RESEARCH

I found it difficult to research for Grime magazines as there are none so I had

to use Hip Hop magazines as my research as it is a similar style of music.

Page 3: Warrens Presentation

THE TITLE

I chose the font of the title to be similar to the Grime Daily website because that is the primary source to find updates of Grime music so using a similar font and same colours allows Grime fans to identify that it is a Grime magazine.

WHY I CHOSE THIS?

I chose to do a Grime magazine because I am a Grime artist myself so

therefore I found it easier for what to include in the magazine especially is im

a grime fan I know what would appeal to people who like Grime. Also because I am an artist I could use myself for the interview so

it made iteasier for me.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS

As a result of not being able to findany other Grime magazines it wasdifficult to follow the conventions so Ihad to use Hip Hop magazines andfollow some of the conventions of thatsuch as the layout but because therewas no other Grime magazines so Icould use my initiative and adapt afew things such as the colours. What IFollow is the layout of a mid shotphoto in the middle with informationaround the photo highlighting famousnames so that can attract readers.

TARGET AUDIENCE (CONTINUED)

The majority of Grime music is targeted at black males becausethey started Hip Hop music eventually Grime music came about inThe UK but now more and more white males are attracted by thegenre which is demonstrated in my magazine as Melodi is anupcoming Grime artist who is a white male. However over the lastyear there have been a major increase in female Grime artists sogrime can expand, consequently my magazine can appeal tomales by the fact that it there is simply a male on the cover butalso females may be attracted by Melodi.

Race & Sex

TARGET AUDIENCE

HOW DOES MY MAGAZINE REPRESENT THEM?

HOW DOES MY MAGAZINE MEET THEIR NEEDS?

Page 10: Warrens Presentation

MISE EN SCENEThe mise en scene in my front cover is a Melodi wearing a baseball jacket which presents himself as fit and young also the lighting on him and the fact the camera shot is slightly in a low angle position shows dominance and power. In the contents it has Jacob wearing stylish clothes and presents himself in a boastful overconfident relaxed way to illustrate he knows what hes talking about when it comes to ‘swagger’. In the double page spread Melodi is seen crossing his arms which shows self-belief and the white hoody represents what type of people are interested in grime.

Page 11: Warrens Presentation

The captions at the top would be directed at dedicated grime fans who have had a passion for grime and know the genre well because it is achievements and honours of grime.

This is directed at Melodi’s fans and will attract them because it is an update of his latest music.

This will attract young upcoming artists because they can find it inspiring and will want to read inside the magazine.

Page 12: Warrens Presentation

Poor people can afford it.

This attracts fans outside the genre, people who are interested in Lady Gaga (which is a lot) will notice this and catch there eye as her name stands out.

Fans of any of these artists will be attracted to this magazine and these names are very well known in the grime scene which is why I made them white so they stand out.

A very successful grime song which reached number 5 in the charts not only will it appeal to dedicated grime fans, anyone who listens to the charts and likes this song will want this magazine as it has a copy the song.

IMPROVEMENTS ANALYSIS

Clearly, I have improved in many aspects since my school magazine, this is all due to my understanding of codes and conventions of a magazine, my experience with InDesign and the fact that I did the magazine about something I am interested in.

In terms of my familiarity with the programmes I used, my cropping of the mid shot photo was much better in my music magazine furthermore the colours I used in my school magazine were not appropriate and did not contrast well together, however in my music magazine I kept to 3 different colours which contrasted well together.

INDESIGN

I have improved my use of InDesign since I made my school

magazine, the only difficulty I had was cropping pictures where I

then had to use photoshop and import that into InDesign. Also

with InDesign I found it difficult to make a gradient in my

background and this was needed to ensure it was not just a plain

magazine. So I asked Jamie.
