Committee DOC is responsible for incarceration of about 17,600 adult
felons with sentences longer than one year.
The majority of the DOC population is housed in 12 prisons
(16,499 offenders as of August 31, 2013)
DOC operates or contracts with 16 work release centers (679offenders as of August 31, 2013)
DOC contracts jail beds for community supervision violators
(457 offenders as of August 31, 2013)

Total -$7,390 -395The Legislature also authorized DOC to contract with local jurisdictions for jail beds.
For up to 300 medium or lower security beds statewide to the extent that it is at no net cost to DOC. The
contract daily rate shall not exceed $65 per offender including program and health care costs. DOC has issued acompetitive solicitation and is in the process of reviewing the submittals.
For short-term offenders (offenders with an earned release date of less than 120 days on his or her sentence at
the time the offender would otherwise be transferred to DOC). The daily contract rate shall not exceed $70 per
offender including medical costs. DOC is working on master contract language.
