Memorial Service for Lovy Peter at Christ Church, Sector 18-A, Chandigarh on April 08, 2018 The memorial service at Christ Church, Chandigarh had a very large gathering of Rotarians of RI District 3080 and their spouses, including Past RI President Rajendra K. Saboo, Past RI Director Yash Pal Das with Manju ji, DG T.K. Ruby, Past District Governors, friends and well wishers, to give solace and consolation to PDG Shaju Peter, his daughter Nancy, Lovy’s sister Mrs. Manju Pradhan and Brother-in-law Mr. Dilip Kr. Pradhan. Shraddhanjali Message from President Rtn. Dr. Rita Kalra (This was read in the weekly meeting on April 06, 2018) Such was the soul who walked and talked on this earth alongside all of us and now rests in silence. She was a guide, mentor and guardian since the day I met her in the club. It was her idea to introduce me to the ideals of Rotary. She was very passionate about helping poor destitute children with their nutrition, schooling and also desired to help the disabled. She wanted to chase the empowerment of women and pursued for women safety and dignity. We hope to carry her work forward with her soul mate Shaju. We had a great time during festivities in club meetings when Family of Rotary was actively involved. Her smiling face and sparkling eyes will live in our memories for ever. She was very fond of her Dentist Dr. Sanjay and was always praising his professional work and dedication to serving the community. With hope and faith she healed whom so ever she met. She was a true saint who came for a purpose and decided to leave this mortal world once it was done. She moved into a different plain of existence. Any and every effort to bring her into virtual reality failed. I think I did not try enough. I could not persuade her to stay on …..May be she had more important assignments to carry on and may be someone else needed her blessed presence. Of late she had premonitions and would be worried on some or the other pretext. Her Prayers took her deep into meditation but her mind would be restless. She could take our troubles away but in turn suffered a lot. Her daughter Nancy shared a weird incident yesterday. She said I heard my Mom tore a letter in your meeting and you were patient enough to ignore and carry on. Its then I told her which I have never shared it till today. Lovy walked from the audience right up to the dias, tore some useless paper into pieces and said, “My girl you should have done it. You should have done this.” She scribbled few letters and passed them in the Friday meetings. Her messages were very clear and handy and ended with caution: “Always be pleasant but careful” Lovy Didi. We lost our Angel to the gentle silence of Godliness but she continues to live in our hearts. Hope she continues to pray for us and protect us from the atrocities of the world. ….. Missing you. Yours Dr Saheb and Lil sis. Songs / poetry of Shiv Batalvi

In our weekly meeting on April 13, 2018 on the occasion of Baisakhi we remembered Shiv Batalvi and his famous songs and poetry. President Dr. Rita Kalra invited PP Rtn. Gurdip S. Deep for the invocation, and he spoke about Baisakhi (April 14, 2018), which marks the birth of Khalsa Panth under Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of Sikhs, with 'Panj Pyaare' being the founding members of the Khalsa Panth. This day also marks the beginning of the Sikh new year and the traditional solar new year for Hindus.

While offering expression of gratitude, Rtn. Arjan Singh thanked Rtn. Randhir Singh of Rotary Club of Morinda for entertaining us with songs of Shiv Kumar Batalvi. Arjan went down the memory lane to remember Shiv as a renowned Punjabi poet, author and playwright, who was known for his romantic poetry, noted for its great passion, and lover's agony. Shiv died at a young age of 36, leaving a legacy which is dominating the romantic Punjabi poetic world.
