GET TO KNOW LAS VIGIAS The Las Vigias cluster is located in the municipality of Quilalí in the Department of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua. It is approximately 218 miles – about a five-hour drive – from the country’s capital of Managua. These communities have a population of 2,085, of which 856 are school-age children. Most homes are made from mud and dried grass. Most people work as day laborers, especially during the coffee harvest season, from November through January, which is the strongest economic activity in these communities.

DISCOVERING PROMISEYour church can be a part of God’s transforming work in the Las Vigias cluster. You’ll help improve the quality of education so that many children can learn to read and write and develop the skills necessary to become productive citizens. You’ll equip parents with knowledge and skills to generate more income and properly care for their children’s health and well-being. You’ll help train leaders to take ownership of their community’s development by finding effective solutions to their own problems. And you’ll encourage pastors to nurture the spiritual walk of children and to approach community development in a holistic way.

When you partner with Food for the Hungry (FH) in Nicaragua, you’ll inspire hope in the most vulnerable people in Las Vigias to overcome the barriers that hinder them from reaching their potential as God intends. In this cluster of communities, children don’t get adequate food and a good education. They don’t have access to basic school supplies, textbooks, desks or decent classrooms. Many are pressured to drop out of school to help earn money for their families. Lack of nutrition, clean water and good sanitation contribute to poor health.
