WELCOME!We are so glad you chose to worship with us!

Here are a few things that may be helpful to know about our worship this morning:

Children at FaithWe welcome children as a part of our family in Christ; including the wiggles & giggles they bring. We offer a Pray Ground (in the back of the sanctuary) and Worship Bags to help children experience and participate in worship according to their needs. We trust families to work out the best option(s) for them and their child(ren) on a given day.

Offering Offerings are a generous expression of our faith that support the ministry of Faith Lutheran. If you feel called to share a financial gift there are three ways to do so: 1.) place cash or a check in the offering plate (envelopes are provided in the pews)2.) go to our website www.faithgoshen.com, online giving tab3.) text the word Give to (574) 212-0404, you’ll add a pymt. method one time and then simply text the amount you’d like to give. For example $20, simply text: 20. You can also text 25 weekly (or biweekly, monthly) if you’d like to set up a reoccurring gift.

Guests, we would love to keep in touch with you. If you would like us to reach out to you, please fill out a Communication Card located in the pews and place that in the offering plate.

Communion All are welcome to come and receive the gifts of God’s grace as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Those who do not wish to receive communion are welcome to come forward for a blessing from the pastor.

Fellowship You are welcome to join us in the fellowship hall following worship for coffee and refreshments.

GuestsWe are glad you are worshipping with us this morning, please stop by our Welcome Center to pick up a Faith Bag! It is our gift to you.

Worship Servers What are they? What do they do?

As a community when we gather for worship we do so to join our voices and ourselves together to give glory to God for what God has lovingly blessed us with. Leadership within the worship service is the work of all those who gathered to worship not just the pastors. Every single person plays a role; whether that is participating from your pew in song or communal responses or reading scripture, or lighting candles, or welcoming others to worship, or baking the bread. Here at Faith we have a number of specialized roles that you can do to help us worship God, we call them Worship Servers.

Please take a moment to read through the summary of each role and consider if you would be willing to try one of these specialize roles. If you would like to be a Worship Server please let Dena or one of the pastors know. We will then add you to the regular rotation. We will let you know when you have been assigned to serve and remind you the week of.

There are trainings held at 10 am in the sanctuary: today, August 11, for those helping within the Traditional Worship service and August 18 & 25 for those helping within the Contemporary Worship service. These trainings are for those new to being a Worship Server as well as those who are seasoned veterans as Worship Servers. As we have come together into one location, how our Worship Servers help with worship has changed. If you are unable to make one of these trainings please let us know and we will schedule a time to train you.

Acolyte: Acolytes are typically youth but they doesn’t have to be. Acolytes light the candles, help with offering and communion, and extinguish the candles. We prefer that Acolytes be at least in elementary school to acolyte alone. But will work with younger youth if they show interest.

Altar Guild: Altar Guild sets up communion before worship and cleans up communion after worship. They are also responsible for changing banners and paraments based on the liturgical season. Additionally they set up for baptisms and other special services.

AV: The AV (Audio Visual) person works individually or on a team. They are responsible for running the sound system as well as the commuter for the screens. If you are interested in this role, we will set up a separate training for you as this training is better to do one-on-one.

Page 4: W TO TRADITIONAL WORSHIP...Cantors work with the Traditional Worship musician to practice prior to worship. Greeters: Greeters welcome members and guests at the main doors as they

Bread Baker: Bread Bakers make the communion bread on their assigned Sundays. We have a simple communion bread recipe for you to follow. But we are also aware that sometimes you may need purchase a loaf of bread because of what’s going on in your life, we have recommendations of types of bread if you need to purchase bread.

Cantor: Cantors lead the congregation in singing the Kyrie, Hymn of Praise, and the Psalm seasonally. Cantors work with the Traditional Worship musician to practice prior to worship.

Greeters: Greeters welcome members and guests at the main doors as they arrive to worship. We encourage Greeters to open doors and verbally welcome people to worship. If there is a visitor we ask that Greeters show/tell our guests about Faith and our worship service.

Lector: Lectors read the assigned scripture readings during worship. Typically the scripture passage is shared prior to Sunday worship so you have time to practice. Lectors may be asked to help with communion if there is no acolyte or we need extra help.

Worship Assistant: Worship Assistants assist the pastors with the prayers and communion. They robe for worship and sit up-front with the pastors.

Ushers: Ushers hand out bulletins, collect the offering, and direct people forward for communion. We encourage them to greet people as they come into worship and help direct visitors to seats, explaining a bit about our worship service.

If you have questions please reach out to either Pastor John or myself.

Blessings+

Pastor Jes

WELCOME

+OPENING HYMN+ “Through the Night of Doubt and Sorrow” Red Hymnal 327

CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

It is in our confession where we realize our desire for God and our hope for God’s mercy. It is in admitting the truth of our lives that we take the first step toward wholeness and healing, of ourselves and our world. So let us make our confession, first in silent prayer.

Holy God,we come before you with humility, For we do not live as we ought. We do not love you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We do not love our neighbor as ourselves. So we pray that you will change our hearts and minds: The fear that stifles us, The prejudice that blinds us, The ignorance that hobbles us, The doubt that plagues us. Show us again how to love others the way you love us, This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Friends, hear this Good News: the love of God is beyond measure, and you areincluded in that love. Know that you are forgiven and thus freed to love and serve in the name of the Father, and the +Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

+Greeting+ The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.

+APOSTLE’S CREED+ With the whole church, let us confess our faith. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

+SANCTUS+

+WORDS OF INSTITUTION+ In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: “Take and eat; this is my body given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks and gave it for all to drink, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

+LORD’S PRAYER+ Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us:Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
