WELCOME BACK! Walker Wednesday News (WWN) is a weekly online school communique sent from the school office that assembles information from several different sources into the convenience of one document. Some other resources that may be helpful throughout the school year: www.walkerpto.com – Take a moment to “click” around this website that is full of great information and resources. www.d181.org – is the website for District 181. There are a multitude of resources available on this website. Also on the D181 website is the Community Backpack (located under “Resources” on the home page), where you will find approved community fliers. Fliers accepted for website posting must: originate from a non-profit agency or group, advertise events of interest to

students and take place in one of our communities or an adjoining village. Click here for the Daily School Checklist. PICTURE DAY! 9/22 – Grades K, 1, 2 9/23 – Grades 3, 4, 5 In Person Hybrid: Student pictures will be taken outside by our school photographer on the above dates. All pictures will be taken maintaining appropriate social distancing while the kids enjoy a welcomed mask break. Full Day Remote Students: We encourage parents of remote students to have your child’s picture taken on either day between 11:30am – 12:30pm outside while maintaining social distancing. Please go to the blacktop area and check in with the photographer. If you have special circumstances or need more assistance, please contact Jan Martin in the Walker office. (630.861.4601) Picture Orders: Attached is the order form from VanGogh. Click here to place your prepaid order. This year we are only accepting prepaid orders. Thankfully, they are predicting great weather on these dates!! WHEN YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT The procedure for reporting your child absent from school is different this year; do not call the school attendance line. Instead, anytime your child is absent from school, the parent should go to www.d181.org, scroll to the bottom of the page and complete the appropriate absence notification (either COVID or non-COVID related). We appreciate your help!

WALKER GARDEN The Walker Gardens’ Cleanup Day on Saturday, August 29th was a huge success. There was a great turnout of new and existing Walker families and Mrs. Karrow, a 4th grade teacher and leader of Eco Club. Thank you to everyone who helped plant new Illinois native and pollinator-friendly plants, pick up litter, and spread mulch and river rock in the Walker bee and butterfly / vegetable / fruit gardens. Tamelings Landscape Supply generously donated 14 yards of mulch and a ton of river rock to the project. Please come by the gardens to watch the monarch butterflies flying around, pick a ripe strawberry, snip a few herbs for your next meal and find inspiration to create a pollinator-friendly or vegetable garden in your backyard. Thank you to our Master Gardener Anne Marie Bodrozic and her family for their continued leadership in maintaining our gardens. OF SIGNIFICANCE Please be good neighbors in our community by keeping an eye on the Walker grounds. Our

raised beds have been vandalized twice this summer. After putting so much time and effort into maintaining them, it is disheartening to see them damaged. If you see any damage occurring, please call the Clarendon Hills Police Department 9-1-1. Thank you.

BOOK BAGS REMINDER: Please return all book bags and books! Thank you to the families who returned your child’s book bag to school in the spring. We are

still missing many book bags and books! If your child still has a bag or book at home, please return them to school ASAP so that all students can continue to use these materials throughout this school year. VISITORS If you come to Walker to pick up or drop off your child, or bring a forgotten item, please ring the bell outside the office. We will greet you at the door and assist you whenever possible. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitors are not being admitted to the building at this time. SECURLY See the attached document if you need assistance accessing the internet outside of school. LOST AND FOUND Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will place lost and found items outside the main entrance doors. They will be donated if not claimed within two days.

YOU SHOULD KNOW IMPORTANT COVID PROCEDURES There are two items we’d like to highlight for you. • Attendance Please use the links provided on the home page of the D181 website to report your child’s absence. • COVID You should be aware that if your child is home (or sent home) with COVID symptoms, all siblings must remain at home as well, per the District Health & Safety Guidelines (pertinent question and answer copied below): Q: IF A STUDENT IS SENT HOME SICK WITH SUSPECTED COVID-19 SYMPTOMS (E.G., RUNNY NOSE, FEVER, DIARRHEA, ETC.), MUST ALL THEIR SIBLINGS/HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS BE SENT HOME AS WELL AND QUARANTINED FOR 14 CALENDAR DAYS? Yes, if one of the household members is being evaluated for COVID-19, the rest of the household must be quarantined until an alternative diagnosis is made or a negative result received. If the sick student becomes a confirmed case (i.e., tests positive for COVID-19) or a probable case (i.e., has COVID-like symptoms and is epidemiologically linked to known case), the local health department (LHD) conducting contact tracing will place household contacts, including siblings, in quarantine for 14 calendar days. The health department also will provide guidance on how to safely quarantine and isolate within the household.

While we must keep oursocial distance, technology has made it easier than ever before to connect online. There is an old saying in thetheatre: the show must go on! And we intend to do just that while also connecting the theatre community atlarge.
