The Neighbors in Need Fund was established to provide

financial assistance NOW to those residents of Warm Hearth Village who are unable to afford the full cost of their housing and care.

The Benevolence Endowment focuses on FUTURE needs of residents at the Village. The Endowment was established in 2003 by Village residents who wanted to ensure the Warm Hearth Foundation could provide financial assistance to those in need well into the future.

Our tradition of caring, and our mission to enrich the lives of all residents makes the Benevolence Endowment an imperative in

order to meet future needs.

Giving Back to the Community

Each year the employees of Warm Hearth Village participate in our Partners in Giving Campaign to benefit the Warm Hearth Foundation and the United Way. This year’s theme was the Village Lottery. Employees were entered into the Lottery based on their level of support for opportunities to win many fabulous prize packages. Contributions from fundraising events and payroll deduction gifts totaled over $14,500.

Lights of Love

The Annual Lights of Love Ceremony was held in December 2012. The illumination ceremony is beautiful and inspiring as candles are lit in celebration and remembrance of family and friends. This year’s ceremony recognized 140 individuals.

Contributions were made through the annual Lights of Love Campaign. In addition each year those recognized with a leaf on The Giving Tree are included in the ceremony. Lights of Love is a holiday tradition at Warm Hearth Village.

Employee Appreciation Fund

The Warm Hearth Foundation received a gift this year from the late Richard Rusk that allowed us to expand the

transportation services within the Village.

The Foundation was the recipient of a new Nissan Leaf. The Nissan Leaf is a 100% electric car and will be used by our transportation services to provide internal village transportation to residents.

The Leaf will travel approximately 100 miles on a charge making it ideal transportation for intra village travels. In addition to the environmental benefits, the Leaf is economical with very little maintenance costs and zero cost for gas, making it ideal for the Warm Hearth Foundation.

In recent years Warm Hearth Village has increased our focus on the environment thanks to the generosity of Foundation donors. Mr. Rusk’s generosity has allowed us to continue our environmental focus with the addition of the Nissan Leaf to our transportation program.

The Village Center

On March 20, 2013 the Warm Hearth Foundation celebrated the successful completion of the Keeping the Dream Alive Campaign. The dream became a reality with the opening of the Village Center. The grand opening marked the completion of a $1.5 million capital campaign that was successful thanks to the generous support of our donors.

The Village Center is a beautiful structure featuring timbers harvested from Warm Hearth Village and another local site. It provides a beautiful setting for arts and cultural programming for the neighbors at Warm Hearth as well as the local community. The opening of the fitness center provides opportunities for wellness and fitness that were previously unavailable on our campus.

The Village Center is a welcome addition to the community and will serve both neighbors and the local community for years to come.

Micah’s Soup for Seniors

Barbeque and Blue Grass

Warm Hearth Village offers subsidized housing to low income seniors, through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Although this housing is affordable, some of the residents’ incomes are so low they are forced to choose among basic needs such as food and prescription drugs.

In June 2012 we entered into a partnership with St. Michael Lutheran Church to help provide relief to these individuals through a program called Micah’s Soup for Seniors. The program began in September 2012 with a monthly food distribution to residents of Trolinger and New River House apartments.

The program provides nutritious, simple to prepare meals that include staple items such as peanut butter, crackers, soup, tuna, and oatmeal.

Each month, volunteers from St. Michael Lutheran Church, Virginia Tech and Radford University meet to prepare grocery bags and then deliver them to residents in their apartments. The program provides nutritional staples for our neighbors in need, as well as creating opportunities for residents to socialize with the volunteers who support this important program. Sixty-two percent of the residents are being served by the program each month.

Each summer the Warm Hearth Foundation looks forward to the opportunity to say thank you to all our supporters. This year we hosted Barbeque and Blue Grass at The Village Center to celebrate all our accomplishments during the past year.

Those accomplishments included a successful annual campaign for Neighbors in Need,

growth of the Benevolence Endowment, and the completion of our Keeping the Dream Alive Campaign for the Village Center.
