DeSiGninG A ColleCtor’S SerieS® kit

Designing a Custom kit >Picking out a dream drumset is just that, a dream come true. Once you’ve decided to build it from scratch, there are a few key things to con-

sider. We’ve put together a short checklist to simplify things a bit. Visit www.dwdrums.com/kitbuilder to design a custom kit online.

1. Shell type:What style of music and particular sound needs to be achieved? Drummers that prefer a more organic, vintage sound might prefer Classics.

For Jazz and other musical settings where less resonance and darker tone are desired, there are DW Jazz Drums. If versatility and clarity are

preferred, Collector’s Series drums might be the optimal choice. DW now makes a shell type for every drummer; it’s just a matter of which

sound will work best for your particular situation.

2. Shell Configuration:Once the decision has been made about which specific shell type will be used, there are some specific shell configurations to consider. Both

Classics and Jazz Series drums have a very specific shell construction that shouldn’t necessarily be modified, but Collector’s drums can be

custom-configured in several ways. For example, X Shells and VLT (Vertical Low Timbre) produce a much lower fundamental than standard

Collector’s Series shells, and reinforcement hoops can provide a much more focused sound. Any shell type and configuration can also be

mixed and matched to create a personalized custom kit.

3. Finish type:DW Collector’s and Jazz Series drums are offered in a virtually limitless variety of Exotic, Graphics, Lacquer, Satin Oil and FinishPly finishes.

Exotics can be combined with a multitude of colored lacquer fades and bursts to create striking results. If touring a live performance is an

issue, then FinishPly and Lacquer generally prove to be more durable. If the drums will remain in a studio setting, a hand-rubbed Satin Oil

finish might be a choice. DW Classics kits are available in any FinishPly covering. No matter which finish is chosen, DW drums are designed

so that the finish will never affect the sound of the drums.

4. Drum hardware Color:Any of four distinct hardware colors may

be chosen to complement the look of any

DW Collector’s, Jazz or Classics Series set.

Offered in Chrome, Satin Chrome, Black

Chrome and 24-karat Gold, all are factory in-

stalled and durable enough for any applica-

tion. Check with your sales associate because

some components may only be available in

selected colors.

5. Add-ons and Accessories:In addition to the factory-installed options

The mics can be permanently drilled into the shell or mounted via non-drill AVCs (audio vent connectors) that utilize the existing vent hole. MAY Miking Systems feature the world’s most popular microphone models by the industry’s leading manufacturers. Internal miking provides added isolation for those who want to control their sound.

The all-new MAY IN/EX blend module is a two input, one output, high headroom, Class A microphone preamplifier designed by award-winning manufacturer PreSonus Audio. The module is designed to mix two snare microphones (one MAY internal and any external) together into one channel to achieve the ultimate snare tone for live performance and recording applications. The high-quality Class A preamps are designed to handle high SPLs delivering an open and tonally rich snare sound. Other features include microphone input gain on each channel, 48V phantom power on one input, mix control (blend), phase inversion, main output, headphone output and fast-acting analog VU meter. It’s an exciting new tool to help drummers combine the best tonal characteristics of both internal and external miking.
