WANT TO GIVE OUT $$ TO YOUTH-LED COMMUNITY PROJECTS? MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN IN DAVIE COUNTY? LEARN IMPORTANT SKILLS? APPLY for the 2016-2017 SURF BOARD! WHAT IS THE SURF BOARD? SURF (Students Understanding Real Futures) is an exciting opportunity for Davie County youth. In this project, youth-led groups can apply for money and assistance to create youth-directed projects in Davie County. What is really unique about the SURF Board is that youth make the decisions about which groups get money for their ideas. In prior years, the SURF Board granted funds to: DHS STEM Ambassadors – “Birthdays in a Box” to be distributed thru A Storehouse for Jesus Davie County 4-H – Clover Club – to purchase puppet show supplies for the club to provide shows for pre-school and elementary students Davie County 4-H – Wardrobe Warriors - to purchase stylish teen clothes that were donated to A Storehouse for Jesus to be distributed to teens in need Davie High Hunger Fighters – Stockings for School – to purchase school supplies to help replenish supplies for DHS students in need Davie High Odyssey of the Mind - registration fees for Odyssey World Finals competition. Cooleemee First Baptist Youth – Clothing closet and soup kitchen North Davie Middle School Beta Club - build a low ropes course Tri-M Music Honors Society – host a Battle of the Bands Fellowship of Christian Athletes – host a Praise Fest Funds and input to the YMCA to create a teen room and job training program. WHO CAN SERVE ON THE SURF BOARD?Young people (high school students) who live in Davie County and attend a school program.

WHAT’S THE TIME COMMITMENT?One regular weekday meeting per month from August to June, a few Saturday trainings, and a retreat in the summer. There will also be some independent work between meetings.
