Principal’s News Report Cards Students will receive their Semester Two report cards on Wednesday and we encourage parents to discuss the ratings awarded and comments given. A proactive strategy is to consider educational and personal goals for the new school year and to identify strategies to enable these to be realised (and ways to measure success). I was very impressed with individual levels of achievement for many of our students and commend all for their efforts and industry this year. Parents are invited to contact individual teachers for further conversations as to any further clarification required from any subject area. 2020 Subject Offerings Next year we will continue to offer our Year 9 and 10 students the opportunity to study VET subjects through iVET (as was offered in Semester 2 this year). Students will be offered Cert II in Active Volunteering in Year 9 (to commence this program), as well as Year 10s to undertake Cert I in Employment Pathways and Cert II in Active Volunteering (to complete the course currently being studied). We will also timetable Year 7-10 Chinese on the same line as Year 9/10 Outdoor Pursuits – this means that any student wishing to study LOTE in year 9 or 10 can do so with Mrs Ralph, who is a native Chinese speaking teacher. School Permission Forms At the beginning of next year we will give each student (and their parents) a revised Media Release Form whereby we will ask for permission to publicise student photos and permissions for any school related activity. We have sought parental permission for articles such as those being included in the local Bottle Tree Bulletin. We will also ask for parent acceptance of our voluntary Textbook Hire Scheme which provides students with resources including consumables used in school based secondary subjects being provided. Forms will be sent home early in Term One. Second Break During November we trialled having students be released on the 12.50pm bell and going directly to play. At 1.10pm students then returned to eat their lunch and were then settled and able to return to class for lessons 6 and 7. We have sought parent, staff and student feedback as to the benefits attached to this change of routine and everyone was invited to complete the survey that was administered through Survey Monkey. We had overwhelming response rates with the majority of all secondary students completing the survey. The common commentary given was that “lunch has always come before playtime and I do not like change”. Thank you to all respondents for your feedback- we will return to old and obviously well-accepted lunchtime practices for second break in 2020. However, it is always good to trial other practices and consider new options that may “value add” or enhance school operations. Student Free Days Our staff will return to school on Wednesday 22 January for a full program of professional development. Our school office will be attended from Monday 20 January for any new enrolments or other parental queries. Students will return for the commencement of their school year on Tuesday 28 January (after the Australia Day holiday on the Monday). Mandated Training Any person interested in undertaking any employment with our school in either a casual or contract capacity are required to complete a number of prescribed training – Asbestos Training, Student Protection Training and Mandatory All Staff Training. This training will take place on Thursday 23 rd January 2020. Please contact the school for further information (especially if seeking an active role in our school). Book Packs Student Book Packs for 2020 can be purchased through Warrego Office Choice in Roma. This can be done online at the following address https://www.booklists.com.au/warrego/?l=0 or in store. Alternatively parents can request a book list from the school office. Merry Christmas As we come to the end of a long and very full school year, I extend to all parents, staff and students a very enjoyable and festive holiday break. We extend our very best wishes to staff or students who are leaving us. We also wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday and we look forward to students (and staff) returning ready for the new school year. Community Cup Touch
On Sunday the Wallumbilla 10s and Wallumbilla 16s teams
played the final round the Community Cup.
‘Team Up’ – lessons for life and a lot of laughs
Every Tuesday, from 9am-11am, Wallumbilla’s Year 7 and 8
students have been participating in the PCYC Team Up
program being run for us by PCYC Coordinator, Sergeant Greg
Caletti and Queensland Police Crime Prevention Officer, Senior
Constable Dale Kenna.
The three-week program aims to teach the young people of our
community skills in communication, self-defence and leadership
to prepare us for the future. We have learned a lot about
patience, persistence, handling things that are out of our control
and most of all, about respect.
The PCYC Team Up program is very educational and it has
helped us know who we are and to get along with each other
better.

Year 5/6 Tallebudgera Camp
We recently went to Tallebudgera Beach School at the Gold
Coast. The point of the camp is to unlock your hero beneath.
The first day was all about the Yugumber culture and we also
did Mastermind, to be a step closer to unlocking the chest. The
second day was even more fun than the first day. We went
kayaking, learnt and visited David Fleay’s Wildlife Park and after
all that we walked 2.5 km home. The Wednesday was the most
exciting day. We went to DREAMWORLD!!! At Dreamworld we
all faced challenges, so many people didn’t want to go on rides
but Jaydon our Tallebudgera Beach School Mentor kept telling
us it was Warrior Day. On Thursday we had to finish Warrior
Day so we went boogy boarding, tobogganing and went on the
stingray. After that we had Guardian Day to find our pelican. Dr
Evil (Mr Hall) had stolen our pelican so we had to work as a
team to find him. After that to finish the day we had to unlock the
chest. We worked together to unlock the chest and inside the
chest was Chungarra shirts and wrist bands. We had an
amazing time away but we were glad to be home safe and
happy.

Community Helper Afternoon
On Thursday the 28th of November, students from our Prep and
Year1/2 class participated in a Community Helper Afternoon. It
was a great success, the children enjoyed themselves and had
the opportunity to interact and ask questions of our helpers. I
would like to extend a big thank you to all school staff who
assisted with the rotations, as well as our helpers’ who gave up
their time to come in and speak with the children: Emma Rogers
(Hospital), Justina Houston (Pharmacy & Hair Salon), Jason
Scott and Daniel Grainger (Council), Dale Kenna (Police), Mark
Foster, Tim McErlain and Dan York (SES and Rural Fire
Service), Tash Swan & Judy Cox (Office Staff), thank you also
to Ferg and Rohan from SES/RFS for some behind the scenes
