WALA: Quadrilaterals
Key vocabulary: Quadrilateral, four sides, equal, rhombus, square, parallelogram,
trapezium
What is a quadrilateral?
A quadrilateral is a shape with four
sides.
Quad = four
Lateral = sides
The lines indicate that the shape has equal sides.
A rectangle is a four sided shape where every angle is a
right angle.
The opposite dies a parallel and equal of length.
A rhombus is a four sided shape where all the sides have equal length.
The opposite sides are parallel and the opposite angles are also equal.
The opposite sides are parallel and equal of length .
The diagonals also meet at a right angle in
the middle.
A rhombus is sometimes called a diamond or a
rhomb.
A square has equal sides and every angle is a right angle.
The opposite sides are parallel.
A square can also be a rectangle (as a rectangle is a shape
where every angle is a right angle) and a rhombus (as a
rhombus has all sides an equal length).
Angles (a) are
the same and
angles (b) are
the same.
A parallelogram has four sides.
The opposite sides are parallel and
equal in length.
The opposite angles are also equal.
A trapezium has four sides.
One pair of opposite sides are parallel.
An isosceles trapezium has left and right sides of
equal length that join at the base and also have
equal angles.
How did you know which shape was which?
WALA: Lines of symmetry
Key vocabulary: symmetry
What is symmetry?
Something is symmetrical when it is the same on
both sides. A shape has symmetry if a central
dividing line (a mirror line) can be drawn on it, to
show that both sides of the shape are exactly the
same.
Find and draw lines of symmetry on these shapes (there may be more than one):
Find and draw lines of symmetry on these shapes (there may be more than one):
Which ones have more than one line of symmetry?
WALT: Complete a symmetric figure
Key vocabulary: symmetry, symmetric
Which was the hardest pattern to make symmetrical? Why?
The final lesson this week is to go onto TTRockstars and practise on all the
different game modes for about 30 minutes (or longer if you wish) and then
complete a Soundcheck.
