A graduated cylinder is a tool for measuring the volume of a liquid. Liquid volume can be expressed in liters (L) and milliliters (mL). Irregular shaped objects is also measured using a graduated cylinder. In measuring this you take the volume of the object and water and subtract the original volume of the water. The difference between the volumes is the volume of the object.

You can find the volume of a cube or block, by multiplying its length by its width by its height. The volume of these objects is expressed in cubic centimeters (cm3) or cubic meters (m3).

Density is another property of matter that can be measured. The density of an object or substance is its mass divided by its volume. Density can be expressed as grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3).

Density tells how heavy or light something is for its size.
