Activity 1
Exchange of Information
VYDEHI SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE
Fancy dress Competition was conducted for UKG students on the theme of “Harvest Festival Costumes”. Children depicted traditional dressing styles of a particular region of India and also presented a talk on what type of Harvest Festival is celebrated in that region.

Activity 3 – Cultural Art Form: Fancy Dress Competition

Folk dance Competition was organized for the students of Grade 1. Children chose a particular region of India and performed the folk dance native to that region. Melodious tunes, rustic voices, perfect rhythm and beat transformed the place into ethnic India

Students of UKG and Grade 3 performed special assembly in which various cultural art forms like dance, song and skit were performed

Students of UKG performed on the harvest festival of Sankranthi which in itself has several forms. This festival is celebrated by various names and in different styles in the different parts of the country. UKG students explained the different forms of the festival through their songs, skits, dances, etc.

Activity 6 – Cultural Art Form: Special Assembly

Children performed with such panache and style that left the audience mesmerized and asking for more

Grade 3 children had Special Assembly on the topic of “Comparative study of Harvest Festivals” in which they performed songs, dances and skit on the various Harvest Festivals. They captured the festive mood of the festival in all its glory. A Power Point Presentation on the Harvest Festivals of Sri Lanka was also displayed during the course of the program.

True learning happens only with practical experience. The children of V, VI, VII and VIII made a documentary on Harvesting procedures. They interacted with the farmers, explored the fields, understood the process of harvesting, and tried their hands with the various harvesting procedures

Students enquired if the farmers used chemicals during cultivation for which the farmers answered that they used pesticides as a precautionary measure. When the students asked if the crop was ready for harvest, the farmers replied in the negative and said that they decide the readiness of the crop by its height and when the grains come easily out of the husk. Children also discussed about the Harvest Festivals celebrated by the farmers.

For any concept to be clearly understood, it is important to have practical experience. With the intention of making the children feel the mood of the Harvest festivals, different competitions were organized. Kites, which play a major role in the Harvest festivals was chosen as the first topic. Kite decoration competition was held for the students of Grades III & IV where the children had to decorate the kites in an innovative and creative way.

Children were extremely excited to decorate the kites with different colours. They drew with sketches, cut and pasted different types of decorative papers, beads, glitters, etc. This activity rejuvenated the enthusiasm of the students towards learning something new and children thoroughly enjoyed this unique activity.

Harvest Festivals portray the culture and heritage of India in its truest form. In order to make all aware of the significance of Harvest Festivals, students of Grade 2 organized an exhibition on the topic.

Students dressed up in traditional attires native to a particular region. With the help of charts, models and other related exhibits, they explained about the Harvest Festival celebrated in that region along with the significance of the Festival. They spoke about the kind of crops grown in that region and the steps involved in the cultivation of the crop
Activity 11 – Painting Competition

Students not only painted the pictures but also included detailed information about the method of celebration of the Festival and also its significance.

Pots form an integral part of Harvest Festivals. Pots are used to cook rice and other grains and hold an important place in the households of ethnic India. Decorating the pots is one of the customs followed during the celebration of the Harvest Festivals in India. Keeping this in mind, Pot Decoration competition was held for the class VII. The students were thrilled to show their innovation and creativity by decorating the earthen pots

Dressing up is very essential and looked forward part of every Harvest Festival ceremony. Students of Grade 8 tried their hands at making their personal jewellery in the Jewellery Making competition. They chose different types of materials to make the neckpiece with matching earrings.

Students got an opportunity to explore Sri Lankan Festivals, their rituals, customs and their way of celebration of Harvest Festivals. Also, students got an opportunity to develop a good relationship with the Sri Lankan children and share lots of other information as well.
