The best summary of Citizen Abuzer would be to say that the novel depicts, with acrid humour, the unbearable conditions following the military coup of 12 September 1980. This type of narration scorns repression and torture on the one hand while reviving the feeling of resistance on the other.

To illustrate:

“The General turned to another prison guard: ‘What is the status of the prisoners here?’ The prison guard wasn’t really able to understand the question. He wanted to say something, anything but he could only falter and stutter. The General then changed the way he askeed the ques-tion. ‘Look, son’ he said, ‘what I mean is; are the prisoners here in normal prisoners?’ This time the soldier, with all the enthusiasm of actually having understood the ques-tion, shouted at the top of his lungs. ‘No sir, general sir.’ ‘Well then what kind of prisoners are they?’ ‘Abnormal prisoners sir, general sir.’ (…) ‘Then how do we treat them then?’ ‘Abnormally sir, general sir’.”

Armenian forced migration which started in eastern cities is getting about. The people of Kayalık hear the news from Kulağı Delik Musa (Big Ears Musa). It is a madness that the Ottoman gives up with the war and strives against the Armenians. After all, these lands are their own homeland.

In the meantime, what has been lived on the migration paths frightens Chief Blind Yusuf. He does not even think about what will happen to the teenage girls. He does not stand idle by the catas-trophe which those people, as he knows as his brothers and sisters, has been through. He gathers the villagers and declares that he will not send Armenian girls to the migration but hide them.

During a period in which the World War I turned the country into a hell, in which there was almost no single person who did not sleep hungry, perhaps, the life struggle of those people in a small village, bread battle and painful tragedy of girls were being lived in other places name of which we do not know.

Esme is the second volume of the series.

What in actual fact was ‘68? A prank of history or the crux of the conflicts directing history? A thunderbolt flashing in the cloudless sky or the flashing of the sparks among the ash? Was it only a “youth rebellion” or was it, at the same time, an uprising of the peasants fighting against imperialism, of the workers shaking capitalism from its collar? Was Turkey’s ‘68, “an imitation of the movements in the world” or was it a product of the coun-try’s own historical dynamics? Occupations of the lands and factories, the 15-16 June events… The primary char-acteristics of the struggle for a democratic university and the anti-imperialist resistance, the events, the people, the affiliations… From universities to mountains, from the ‘Idea Societies’ to guerrillas… Deniz, Yusuf, Hüseyin, Mahir, Ibrahim, Sinan; all the young revolutionaries of the time... With the testimonials of those that have lived through all the thunder, the joy, the excitement and the anguish of the period… The ’68 of the revolutionist...

Nâzım’s People in Bursa

Nâzım Hikmet who lived for 13 years of his lifetime in jails was a prisoner in Bursa for 11 years. He produced his most favorite works, chiefly Humane Landscapes from My Country, Poems of 9-10 O’Clock written for Piraye, in this city nearby Uludağ.

As seen in this study conducted in hundreds of places with hundreds of witnesses in Bursa, in the WW2 period during which the one-party-state regime was in power in our country, Nâzım Hikmet has changed the worlds of thought of people who were imprisoned for a variety of reasons. He transformed the jail into an institute and taught people how to look into life from a different per-spective.

It is possible to see the footprints of Nâzım and those who visited him in thermal springs, hills, streets and houses in Bursa.

His Life, Poetry, Art and Works

In his book that is the product of an enduring study spanning long years, Asım Bezirci deals with Nâzım Hikmet as a poet as well as his life and works. The author presents the bond between Nâzım’s worldview and art, and the developmental phases of his poetry. These are then complemented by an inventory of Nâzım’s works and of the books and articles written about Nâzım.

One can say that this book is the richest study on Nâzım Hikmet. Atilla Özkırımlı has made the following evaluation in relation to this research on Nâzım Hikmet: “Bezirci’s work is the only well-coordinated and compact study in its kind.” Hasan Izzettin Dinamo’s has said; “Each book, each article that one looks for on Nâzım can be found in this treasure.”

Beginning right from the works of his youth, Nâzım Hikmet has proved that not only is he a great poet but a competent art theorist and aesthetician in terms of his theoretical approach and thoughts both in relation to the essence, the general principality, the structure, the functions and genres of art and in relation to the development of art and its characteristics from a class perspective as well as a national and universal one.

The essays by Nâzım Hikmet, embracing a very exten-sive field, have been selected with a very meticulous study and arranged according to a logical sequence.

Prominent Themes in Nâzım Hikmet’s Poetry

In this book prepared as a tribute to Nâzım Hikmet’s 100th birthday; the prominent themes in his poetry have been studied; and the fact that he is actually the poet of the working class has been clearly demonstrated once again. By naming socialism in many of his poems, Nâzım Hikmet wants to share the happiness and joy that the socialist way of life yields in our day as well as what it shall bring forth in the future. With the belief he puts forward in his poems that the happy future for humanity and the world will be a product of labour’s power and with the confidence he displays in the “creating and produc-ing working class”, he is not only the poet of the working class but also a “world poet” with his boundless love that embraces all of humanity.

There is no much to tell: This book is published to shed light on how and why Fazıl Say’s work, Metin Altıok, was castrated.

In the first part, you will find two articles from Can Dündar who is the closest witness of this censor executed in an unfettered way in Istanbul Open Air Theatre in the evening on July 3, 2003, the articles from Zeynep Oral and Ali Sirmen who sensitively discuss the matter after the case as well as an interview by Derya Sazak with Fazıl Say to enlighten the censorship on his musical piece.

The facsimile of the program booklet released for free to the audience of 5,000 in the Open Air Theatre in the evening on July 3, 2003 takes place in the second part. It was of course unknown that the final piece of Fazıl Say’s work would have been castrated while this booklet had been prepared by the poet’s daughter and close friends.

What has changed from that day to today? Our pub-lishing house presents this very documentary book to the reader in 2008 which the hundredth anniversary of the abolishment of censorship.

A Fairytales Anthology for Adults

In Fairytales and Gender, Melek Özlem Sezer who analyzes the ideological background of fairytales and questions how the inputs that we have received when we were children have an impact on our grown-up lives tells about the fairytales which makes our lives more dif-ficult by means of unconscious games. With Masal Masal Matitas, a twelve year-old study, she shares fairytales which enrich our lives. She shows the fact that fairytales present a richness not only by means of pleasures spe-cific to their genre or fictious and linguistic opportunities but also sometimes through their livelihood, some-times through its philosophical sophistication and most importantly through their tested life experience having been transferred from generation to generation. She chases the mind which has never lost its passion and the passion which has never given up on its mind.

The 6000 - year old history of women with poetry in Anatolia.

Firstly the woman was blessed. With the immense abdo-men and infinite breasts sculptures. Kybele symbolized profligacy and permanence of life; Demeter represented the fertility; Ishtar symbolized abundance. The Televüt Turks wrote folk lyrics for the May Mother and the Nartlar Satana mother. It is perhaps for this reason why the region we live in has been called Anatolia (“Ana” means “mother” in Turkish language). Then, her life changed and the woman was humiliated. In the holly books of monotheistic religion, the first woman who was created from rubbish and remain-der instead of pure matter so that she would be a wife for Adam; she was called as Lilith meaning devil and was never mentioned since she claimed equality with Adam. Anatolia has been witnessing the tragic life of women for centuries.

The aim of this study of 20 year effort is to present poetic evidence to the women’s lives, variously evolved from the initial history of mankind until now in the geography from Aegean to Mesopotamia. So as to illuminate the social rela-tionships, value judgments, the place of woman in society and women’s lives in the terms of the poems written…so as to make a little contribution to make a good life where women are not exploited anymore as both race and laborer.

You have always fallen into sleep soundly with fairytales. But one day, you know that it is time to ask questions:

Why does not terrify us that Snow White who is very dead is kissed? How could possibly a simple kiss dislodge the apple from her throat? Or, is it another shock what is implied?

What is the meaning of Hansel and Gretel’s adventures starting with their parents abandoning them in the forest due to poverty and passing through housebreaking, cannibalism, homicide and theft?

The only poisonous side of the apple being the red side… Karen whose feet were amputated just because she liked red shoes… Red Riding Hood… What is ‘red’ sign for?

How do such codes within tales influence our lives when we grow up?

You will be shocked by the thing you always know.

Istanbul is an outdoor museum. Each of the monu-ments of different periods and cultures has had a myth. In addition to these myths, some buildings hide stories about their historical periods. These myths originat-ed from the walled-city have developed and changed along with Istanbul. The population rising in parallel with the constantly growing structure of the city keeps the Istanbulite unaware of the identity of most religious and civil buildings and monuments which have been the sym-bols of city. The project of the Monuments of Istanbul with Their Stories stemmed from the need for introduction of buildings and monuments which take a remarkable place in the cultural structure of Istanbul to today’s genera-tions. It also aims to put the myths of these structures and monuments in writing, to help the Istanbulite inter-nalize the culture they live in and transfer these myths in written documents to the next generations.

A church story emerging from the obligation of a Byzantine princess to be a bride for Mongols and the exten-sion of building Süleymaniye becoming an issue are good stories which change both Istanbuliets and tourists’ views on the city. The monuments of Istanbul with their stories is a book written by a qualified storyteller, Adnan Özyalçıner, and poet Sennur Sezer. Their elaborative and poetic narration will refresh the stories and myths of Istanbul monuments.

As you will see when you read the book, it is a product of a long-term study and accumulation of knowledge. When the subject-matter is religion, not to say, Islam, it is not easy to undertake such area of study at length, do a multidimensional research in a field in which dif-ferent standpoint and extremes have run pillar to post. So to speak, to what extent one can move forward in minefield…

It took my years to extract the important aspects of the Islamist currents with origins in Turkey which pervaded a largely expansive area and influenced hun-dreds of people at any age due to at least a 50-year old history in Europe. When I entered into the field and started uncovering, I encountered a development which I had never expected. People were telling one by one what happened, what they had been through materially and morally; they did not hesitate to provide knowledge, verbal or in written, and documents. What was not done in the name of religion? I wish happy and sunny days for those, whether their names take place in the narratives and interviews of the work, who contributed to the com-ing this document to light.

Socio-politics of Football in Turkey and the UK

“Lost by Default!” by Dağhan Irak, explores the reac-tions of football fans in Turkey to the social, political and football related events onwards the 1970s. Introducing the events that effect the public life and search for their repercussions in football fan groups, the book takes England, where football was born as a working-class game, as a reference point on how football fans react on the “hyper-commodification” process of football in four decades.

The commodification of football took a new turn with the television broadcasts and the expansion of football to a wider public in the 1970s and finally it reached a climax of “hyper-commodification” with the neo-liberal economic tendencies of the post-Cold War 1990s. The hyper-commodification of football rendered the game economically unaffordable for most traditional football fans of lower classes. These fans faced a confusion between resistance and disillusionment. The lack of a distinctive fan identity in Turkey aggravated this confu-sion.

Can The Cause Of Scarcity Be Remedy Against Scarcity?

This study aims to demonstrate how and why com-modification of water resources represents a common interest for capitalist class in general (many capitals!). Indeed, today without any single exception entire capitalist class who use water in their production processes prefer to buy water from market despite they pay higher prices instead of using water provided by States in return for minimal contributions. This automatically leads a misper-ception that capitalists were doing something contradic-tory to their class interests. Study intends to clarify capital accumulation via exploitation of both labour and nature by using opportunities provided by Marx’ labour-value theory in general and abstract labour theory in particular. Moreover commodification itself has been recommended as a remedy against water scarcity. Contrary to this rec-ommendation this book demonstrates the differences between the production of use values (qualifications) and exchange values (quantities) and argues that commodi-fication can not be remedy against scarcity while it is the most basic cause of scarcity. Because when any product of labour becomes commodity it will be subject to competi-tion and over production automatically. Like that, inclusion of water resources in market relations will increase the exploitation of water resources much more than ever.

A Letter to the Next ResistanceSome of you may heard about the biggest popular movement that this land has ever seen, under

the names such as “Gezi Park Resistance”, “Taksim Protests”, or “2013 protests in Turkey” as Wikipedia calls it. The June Resistance, as some name it, has spread over the country, and has shown a unique form of resistance by responding the police shooting people in the head with interesting modes of civil disobedience such as standing people, the cruelty of the officers teargasing every living creature with the cheer of firework, the incredible state violence with a genius sense of humor. It soon attracted the attention of international public opinion, and greeted other popular movements all around the world, especially its Brazilian counterpart which took place soon after the Gezi Park Resistance.

The June Resistance has already taken its place and opened its unique page in the history of the uprisings of the oppressed in Turkey, following the ’68 Protests, the 15-16 June Resistance in 1970, the Great March of the Miners, the 1989 Spring Protests, etc… All of which tell that nothing will be the same as it used to be… This implication can be found in its one of the core slogans: “This is only the beginning, continue to struggle!” This say of the people declares that they intend not to let the future slide. And this say is what the people leave to the future, as well. However, the discourse of the resistance which has been inclined not to see itself limited to itself from its very beginning also presages that the future has already started being written. The most valuable aspect of the June Resistance is the fact that it always attributes being a beginning to itself.

Sıcak Haziran is a book in which you can find all aspects of this popular movement, from the resistance on streets to the forums which has been taken place afterwards, from the effec-tive use of social and alternative media to power-hungry mainstream media… You will find a number of interviews with the members of Taksim Solidarity, football fan clubs, chiefly Beşiktaş Çarşı as well as writers, actors and actresses, artists who have become prominent figures dur-ing the resistance. Young women standing in the forefront, LGBTs, Anti-capitalist Muslims also take place with the strength and colorfulness which they contribute to the movement. On the last pages, there is an album composed of photos showing the hottest moments and massive-ness of the resistance as well as the wall writings, the products of “unbalanced intelligence” as opposed to the violent discourse of the government and the Prime Minister.

Hegemony, Status Quo, Resistance

Capitalism uses the media to establish its hegemony and to mend the cracks which its crises and contradictions cause. In this book we have aimed to look at the relationship between media and power. All the contributors discuss various issues, but they do so from a common point of departure: that the media and power relationship must be understood as key organs within the capitalist system. Media is percevied by an average person to be means of getting information. Also we are avare of the fact that media and power relationship becoming important factor. In capitalist countries, media is in the control of capitalist powers, and information conveys more of a desired virtuality than reality itself.

“Turkey did not have a regulatory framework governing media content until the mid 1990s, owing to the domination of the state in all sectors of the economy, including the media”(Sözer & Kurban 2012, 17). After 1990s as in some other countries, the media are predominantly owned and controlled either by large business groups or the state who dominate economic and political power in Turkey. Turkey’s government is improperly using its leverage over media to limit public debate about government actions and punish journalists and media owners who dispute gov-ernment claims, deepening the country’s political and social polarization. Turkish government’s actions to suppress freedom of speech. In Turkey, citizens now have the option to go online and read viable news websites and social media to see what the print newspapers, TVs aren’t reporting.

This study aims to analyse “media and power” in Turkey. Savaş Çoban, Esra Ercan Bilgiç, Mustafa Sönmez, Ceren Sözeri, Semra Somersan, Ertuğrul Mavioğlu, Hüseyin Aykol, Bedri Adanır, Ragıp Duran, Barış İnce, İsmail Saymaz, , Fatih Polat and Esra Arsan write about the media and power relationship in Turkey and analyze it from different point of views.

The fundamentals and how it works

The story of evolution has been told many times, from different angles, from different authors, in their different books. However, all of these books assumed the readers to know how evolution works and what its mechanisms are. The truth is, not too many people know what kind of mechanisms evolution have and how they work. What is natural selection? How does genetic drift work? How does mutations introduce new variations? Are there any other selection mechanisms than natural and sexual selec-tions? Almost all of these questions were left unanswered. Till now... In this book, Çağrı Mert Bakırcı takes you to a journey and tells you the story of evolution, how it works and what its mechanisms are. While doing so, he gives you real-world example and uses a simple language, so that every individual can see the power of evolutionary biology in their lives. If you are interested in biology but do not know where the begin learning it, or if you would like to improve your beginner-level knowledge on evolution, this book is the right one to start with. The author is the leader and founder of Tree of Evolution movement, which has about 150.000 followers on the Internet and largest evolutionary biology archive in Turkish.

This analysis was a need because of the fact that dogmas, prejudices and superstitions which find their roots in capitalist exploitation relations, which are triggered by the need to control over markets, and which are backed up by bourgeois ideology has a special place in dominant class policies in almost all capitalist countries. The increasing pursuance of gov-ernment-state policies in the direction of the adjust-ment of social relations and life in Turkey to religious “requirements” makes this need more important. This book analyzes religion and Islam, and particularly the community of Fethullah Gülen and its relationship with capitalism.

Dersim is a well-known Kurdish province with its upris-ings. The tradition of denial and violence policy not only tried to restrain the people of Dersim through banishment operations and exiles but also tended to deprive them of their past, origins, culture, traditions and everything that they would assign to the future. Undoubtedly, what has been lived in Dersim is not far different from what has been lived in other Kurdish cities. On the other hand, Dersim has a very unique place in this territory full of pain.

In his book, Faik Bulut focuses on the past of Dersim by referring to the Ottoman and Russian documents as well as parliamentary minutes, documents from the gen-eral staff and other reports prepared by the officials in the region. In addition to the written documents, he enriches his work with the narratives of the first degree witnesses as an indispensable part of investigative journalism. You will find new documents which have recently come to the light in this edition of the book the first two editions of which were published in 1991.

“I am a stone!”, said a father, “I didn’t have heart to even let my children’s hands touch the earth. One day, I lost them both. If I can handle it, then I am a stone!”

This war has been told by politicians or their parents until today. Now, the children of the victims of unsolved murders, the children of the thousands of families who were forced to evacuate their villages, the children of Kurds thousands of whom are in prison, the children of the gueril-las who lost their lives on mountains and their brother, that is, the third generation of this war begins to speak. As they tell their stories, they show us how the Kurdish question is many times more than the numbers that we have calcu-lated so far and how apparent indeed the consequences of this war which is an incalculable reality. As they tell what they have been through, even they could not believe what they have lived: “Is it really me who lived all these.” And yes, unfortunately, they have lived them all…

Ahmet Say tells us the story of a swindler merchant using the traditional introductory rhyme language of our tales. One of the incredible aspects of this narrative that is as real as the events of our day and as fantastic as a fairy tale is the fact that the protagonist is a cat. Yet another fantastic element is how the cat is able to steal by abiding the rules of commerce and how the laws are at a loss because of this. This acrid humorous story makes the reader question such concepts and institutions as trade, the market and competition.

Mineworkers’ Lives Inside Mines

We present you two works of a labor historian, researcher and author, Ahmet Naim. Through a mine-worker character, Ethem (Yemelek), Forty Five Years Under the Ground: Memories of a Mineworker brings into the present painful changes experienced by the people in Zonguldak who were forcefully made into minework-ers by the “obligation” law from 1886 to 1931 as well as traditions of mining, workers killed in these mines for the sake of accumulation of capital, legends, women mineworkers, experiences peculiar to working in mines and other values “trapped in the wreckage”. In A Sip of Breath: Mineworkers Lives Inside Mines, on the other hand, Ahmet Naim and his friends are within the mines. While lamps of their guides, Ethem Çavul and Ahmet (Çaproğlu), lighten the “underground city”, Ahmet Naim’s pen takes notes on each step of the way.

In the foreword to Whom They Call Bektashi, the great master of folklore, Pertev Naili Boratav states that the Bektashi of the folk anecdotes is a liberated human being who is unable to endure the formalist and imitator attitude of Shariat regarding God’s commands. In addi-tion, Boratav emphasises how a human being speaking to God without any hesitations or any fear dates back a long time in our tradition of thought and literature. Many short stories from which lessons can be drawn by those mixing religion with worldly affairs have been told once again by Metin Eloğlu and Oğuz Tansel in Whom They Call Bektashi. Abidin Dino, on the other hand, has illustrated these stories with his designs. In this book, you will come to know a wise man of the people with the interpretation of the masters and certainly with a smile on your face.

“A Bektashi who has drunk nothing else but alcoholic drinks for all his life is on his deathbed. They ask him his last wish:

“A drop of water” says the Bektashi.

“But why?”

“A person ought to make peace with all his enemies in his last breath,

Moreover those he has not been able to befriend dur-ing his life…”

So As To Wipe Out the Word of War From All Over the World consists of the poems by Gülsüm Cengiz who has witnessed the three day culminating session of the World Tribunal on Iraq.

“On reading this poem, I felt that our nearly two-year-long efforts of preparing this session were justified. The poet had grasped the essence of the whole process, as if she had taken part in it from the very beginning, had sum-marized the tribunal like a documentary as a first-hand witness would do, and furthermore, thanks to her poetic sensibility, had given us an unforgettable account of the sufferings inflicted on the Iraqi people and the world. Yet she was able to finish her poem with a call of hope, a call for collective struggle, just like the WTI volunteers would do. I would like to thank Gülsüm Cengiz, in the name of all the participants of the WTI, for reminding us once again with her poem that struggling for our values, even when we know that victory is not pending, is imperative to uphold human dignity, or even to build this very dignity...”

Barcode: 9786055315528

Besides his epic theatrical works, Vasıf Öngören has written one children’s book: The Origin of the Tale. The Origin of the Tale consists of 10 tales in two volumes. The first 6 tales in the first volume are with the subtitle, “From Light to Darkness”. The remaining 4 tales are subtitled “From Darkness to Light” in the second volume.

The story of 10 orphan children who transform light into a precious substance is narrated. This substance can be transformed into anything that the children want: Meat, bread, toys, shelter. But is this magical substance going to make the children happy? Are those that find out about the mystery of this substance going to leave the children alone? It is necessary to listen to the tale in order to find this out and necessary to be ten people in order to be able to listen to the tale. And those who learn the tale have to narrate it to ten children.

The Origin of the Tale is translated into German before being published in Turkish and received the “1979 Book Award” of AWMM. It is in a way the tale of the his-tory of civilisation, or, with a different interpretation, the tale of production.

Ayşe is one of us. Maybe our friend in class we sit together with, maybe one of the tens of thousands of children living in the same city. She has a lot of love for human beings, for animals, for the nature in her heart; she carries feelings of friendship, helping out and soli-darity… A child that looks on life with optimism and hope.

Ayşe’s Days tells us the story of this little girl.

This award-winning early youth novel (Katzen Wascht Man Nicht – Fallt aus dem Rahmen by ESELSOHR in Mainz in Germany – 1997) has been translated into German as “Katzen washt man nicht”; and has been published in Switzerland (Nagel und Kimche), and Austria (Gabriel Verlag) in 1997. It’s a dream to find a sincere, reliable friend for every-one from a child to an adult. How and where will a person find him and how will she know him, what will she say to him at first and how will she prove their friendship? May be the answers to these questions create the actual dream. The first steps to the youth are the ages which people mostly need friendship and fellowship. The best friends are of course the ones who will listen to us without interruption, try to cheer us up, not mock with our dreams and be trusted on any ground.

Does it easy to find a friend like this?

I lived and learned how difficult it is.

It seems that the name of this friend is Duman. I had my dreams with “His Name is Duman” once again: the friendship, the sound of sea and a glaring star… It is over there just like a letter waiting you to read.

A 21 year-old young woman, Ayşe Deniz Karacagil was detained for joining the commemoration of Abdullah Cömert who was killed by a police officer during the Gezi Protests in Turkey, and then among five people in Antalya who were judged in the enquiry initiated against the Resistance. Prosecutors were demanding 98 years for Karacagil, also known as “the Girl With The Red Scarf”.

The red scarf of Karacagil who was released after being kept in prison for 4 months was considered as “evidence” because it represented socialism. Although this created great reactions in the public opinion, pros-ecution has not retreated back. This repressive process ended up with The Girl With the Red Scarf “going up to the mountain” to join the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Rojava, i.e. Syrian Kurdistan. Now it is time to read the process that many has witnessed in Turkey on the basis of memories, witnesses, letters; now it is time to listen to the Girl With the Red Scarf in order to live this striking story… Because it has a meaning, why she went away…

Roundish is the story of the journey of an ordinary plastic button with the dream of being part of a glamor-ous necklace. It could not be a pearl in the end of the adventurous journey but it could be an essential round.

Once upon a time, there was a savant who lived in an Anatolian city. He examined every single plant that he saw, and named them according to the shape of leaves and colors of its flowers. Then, he looked into the requirements for its well-growing. He even allocated a huge garden for this purpose.

The savant walked through his garden with his assis-tances and students; he checked on his plants like a phy-sician examining his or her patients. In the meantime, he watered some of them while puffing up the soil for some others.

Null oily packets, peelings, chewing gums, wrapped magazines… clothes are another kettle of fish! Some of them have smell of soap; some of them have smell of sweat…laundries smell fried potatoes and mayonnaise. The smell of the jam clinches to the trousers. Iggh!

Where all things are happening? In the cabinet of a child….murmurings are coming from the cabinet, too. Who do you think is in the cabinet?

This is a “U”. Let’s think what we can do with it? If it is a huge “U”, we can jump in it and swing. Or let’s make a swing and hang it on the clouds. Wait! I have a better idea: Let’s put an “H” before it, and call our neighbors: Huuu! Or put an “H” after it, play together in the streets: Uh! Uh! Huh hu! Or jump into the sea: cUUUUUp! After swimming, you may reverse and put it on your head like a beautiful crown.

But he did none of them. He just reversed this “U” and stuck to his mouth. Thus, he pulled a long face. His friends tried to make him laugh but what he only did is to break up their hearts. Later, he ate his lunch and became happy again. He reversed “U” one more time and smiled wide. Unfortunately, his friends had gone home long time ago. What should he do now?

Some people show bad-temper when they are hungry, some do so when they are sleepy, some are irritated if they are afraid and some are so if they want to be alone. But this shall not long last if anyone knows his attitudes.

Hey look! They are enjoying so much! One is skate-boarding in a big “U”. Other is making a boat from a “U” and sailing in the sea. One is planting colorful flowers in a pot like “U”. The last one is laughing like a gorgeous “U”. Tell me! What are your “U”s doing now?

Black cats, black crows, witches in black costume and black folk… How does it start for them to be exposed to “othering”? We learn in childhood to think that it is bad luck to see any black cat. Just because she is black, we fear or run away… However, black crows are much unluck-ier than cats. Why? They even get to be stoned.

When we are little children, the adult teach us some prejudices. Then, all those are turning into dark feelings and behaviors such as being cruel to the “others”.

All these prejudices distort people’s own perceptions not just about “others” but also about themselves. How? In a sunny day, we might feel that something bad would happen just because we have seen a black cat or we have bought a flight ticket with seat no.13. This panic might cause our thoughts to be manipulated through negative feelings.

How about our cat whose name is 13? She does not tell us anything directly. She just introduces herself. Then, she talks about the injustice and sorrow in the world. On the other hand, she never gives up loving the children and feeling happy. Finally, she asks all of us: “Would you love me or would you think that she is a black cat?”
