1 / 4 Press Release June 8, 2016 Warehouse TERRADA to Hold Exhibitions on Renowned Ink Stones and Expression of Black Ink Warehouse TERRADA (Shinagawa, Tokyo / CEO: Yoshihisa Nakano) will hold exhibitions on renowned ink stones and expression of black ink from July 1 (Fri) until July 10, 2016 (Sun). PIGMENT, the art supply lab operated by Warehouse TERRADA, collects, displays and sells rare products such as 4,200 colors of pigment, 200 types of antique ink sticks, and ink stones ranging from common items to museum-grade items. At this exhibition, PIGMENT will display and sell extremely rare ink stones such as the “Four Treasures of the Study” (brush, ink, ink stone and paper) that have long been loved as a hobby for intellectuals. Works expressed in ink by artists will also be on display in T-Art Gallery. Please see below for details. Therearevarioustheoriesabouttheoriginoftheseinkstones.ThereareFenRiverChengniinkstonesmadebybakingmudfromthebedoftheFenRiverandKakuVillagestonesminedfromnearMt.Lingyan(LingyanStones)locatedinsuburbanareaofSuzhouCity.FenRiverChengniinkstonesaregenerallyyellowinappearancebecausetheyaremadeusingmudfromtheFenRiver,andtheyhaveaslightlymuddyodorwhenwet.KakuVillagestonesarefoundinsevencolors:green,yellow,red,white,purple,blueandvermilion.Theyarereferredtoasgreenbean,yellowflowerfishyellow(ayellowfishcommonlyeateninChina),redshrimp-headred(thecolorofashrimphead),fishandwhite(thewhiteofafish’sliveristhecolorofthedawnsky),rugosarosepurple(purplecolorofarosaceousflower)andcrab-shellblue(theblueofacrab’sshell).TheyaresharperthanSheinkstones,andsomepeoplepreferthis.
