SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICESChapel, 8 & 11:45AMThe Chapel affords an intimate and acoustically exceptional worship experience. Seating is close to the pastors and musicians, and the 360 degree “Light of the Universe” stained glass surrounds the building.

Landes Center, 10:30AMWorship in the Landes Center tends to be less formal with a powerful drive. Music is led by the VPC Praise Band, which plays current popular worship music in a visual-driven setting with set pieces and screens.

Sanctuary, 9AMThe Sanctuary offers a soaring ceiling and a soaring time of worship through traditional elements of organ and choir. The largest building at VPC houses children and the elderly, long-time members and first-time visitors, those who were raised with organ and classical music, and those who are drawn to the presence of God.

Children’s Message9 & 10:30AM worship servicesPrior to Sunday School children worship for a time with their family and listen to a message specifically for them. It is an opportunity for kids to hear the music, prayer, and message in the worship services.

Ash WednesdayWednesday, February 106:30PM, SanctuaryThis service begins the season of Lent, and is a reminder of Jesus’ journey to the cross

Valley Presbyterian Church is a place where students, their families, teachers, and volunteers can experience and share Christ’s redeeming love for us! Together we are growing and learning what Jesus taught us-God loves you!

At VPC, our primary goal is to provide safe, fun and nurturing environments that allow you and your kids to worship, learn, and grow. There are many kinds of events at VPC, and opportunities for children differ based on age and type of event. We believe including older children in some church experiences allows them to practice expected behaviors and grow more comfortable. Our team believes parents are the best spiritual leaders for their children, and when events are suitable for the whole family, such as Bunny Business, or include a parent-supervised ‘Kid Zone,’ we will not provide separate experiences for children. On Sundays the Nursery, Toddler Room, and Sunday School are offered for children (schedule varies slightly on holidays and summer). On Friday mornings childcare is offered for MOPS and Women’s Bible Study. Childcare is also offered during some educational opportunities, like Parenting the Love and Logic Way and Financial Peace University, and when publicized, at specific church-wide events by reservation. If you ever have any questions regarding childcare at VPC, don’t hesitate to email Children’s Ministry Director Tina Gilbreath.

We’re very excited to present three different studies this semester:

In the Dust of the Rabbi, by Ray Vander LaanJanuary 17 - February 14Do you feel like you’re a follower of Jesus, but from a distance? In Jesus’ day, disciples followed their Rabbi so closely they would be covered with the dust kicked by His feet. Come discover how you can get dusty and be closer to your Rabbi, Jesus, by doing what He does.

Death and Resurrection of the Messiah, by Ray Vander LaanFebruary 21 - April 10 (No class March 27, Easter)Being a follower of Jesus does not mean we never come in contact with evil. In reality, it means that we must confront it – face to face – just like Jesus did every single day. Come learn how confronting evil can be seen by loudly proclaiming the name of Jesus or quietly caring for someone in need.

The Call: The Life & Message of the Apostle Paul,by Adam Hamilton, April 17 - May 22Follow the journeys of Paul, beginning with his dramatic conversion, as he spread the Gospel through modern-day Greece and Turkey. Travel to the early church sites and explore Paul’s conversations and experience through Christ’s greatest teacher and missionary.

Get to know your church community better through food, fun, and fellowship.

Beliefs and Practices of the First-Century Church*Instructor: Dr. Andrew PittsEvery other Wednesday, February 17 - April 276-7:30PM, Calvin CenterThis six-session course looks in detail at the beliefs and practices of the earliest Christians, as represented by the New Testament. What did first-century Christians think about Jesus? Salvation? The End Times? What were the most important practices of the early church? How were things like prayer, worship and the Lord’s supper informed by surrounding Jewish and Greco-Roman culture? Teacher Dr. Andrew Pitts is the Chair of the Biblical Studies Department at Arizona Christian University, as well as author and editor of several books.

The Holy Spirit: Not a Third Wheel*Instructor: Ed GladyWednesdays, February 17 - March 166:30-7:30PM, Room 409Many of us struggle with understanding the character, nature and role of the Holy Spirit. While we know the concept of a triune God, sometimes the Holy Spirit receives little attention in our discipleship. Join us as we learn more about the Holy Spirit, the Biblical passages that help us understand more about it, and how forming a deeper bond with the Holy Spirit can and will deepen your daily walk with God. The class will be thought provoking, challenging, and will deliberately incorporate ways to apply what you learn so you can get reacquainted with the One who is with us on our discipleship journey.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other. The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self supporting through our own contributions. AA is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, does not engage in controversies, and neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.

LIFE EVENTS

A church campus is a place where people can mark significant points in their and their loved one’s lives. At Valley Presbyterian Church you can celebrate new lives together through marriage, commit individuals into the community of faith through baptism, and remember those who have left us through funerals and memorial services.

WeddingsVPC has several venues available for weddings. If you’re interested in holding your special and sacred event on campus, please contact Della early in the planning process. Celebrate your special day with us!

BaptismsWhen we baptize someone, we witness an individual being brought into the worldwide community of faith and specifically recognized as a unique creation. Baptism also tasks the congregation to come alongside the individual.

Questions? Contact Della Berg: [email protected], [email protected]

Funerals and Memorial ServicesThe Church staff is here to help and support the family and loved ones through this difficult time of transition. Services can be held in The Chapel (seating 130) or The Sanctuary (seating 800). Memorial receptions can also be arranged on campus. We have numerous options dependent on size of the congregation.

Interment and Memorial GardenValley Presbyterian Church has dedicated a portion of its property as a Memorial Garden for the cremains of its community and their families. One section of the Garden has been set aside for a Memorial Wall. Plaques may be placed on the Memorial Wall in memory of a loved one who is interred or buried elsewhere.

What goes on at the Legacy Dinner? This year’s event will be celebrating the Foundation’s 40th Anniversary, and will take the opportunity to tell the story of four decades of service to the VPC community.

The event begins with a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by dinner, live auction, and dancing. During dinner Fund the Need will take place.

What’s Fund the Need?Three important campus improvement projects have been identified; the goal of Fund the Need is to fund these projects completely in one night. It’s an exciting and tangible way for people to see resources turn into tools for ministry.

The 2016 Fund the Need projects are:Signage: Finding your way around the VPC campus can be a challenge. Inviting and vibrant signage can add greater meaning to buildings and what takes place within them.

Landscaping: VPC is embedded in a beautiful desert landscape, this project will enhance the natural aesthetic around campus.

“Loo Renew”: Believe it or not, the quality of a church’s restrooms are one of the main indicators of a visitor returning to a church. This project will remodel the restrooms across from the Sanctuary.
