5/6 Winter Sports Yesterday the majority of the grades 5&6 students (and staff) braved the wintery, wet and muddy weather and attended the Winter Sports Day (Soccer, Football & Netball). Congratulations to all who participated and represented Wangaratta West!!

Professional DevelopmentMrs Wigan and Mr Johnson attended a planning meeting with the local state government schools including the high school on Thursday to visit our newest school data and explore ways to foster continual school improvement.

Mrs Wigan was in Melbourne on Wednesday for another professional development day based on school leadership as part of a course run by Monash University at the Bastow Institute. She has come back with some great ideas for future initiatives.

Happy birthday to Mrs Currie who had a birthday on the weekend and to Mrs Elliott who turned 21 again yesterday!

Warm regards,Craig & Kristy

From the Chaplain’s Desk Bringing Up Great Kids Parenting Program ~ This will commence next Thursday, August 13 th in our

school library between 9.15am and 11.15am. We look forward to seeing those who have indicated their willingness to participate and have places for anyone who may still think they’d like to take part. This program uses ideas of mindfulness and reflection to support parents to review and enhance their interaction with their children. Parents will be provided with an understanding of children’s brain development, with a focus on their emotional development and reasoning abilities and reflect on how this may influence their parenting approach. Yu would be most welcome to join us in this non-threatening program.

Community Playgroup ~ Many joined us yesterday, despite the dismal weather, and we had a lovely time together. Our story was ‘Edwina The Emu’ by Rod Knowles and we made some pretty flash Edwina Ballerinas. Special thanks to Sue Simsen who took playgroup at very short notice last week.

Seasons For Growth ~ We have now had three sessions and this great little group is seeking comfort in the realisation that we have all had changes in our lives that have made us sad, but that, just like seasons, this doesn’t last forever.

Have a great weekend.

Kindest regards to all, Rose

ItalianSalute!PREPS: This term we are concentrating on learning how to count in Italian! Many games have been played already and we’ve only learnt 1 – 5! The children are excited to learn the next new number/s each week. We have also been beginning our classes with a short game where the children revise “Come stai?” (How are you?) and giving answers.Grade 1/2: Each week this term we have begun our classes revising our Salute (Greetings – Good morning, good evening/afternoon, Good bye, etc.). We do this in a “musical chairs” type game. We are learning how to say the seasons in Italian also. So far we’ve created our “L’inverno” (Winter) pages. I will teach the students a song about the seasons that will hopefully help to remember them.Grade 3/4’s: Quanti anni hai? Your child is telling me how old they are. We are going over this until we are completely confident with how to answer (it’s been a bit tricky when they ask me!). We are also working on our making up our own word search using any 20 words we have learnt this year. As we have started our Avanti program with this year level they have many new words to choose from. Next week we will swap word searches with our classmates and complete.Grade 5/6’s: The children are learning the names of various positions eg. Above, through, near, far, on, etc. This is incorporated into a game. We have also moved onto our latest comic. Many new words in this one! It focuses on classroom items mostly. They seem to be enjoying this one as it is about Giorgio not wanting to be at school! Hmmm…

Salute e grazie,Signorina Cardamone

Looking forward to next year ~ Leonie Arnold.

Wicked Wildcats play on court 7, Cool Crocs on court 8 and Gang Gangs on court 3, all games at 10.15am.
