1.0 Solvent (see Safety Data Sheet)

BALDWIN will be responsible for and guarantee the perfect function and washing performance of the - Automatic Blanket Cleaner (ABC), - Automatic Impression Roll Cleaner (AIC), - Plate Roll Cleaner (PRC), - Automatic Press Washer (APW), only when one of the washing agents that has been recommended by BALDWIN and been tested for the compatibility of materials with a view to the cleaning unit is used.

It has to be taken into account that the use of any solvent in BALDWIN cleaning units requires the app ropriate release from the press manufacturer as well.

Warning: To avoid fire and explosion hazards, only cleaning agents with a flash point > 55°C (danger class A II I) may be used as per EN 1010-2.

- Damage to components of the washing unit resulting from the use of other washing agents are excluded from the

warranty liability. - BALDWIN decline any responsibility with regard to side-effects of the solvents that will cause damage to the printing

plates, the blanket, and any other press components. - When the cleaning unit is used for washing the plate cylinders, only burnt-in plates may be used. Failing this,

BALDWIN decline any responsibility. - The solvent manufacturer is reponsible for the uniform formula of the tested solvents. - An adequate corrosion protection of products miscible with water must be guaranteed (min. 2-50 A3 to DIN 51585). - Solvents must not be mixed together. Before changing to a solvent of another composition, completely drain the unit including all hoses and spray units of

the washing units and flush with water Subsequently fill the unit with the new solvent

- Use of any other solvent than that recommended by BALDWIN

- may affect the washing performance and - may result in damage to the pressure pads at the washing unit and seals of the pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems.

- Please contact BALDWIN should you intend to use UV washing agents. - Note to the washprogram Depending on the washing agent selected and the application concerned, an alteration of the washing programs

may be required. The solvent selected (from the list of "Approved solvents") by the customer must be indicated to BALDWIN when the

order is placed. Please inform BALDWIN in advance (8 weeksbefore) and in time when a change to another recommended solvent

is made at a later date without fail, since this might require altering the washing programs. The costs incurred by such a change are to be paid by the customer.



When the alteration that may be required is not carried out and/or when the washing agent is changed during the warranty period, BALDWIN decline any liability. Any costs incurred to be paid by the customer.

Request the safety data sheet from the supplier concerned without fail. 1.3 Cleaning the Ink Rollers When Using Hybrid Inks (only relevant for Sheetfed presses) To obtain clean ink rollers with a view to the production run when changing over to conventional inks after having used hybrid inks, we recommend that you proceed as follows: First contact the ink manufacturer concerned to determine which of the solvents on the solvent list will be suited best. Cleaning the ink roller frame: The ink rollers are wetted with a hybrid cleaning agent in order to remove the ink. Use a corresponding washing program. After completion of the washing program manually apply a roller shampoo or a similar agent onto the rollers at roller washing speed. Allow the applied roller shampoo to work in at roller washing speed for several minutes – (follow the instructions given by the ink roller manufacturer). Subsequently clean the ink roller frame either by a plain water program or a solvent/water program - (follow the instructions given by the ink roller manufacturer). This program is to ensure that the slight greasy film on the rollers, especially on the Rilsan rollers, can be removed. Repeat this process as required so that all residues will be completely removed from the rollers. In persistent cases, brush on ink of the following production and run a washing process subsequently to get additional help. After the repeated washing process, the ink supply will feed automatically the subsequent ink for the next job. In this connection we also refer to the recommendations and instructions by the press manufacturer. 1.4 Approved Solvents Approval list: See appendix



2.0 Softening agent (also see the Safety Data Sheet by the manufacturer s concerned) A softening agent is to be added to the washing water of the Automatic Blanket Cleaner. (depending on the water quality approx. 1-2 %)

Check the type of the water softener to be used wit h BALDWIN. This water softener reduces the surface tension of the washing water and also increases its washing efficiency. - Prevents the water from splashing - detaches slight troublesome piled-up paper coatings - counteracts deposits of calcium carbonate on the blanket - no formation of algae and/or fungi in the water storage tank - corrosion inhibiting

3.0 Water quality BALDWIN will warrant the washing system to work perfectly only when water of perfect quality is used to avoid lime deposits in the system.

Attention: The water used for washing must have a hardness ran ge and a pH value of (see table) When water of a lower hardness is used, the corrosion hazard is increased. Therefore deionized water, reverse osmosis water or distilled water must not b e used. When water of a higher hardness is used, there may be undesirable lime deposits in the system. If required, use a suitable water conditioning plan t after consulting with BALDWIN.

3.2 Disposing of the soiled water that is no longer required

Attention: Soiled water that is mixed with water softener and is no longer required must be disposed of properly. —> See paragraph “Water softener”



4.0 Washcloth

In order to guarantee an effective operation of the BALDWIN Automatic Blanket Cleaners, the washcloth

"SONTARA PrintMaster 8835", 1. Qualität, Color türkis by "DU PONT" bzw. -"PREPAC"

must be used. (Available through the BALDWIN Automatic Blanket Cleaner dealer) This non-fuzz, non-tearing washcloth removes ink and solvent from the blanket quickly and completely. Tests have shown that this washcloth has a higher tenacity and absorbs liquids faster than other customary washcloths. This ensures perfect cleaning and troublefree operation.

BALDWIN decline any guarantee for any defects at or complaints about the Automatic Blanket Cleaner or the printing press that are caused by the use of another washcloth. 4.1 Washcloth "SONTARA 8835"

The applied water and / or solvent as well as the detached dirt are bound in the washcloth.

Attention: Dispose of the used washcloths in accordance with t he relevant rules in force (take it to an incineration plant). The plastic material of the packing is not suitable for incineration; dispose of it separately. The customer is responsible to get information on t he relevant local rules and regulations at the pollution-control agency.

Caution: - The washcloth is impregnated with flammable solve nt - There is no explosion hazard except near open fir e. - Max. 200 rolls of washcloth may be stored in unop ened condition. - Packed units do not present any explosion hazard unless they are

exposed to open fire. - The packed washcloth must not get into contact wi th materials above

120°C Note: Make sure the wash cloth is stored in a horizontal position. When the washcloth is stored vertically over a prolonged period, the solvent contained in it will centre on the bottom side of the washcloth. Do not open the packing for safety reasons and for longer life of the product. Only open the packing immediately before using the washcloth. Mount the washcloth in the washing unit immediately after having unpacked it. Storage with the packing opened must be on a metal or plastic base, if wood or paper are used the solvent will penetrate into the wood or paper placed underneath.

Storage temperature 0-50°C (32-122°F) - at 20-100% relative humidity

Storage time in packed condition is some 12 months in upacked condition (on printing press) approx. 1 month.

Handling the washcloth

Attention The solvent is not volatile. When putting down the washcloth roll and / or when touching it, solvent will be transferred. Wipe off the solvent with a dry towel. Wash your ha nds with a cleaning agent (soap). Wear rubber gloves when handling the washcloth to a void any irritations of the skin.

Disposing of the used washcloth / packing

The detached dirt is bound in the washcloth.
