auto and bus fare to be about Rs 1200 for one trip, and

    we go for 6-8 times. The average amount with including other things

    (like poster printing) is approximately Rs 8000.

    Summary :

    The project is about understanding the waste management that

    prevails in the village and create lasting solutions to improve the quality of lifefor the inhabitants of village. The project aims at educating the people about

    waste management, the ill effects of waste products on the environment and

    the people, how to efficiently use resources and how to benefit from waste

    products (like recycling). The ultimate purpose of this project is to provide an

    overview of the main problems caused by waste improper management in the

    village, and suggest pathways for improving the present situation.
