This has led to the school being appointed an additional classroom teacher enabling us to form an additional class from the start of Term 3. As mentioned in previous newsletters, it is now necessary to reorganise and restructure some classes from the start of Term Three. A positive approach by staff and families will make this transition as smooth as possible for the students. Where possible, students will remain with their existing teacher. A number of factors are taken into account when restructuring classes with the needs of the students being at the forefront. All students will be re-issued with up to date class information books outlining their classroom teacher, room, weekly overview and general class information in Week 9. New classes will also have a meeting in Week 10 in their new rooms to see who is in their class. Banking Please make sure that it is the parents and carers filling out the banking slips rather than the students. There have been some errors made. Also please double check that the correct money is placed in the bank book. GRIP Leadership Conference On Friday 20 th May, 6 students attended the GRIP leadership conference with Mrs MacDonald and Mrs McClellan. This was a great day that focused on practical ways for students to show leadership within a school setting. They learnt about making the most of leadership opportunities and how to develop a leadership plan. The day was held at Central Coast Leagues club and was attended by many other local schools. Students participated in team building activities, as well as ice breaker activities that encouraged them to move around and get to know students from other schools. They had to work together as a team to solve problems and some students were brave enough to get up on stage in front of a big audience and act out role plays, make up dance moves and answer tricky questions. Overall it was a great day that students thoroughly enjoyed. Debating Team Win! On Friday of last week, our year 6 debating team - Luke B, Lachlan B, Isabella and Charlotte had their first debate for the year. They were up against a talented team from Toukley Public School. The topic was "that the school holidays should be shortened to 8 weeks of the year". We were the affirmative team. Our articulate team did a fantastic job of arguing this topic. They presented some very good arguments and rebutted the other team's arguments expertly. We came away with a win for Wadalba. I look forward to another year of

impressive debates from this group.

Soccer On Tuesday 24

th May our Primary Soccer teams

competed in the Sydney North Knockout competition at Wadalba Sport Complex. We were lucky enough to have fantastic weather. The boys played against Chittaway Bay Public School and unfortunately we lost 2-1. Congratulations to Lachlan Bryant for a fantastic goal where he chipped it over the keepers head. The girls tried their best with only 2 players that actually play soccer on the weekends coming up against the formidable Warnervale Public School. Again unfortunately we lost our game. A special mention to our impressive goalies: Kane, Troy, Shae and Paige. We all played with excellent sportsmanship and enthusiasm. With our continued training we will come back next year better than ever. Thank you to the parents that came and supported us and for allowing their children to participate in such a great sport.

Pie Drive

Coming soon! Keep an eye out for the order form in your child’s bag.

Kinder Farm Excursion Kindergarten had a fabulous day at Oakvale Farm yesterday learning about lots of different farm creatures, getting up close and personal with reptiles and feeding baby animals. Today we will be recounting our day, describing some of the animals we saw, heard and felt and sharing in some creative writing. Thank you to our parent helpers who went well and truly above what was required. Excursions like this wouldn’t be possible without your support and assistance.

Our Motivated Learner Focus is:

Setting goals and working towards them Here are some ways you can help your child develop this skill.

Get the Idea Across Start the process by looking for ways that your child already uses goal-setting techniques. If you notice that your son has managed to save up his money to buy a video game, for example, discuss the steps he needed to take to get what he wanted. Talk to him about how good it feels to accomplish something that you've worked toward. Then, discuss how these same techniques can be used to meet other challenges. Start Small Help your child think of a fun goal she could achieve within a short time. Maybe she could finish a book she started or complete a craft project. Little goals are the best way to get kids moving toward big goals. Meeting a goal gives kids an incredible surge of energy. Let Them Choose As much as you might want your child to be awarded the Academic Achievement awards each year, it's best to let your kid decide what she wants to achieve. Then you can help them make a plan. Obviously, some goals require more input from you. If learning to figure skate is your kid's dream, you're going to have to help her set and achieve her targets. If parents find they're nagging or getting angry that their child isn't working hard enough to meet a goal, that's a signal they need to pull back. Be Alert to Possibilities If your child says, "I wish I could win the public speaking competition in my class," use it as an opportunity to assist him in creating a plan. Help them write down specific steps. Then check in with them from time to time to help keep them focused on their targets. Show Them How Adults have a much greater sense of what it takes to accomplish goals so include your child in your own goal-setting to show her how the process works. Say you want to create a garden. Get your child involved in everything from researching plants to turning the dirt. Adults know how to break a goal down into steps, and that's something kids need to learn. Provide a Reality Check Children often underestimate how hard it can be to meet a goal, and then they get frustrated and discouraged when they fall short. If your child decides he wants to play the guitar, for instance, be encouraging but realistic. Point out the challenges and the dedication it will require. The idea isn't to make the goal seem too daunting, but rather to share in the seriousness of the undertaking by helping plan it out. Applaud Effort As your child begins to set goals and work toward them, don't forget the compliments. Say something like, "I'm really impressed. When you care about something you really go after it!" When Kids Fall Short

So your child wanted to improve in spelling, but he got 50% right on the latest test. Now what? Try these steps.

Review the goal with your child. Maybe it was too vague or too ambitious.

Ask your child for suggestions. Children are more likely to follow through on their own ideas about what else they can do.

Help envision the benefits. Ask: "What do you think it will feel like to do better on the next test?"

Share your childhood frustrations. Your child might feel better when you tell him about your difficulties learning fractions.

Compliment him. Even if your child doesn't get the 100% he hoped for, make sure to praise him for trying ("I'm so proud of how hard you studied!").

Don't use threats or bribes. Offering a video game in exchange for an A, or a punishment for a D, won't help your child's follow-through in the long run.
