Benjamin Banneker was an African American astronomer, mathematician, surveyor, farmer and inventor.
Who is Benjamin Banneker?
Banneker’s Accomplishments In 1754, when Banneker was 24
years old, he made a clock out of wood, which told time for 40 years!
Banneker’s Accomplishments In 1790, when Benjamin
Banneker was 60, Thomas Jefferson asked him to join Pierre L’Enfant and a team of surveyors to plan Washington D.C.
Banneker’s Accomplishments An argument broke out,
however, and the French artist and engineer Pierre L’Enfant left the team and took the plans for the city with him!
Banneker’s Accomplishments According to some, Benjamin
Banneker saved the day when he recreated the plans for Washington D.C. from memory.
