Two Common Pricing Models

An upfront sum for the license to own the software and use it in perpetuity. This is the more traditional model and is most common with on-premise applications. Perpetual license fees for WMS software are generally determined on a per-user basis.

A monthly fee to use the software for a specific amount of time. Subscription pricing became popular with the advent of Software as a Service (SaaS). Monthly subscription fees for WMS software are determined either on a per-user basis or on a per-warehouse basis (with an unlimited number of users at each warehouse).

To create pricing ranges for this guide, we considered a “starter” buyer to be an organization with one warehouse and three users, a “mid-range buyer” to be one with three warehouses and five users and an “enterprise buyer” to be one with five warehouses and five users. Some warehouse management systems are priced on a per-warehouse basis. We’ve labeled these systems in the table and calculated pricing for them according to number of warehouses rather than users.
