CATTLE SECTION
GENERAL NOTES CATTLE SECTIONConditions of Entry
1. Entries will be taken up to andincluding show day.2. All registered animals may enter in
all classes, but they must enter
their Breed Classes prior toInterbreed Classes.
3. All entries must be named or if notyet entered in their respective Herd
Registers must be identified by eartags.4. Irrespective of age, breed, class.5. All E.T. calves must be identified as
such on the entry form.6. Animals may be stalled on theFriday night prior to the show, but are
the owner'sresponsibility.
7. A Breed ring constitutes aminimum of two exhibitors and 10
head of cattle, otherwisestock will automatically be
8. Entered in the Other Breeds Ring.9. The Committee reserves the rightto alter amend or cancel any class up
to judging time on show day.10. The Warkworth A & P Show Society

11. Judging will be conducted under theRules & Regulations of the RoyalAgricultural Society of N.Z.12. A cow with calf/calves at foot willbe judged as one unit in all groupclasses.
LEGAL LIABILITY THE SOCIETY'SPOLICY DOES NOT COVER
COMPETITORS AND EXHIBITORSEach exhibitor must supervise andcontrol their animals at all times andshall be liable for any hazard created,
or accident,illness or damage causedby the action of themselves or theiranimals at the showgrounds.Exhibitors must comply with theappropriate Animal Legislation andHealth & Safety in Employment Act1992.No person is permitted in any
judging ring without expresspermission from the Head Steward of
that ring. Only persons directlyresponsible are permitted in the
marshalling area.
TUBERCULOSIS TESTING(thereare now two documents required, T.B.
Test document (appropriate for yourarea i.e movement control )is toaccompany the entry forms, and a T.B.transit document must accompany the
animal on show day.
For animals from herds which areunder movement restrictions imposedby an Official Directive or RestrictedPlace Notice issued by the AnimalHealth Board the following applies:
That no cattle from a movement
control herd be exhibited at A & PShows.
For animals from Declared MovementControl Areas All Show animals over the age of 90days are to be tested, and have a cleartest, within 60 days prior to beingmoved to the show.
For animals from C10 status herds inSurveillance areas (e.g Northland)
No test is required but a clearly datedtest allocation form or otherdocumentation from the Animal HealthBoard must be submitted that showsthat the herd is not overdue for awhole herd test.
For animals from all other herds and
areas -If the herd has a C3 status orbetter, no test is requiredPROVIDED the last whole herd
test was within 12 months priorto the show.If the whole herd test was notwithin 12 months of the show,
then show cattle over one yearold MUST have a clear testwithin the current show season.
If the herd has a status of 1 orC2, THEN show cattle over oneyear old MUST have a clear testwithin the current Show season.

Competition for Dairy and Beef sections
This competition was created to encourageyoung people to participate in showing cattle
This competition includes Northern DistrictA&P Shows from Kaitaia through to Franklin,
including the Auckland Easter Show.
RulesThis competition is run in theNorthern District only, but anycompetitor in New Zealand canenter.
Competitors aged 8-19 years areeligible to enter. The junior class is8-12 years (inclusive) while thesenior is 13-19 years (inclusive). Allages are as of October 1st of thecurrent show season.Entry is to be free to allcompetitors.The competitor may use cattle ofany age and the animal does nothave to be the property of the
handler.The competitor may only enter thebeef or dairy class, not both.To be eligible for the NorthernDistrict prize, the competitor mustcompete in three or more NorthernDistrict A&P Shows in the chosenclass for the current Show season.The final show of the season is atAuckland. Competitors are notrequired to compete at that show
but they must attend the prizegiving shortly thereafter otherwisewinners will forfeit their prize.The competitor may enter as many
shows as they wish, but their finalscore will be the average scorefrom all the shows they havecompeted in for the current season.In the event of a tie the competitor
with the highest number of firstplace wins then second place winsand so on will be the winner.If entries are low, competitors maybe paraded together, however eachclass will be judged separately.Prize money at show level is to beprovided by the show at $20 for 1stplace, $10 for 2ndand $5 for third.The highest-scoring NorthernDistrict competitors in each of the
four classes will receive $130 for 1st
place, $100 for 2nd, $75 for 3rdand$45 for 4th. Selwyn Driver and theNorthern District Council sponsor allprize money and the winner of eachclass will receive a medal awardedby the Royal Agricultural Society ofNew Zealand.Shows are to record the names ofall entrants regardless of placing.All placings are to be made to 6th
place.Points to be awarded as follows:

Judging GuidelinesPresentation of the competitor-The competitor is strongly advised
to wear a plain white shirt with dark pantsand clean, strong boots.
- No open footwear or gumbootsare permitted;
- If a hat is worn it must be worncorrectly;
- No logos or advertisingwhatsoever are to be present on anyclothing including hats. This includesstud/breed names and breed uniforms.
Presentation of the animal
- The animal itself is not judged,however general presentation is to betaken into consideration as the competitoris expected to have prepared the animal

for the ring;- The competitor should make sure
that the animal is washed and groomedwith hair appropriately trimmed andclipped and hooves clean and tidy;
- The halter should be clean and fitthe animal correctly. Rope or leatherhalters are allowed;
- For beef competitors if a showstick or cane is carried it is to be usedcorrectly.
Parading of the animal- The competitor should aim to
display the animal in such a manner thatthe judge gains a clear view of the animalat all times, and that the animal is seen to
advantage;-They should know the weaknesses
of the animal and not place the animal ina situation where these are going to bemade obvious;
- They should be able to walk intandem with the animal, without gettingtheir foot caught under the animals hoof;
- The competitor should be able tostop, move on and stand the animal upwhen requested;
- They should be aware of differentleading styles: dairy competitors leadfrom the front while beef lead from theshoulder
- Senior competitors may be askedto swap animals with other competitors.Juniors will not.
