The Wärtsilä EnergoProFin is a propeller cap with fins, rotating together with the propeller, resulting in average fuel oil savings up to 5% and payback times of less than a year for seagoing vessels. Fuel prices have increased considerably over the last years, making propulsion efficiency even more important than before. The energy losses of a propeller are among other things related to flow phenomena around and behind the propeller boss. Installing the Wärtsilä EnergoProFin (WEPF) could increase the overall propulsion efficiency by up to 5 % with a payback time of less than one year. The return on investment period is relatively short thanks to the attractive price of the Wärtsilä EnergoProFin. Payback times of 3–14 months are achievable. Wärtsilä is continuously improving the energy efficiency of propulsion solutions. Our aim is to reduce the fuel consumption and the operational costs of seagoing vessels. We optimize our solutions to specific customer requirements, utilizing our extensive marine propulsion experience and state-of-the-art, modern techniques, such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). IMPROVED PROPULSIVE EFFICIENCY BY WEAKENING THE PROPELLER HUB VORTEXWeakening the propeller hub vortex behind the propeller decreases propeller resistance and manifests itself as increased thrust. The defl ection of the fl ow aft of the propeller by the optimized profi led fi ns reduces the propeller torque. In addition to the improved propulsive effi ciency, the EnergoProFin can also be applied to reduce propeller-induced noise and vibrations.

The EnergoProFin is made from the same material as the propeller (NiAlBr) and replaces the normal propeller boss cap. The EnergoProFin is easy to install; it can even be installed when the vessel is afl oat provided the vessel can be suffi ciently trimmed. Once the EnergoProFin is installed, the only required maintenance is polishing during regular cleaning intervals.

FOR ALL SHIP TYPES EQUIPPED WITH FIXED PITCH PROPELLERSThe Wärtsilä EnergoProFin is suitable for all new builds and existing vessels regardless of propeller make. The EnergoProFin is only applicable to vessels with fi xed pitch propellers.

SCOPE OF SUPPLYThe Wärtsilä EnergoProFin is designed as an integral part of the propeller. The installation of the EnergoProFin will not affect the manoeuvrability of the vessel. The EnergoProFin

will be delivered including all required mounting materials and tools. Mounting of the EnergoProFin is simple and can be performed by the shipyards. A clear installation manual will be provided with the order. If required, Wärtsilä

can provide skilled service engineers for local installation support.
