When located outside the illuminated zone, the viewer’s eye is always in WARP9-LED’s glare-free zone.
When located within the illuminated zone, the viewer’s normal field of vision never includes all of the luminaire’s source.
The 140-70 PrincipleThe normal human field of vision is approximately 140°. By maintaining a sharp 70° cutoff, WARP9-LED achieves the optimum angle to block glare and still maintain wide pole spacings. In addition, even if the viewer does look toward the luminaire, half of WARP9’s reflector controlled LEDs are directed away from the viewer, automatically reducing glare by nearly 50% compared to other manufacturer’s refracted or lensed LED systems. The result is broad, uniform ground plane illumination and superior visual comfort.
Premium Comfort and Safety
KIM LIGHTING 2
WARP9 LED is the first outdoor area light to utilize LEDs properly and safely to effectively capitalize on the incredible efficiency, life, and brightness of Solid State Lighting technology. Just because LEDs are the wave of the future does not mean that designers should abandon the important safety practices and performance standards established by the industry over decades of study and refinement. Rather, WARP9 LED meets or exceeds currently adopted international outdoor lighting codes to maintain existing pole spacings, extinguish backlight pollution, completely cutoff uplight, and eliminate harmful glare which can significantly improve citizen safety.

Deeply Regressed SourcesSince WARP9’s LEDs are tightly controlled with reflectors, it was not necessary to place them at the lens plane to maximize efficiency. Glare and high angle brightness is significantly reduced.
Glare Guard Perimeter ReflectorWARP9 LED uses a secondary perimeter reflector system to capture miniscule stray light above 70° and redirect it towards the intended ground plane target. These reflector surfaces are precisely engineered to increase efficiency and visual comfort at normal viewing angles, and feature imported Miro4

Essentially miniature luminaires, a replaceable MicroEmitter
consists of a circuit board of three LEDs individually controlled by a hollow cap reflector. This efficient design leaves each diode’s main beam candlepower unencumbered while amplifying and redirecting any LED spill light. Each MicroEmitter is mounted in the WARP9 LED EmitterDeck, which is deeply recessed into the housing. Each MicroEmmiter is aimed to widely spread uniform illumination onto the ground plane while maintaining a sharp 70° cutoff. A secondary perimeter reflector blocks and redistributes any stray light out of the high angle zone to achieve a truly glare-free appearance. The result is comfortable, powerful, and properly shielded LED sources that only place light where intended, without the use of blinding, inefficient and ineffective refractive media.

Broad, Even Distribution
WARP9 LED eliminates the staccato of glare and hot spots experienced by drive lane users as they travel through illuminated zones. Other LED systems cannot achieve WARP9’s wide 70° reach. Unfortunately, other optically compromised products create a striped-street strobe effect with alternating regions of extreme brightness and darkness. The resultant human experience is annoying at best, but can be potentially hazardous under certain conditions.

The IDA Fixture Seal of Approval is a trademark owned by the International Dark-Sky Association.
Neighbor Friendly Backlight Elimination
Being neighbor friendly was an important requirement when developing WARP9 LED. Because each of its MicroEmitter™ modules are directed forward in its Type 2, 3, and 4 distributions, any backlight is precisely blocked to eliminate spill light and light pollution behind the pole or across property lines, and without any unsightly drop-down shield or efficiency loss.
WARP9’s versatile design also allows this Neighbor Friendly feature to be factory customized to illuminate sidewalks or other house-side zones where limited backlight is desired. Contact your Kim Lighting representative for additional details on creating custom distributions.

Advanced Technology Exclusives
WARP9 LED employs two distinct but complimentary methods to maintain the optimal operating temperature for its advanced LED sources: First, WARP9 LED uses dissipation and air flow to draw heat away from the fully sealed reflector chamber. Each MicroEmitter™ incorporates a solid aluminum heat sink, which is then snapped into the EmitterDeck™, a stacked and spaced removable carrier plate designed to maximize cooling surface area. This module is then fixed to WARP9 LED’s thick diecast aluminum housing and external cooling ribs to effectively disperse heat away from the optical chamber. In addition, a solid cast aluminum wall completely separates the LEDs from the breathable adjacent driver compartment, further improving LED and driver life.
Additionally, each WARP9 LED circuit board is equipped with an individual thermal junction monitor that automatically adjusts each LED board according to the ambient temperature. This feature allows the LEDs to realize their maximum life in extreme and fluctuating weather conditions including hot zones without overheating or failing. This, along with its very low EPA rating, means that WARP9 LED can be installed almost anywhere in almost any climate.

WARP9 Cloaking Technology
WARP9 is a new concept in luminaire design – visual stealth. Typical site lighting attempts to embellish, decorate, or adorn, often beyond the original architectural intent. WARP9 was conceived and developed with an entirely different directive. WARP9 was designed to disappear from the site, camouflage itself within its surroundings, and avoid detection from daytime visual perception. WARP9 is the antithesis of massive, showy, recognizable, and ornamental luminaires, allowing architecture to remain visually dominant as it was originally intended. WARP9 is a concept that is long overdue, yet one that is light years ahead of its time.

An Obsession with PerfectionWARP9 Cloaking Technology
WARP9’s housing and arm assembly are die-cast from low copper alloy (<0.6% Cu) aluminum for precision and repeatability. The housing is internally reinforced at the arm connection, and cooling fins are integral with the top and gear cover surfaces. This self-cooling feature substantially reduces the operating temperatures of heat-sensitive electrical components, promoting extended life.
A concealed die-cast latch is designed into the nose of the fixture allowing no-tool entry into the optical chamber1. In addition, the completely separated driver compartment is accessed through a flush, bottom mounted tool-less slide latch for servicing electrical components and wiring access.1

Modern Installation & Maintenance Features
KIM LIGHTING 18
Easy Installation & Set-Up Simple Maintenance
The attachment of lighting fixtures to poles is often a neglected detail that ruins a clean design with boxy armatures and exposed nuts, bolts, or screws. WARP9’s arm connection naturally integrates and blends with the fixture head for a clean, strong appearance without exposed hardware or attachments. WARP9 also utilizes an internal mounting-bolt system concealed within the arm, fixture, and pole for maximum rigidity and assured coupling.
Inside the pole top, a reinforcing plate receives the mounting bolts. A strain relief is provided on the reinforcing plate for securing the field wires. The cast-aluminum arm has concealed mounting bolts accessible through a flush cover that blends with the arm pre-assembled at Kim Lighting. The arm is configured to complement the fixture design and make the fixture-to-pole connection appear natural, logical, and homogeneous.
Ease of maintenance is a feature that distinguishes a lifetime product from an inferior substitution. WARP9 utilizes modular construction for easy installation and maintenance, and to allow for upgrading as source technology advances.
To replace an LED EmitterDeckTM, a single latch on the nose of the fixture opens the hinged frameless lens. If driver replacement is required, the entire electrical module is accessed through a separate latched door on the underside of the fixture, and includes quick-disconnect plugs on all wiring.
WARP9 LED uses modern plug-n-play mounting and connection features right out of the box that make installation a snap. In addition, WARP9 LED’s fully sealed optical chamber keeps bugs, dirt, and debris away from the LEDs for their entire life, and the tempered flat glass lens and rugged IP66 rating make cleaning simple and thorough.

A one-piece extruded and vulcanized silicone gasket seals the housing against the lens surface.
ELECTRONIC DRIVER MODULE: One-piece die-cast, low copper alloy (<0.6% Cu) aluminum with integral cooling ribs over exposed bottom surface. Integral hinges and slide latch with stainless steel hardware provides no-tool mounting and removal from housing. All electronic components are UL and CSA recognized and mounted directly to the driver tray for maximum heat dissipation.
LENS: Clear F" thick tempered glass lens retained by a stainless steel piano hinge and a single die-cast aluminum cam-latch. The edges are camouflaged to conceal the outer portion of the housing.
OPTICAL MODULE: Precision injection molded, high specular reflectors are positioned to achieve directional control toward desired task. Secondary high specular reflector 95% Miro4 panels surround the module to redirect light downward. No fasteners are placed on the reflective surface. The entire assembly fastens to the housing as a one-piece module and features wiring quick-connects for easy upgrading.
SUPPORT ARM: Heavy cast, low copper alloy aluminum with stainless steel mounting bolts. A pole reinforcing plate is provided with wire strain relief. Arm is circular cut for specified round pole.
FINISH: Super TGIC thermoset polyester powder coat paint, 2.5 mil nominal thickness, applied over a titanated zirconium conversion coating; 2500 hour salt spray test endurance rating. Standard colors are Black, Dark Bronze, Stealth Gray™, Platinum Silver, or White. Custom colors are available.
CAUTION: Fixtures must be grounded in accordance with national, state and/or local electrical codes. Failure to do so may result in serious personal injury.

LEDs and Absolute PhotometryThe LM-79-2008 absolute photometric principles for LEDs are new to the industry and are quite different than the relative photometric principals that have been used for years with HID luminaires.
TRADITIONAL RELATIVE PHOTOMETRYWith traditional relative photometric testing, the lamp is tested separately prior to testing the luminaire as a system to determine actual lumen output of the lamp. After the lamp is tested, the lamp manufacturers’ published initial lumen output is divided by the actual lumen output to determine a lamp factor. The luminaire is then tested and the lamp factor can be applied to all candela measurements.
LM-79 ABSOLUTE PHOTOMETRYAlternatively, the absolute photometric testing process does not test the source independently from the system. There is no lamp factor to adjust the output of the source to the lamp manufacturers’ published diode output. The LEDs are completely dependent on their function within the overall luminaire system to be accurately measured, and the lumen output data from the LED manufacturer should not be used because it is based on raw bare diode data collected prior to being assembled onto PC boards in the luminaire.
Small Specs Large Specs WARP9 LED and LM-79-2008 Photometry
(INDICATES STANDARD IES FORMATTING)
Actual Test Report
WHY DO LED LUMINAIRES USE THE ABSOLUTE PHOTOMETRIC TESTING METHOD?
1. LEDs in luminaires act like clusters rather than individual sources.
2. The output of individual LEDs is less consistent than HID sources.
3. The performance of an LED is dependent on its integration within the luminaire to account for thermal, optic and driver variables. Conversely, HID lamps are a single source and relative photometry accounts for these losses in the output data.
Kim Lighting’s photometry data for WARP9 LED luminaires are tested to the IESNA LM-79-2008 standard, and Kim Lighting will only use LEDs that are tested to the IESNA LM-80-2008 standard. Indication that photometric data has been tested using the approved LM-79-2008 method is the use of a negative one (-1) in the lumen output space of the photometric data file. Be aware that other manufacturers may elect to assign a lumen value to the photometric test report after the fact, however any IES report for an LED luminaire with a non-negative lumen value should be considered invalid, and does not follow industry standards established by LM-79-2008.
The following test reports (pages 24-28) reflect photometry performed under LM-79-2008 standards.
