4 teams. Each team will get a set of 20 cards.

10 in Vietnamese words and 10 in their English translation.

The team that matches the most cards in 3 minutes will win!

Tet Trung Thu


khi nao, o dau, va tai sao (when, where, and why)

Dates back about 15,000-20,000 yearsIt originated in China.

It was later spread to Korea and Vietnam. It was created after the harvest season, so

that parents could make up for lost time. The holiday was centered around

children.


When does it occur??

• It occurs on the fifteenth day of the eighth month according to the Lunar calendar.

• This is either mid September or early October in the American calendar.

• This year Tet Trung thu was on September 30,2o12.


•The traditional dragon dance is meant to spread good health and wealth.

Traditions of Tet Trung Thu


Banh Trung • Moon Cake : • It is filled with lotus seed or bean

paste with or without various nuts, dried candied fruits (mứt), salty yolks, and other fillings such as sausage, chicken or pork.

• The small preserved egg represents the moon.

• It is rich tasting and has a chewy texture.

• It is cut into small portions and shared amongst friends and family.

• As they gaze at the moon, stories are exchanged over moon cakes and tea.


Banh Trung • It is custom to exchange

boxes of banh trung thu as gifts.

• Each cake is a treasured gift during the holiday.


Den long

“Lantern “ “Đèn kéo quân” which spins

around when a candle is placed inside, symbolizing the seasonal spinning of the earth around the sun.

During the night of the festival, children carry lanterns and parade around the streets.

The past tradition was to make the lanterns, but it later became inexpensive so it was just bought at local stores and vendors for children.
