EASTER BREAK
Roseneath School- like all schools in New Zealand-will
be closed this Friday through to next Tuesday for the
long Easter weekend. We hope the Easter Bunny is
good to you all!
Chag Sameach (happy holidays) to our Jewish families
who celebrate Pesach (Passover) during this time as
well! We hope you all have a happy time with family and friends over this last break before
winter really hits us. If you are travelling over the long weekend we wish you safe travels and
clear roads wherever you go. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Wednesday
4th April.
ROSENEATH ANZAC SERVICE, TUESDAY 25TH APRIL
We have a tradition of participating in the annual Roseneath ANZAC Memorial Service, and we
would love to continue this tradition. It would be fantastic if some children were to be able to
read the names of the 24 Roseneath service men who lived in Roseneath or Oriental Bay and/or
attended our school. ANZAC Day is in the holidays, and so we know many of you will be away, but
we look forward to hearing from you if your child would like to be a part of this service,
representing our school. Please email [email protected]
KĀHUI AKO| WELLINGTON EAST COMMUNITY OF LEARNING
Principals, Deputy Principals and some Board members in our Community of Learning have been
meeting during this term to continue our work together. Our Strategic Direction is included in
our School Charter. We have started building networks across our schools to share our knowledge
in areas like cultural competence (particularly our knowledge of our area and the tangata whenua
links), our writing curriculum knowledge, and our work on Positive Behaviour for Learning (Our
―Roseneath Way‖). As a small school Roseneath really benefits from these opportunities to share
our knowledge across a wider network, and to learn from other teachers and leaders. Many
schools in our area are working on similar things so it is exciting to be able to maximise the
shared knowledge!
YEAR 3-8 AFTER SCHOOL BASKETBALL LEAGUES 2018
We are looking for Years 3-8 students interested in playing Basketball in our after school
leagues. We love all of our children to have a go with sport, even if its your first time. Mr
Thompson has a notice to send home for anyone interested in finding out more. Once we have
tentative names, Mr Thompson will organise the potential teams, management and coaches, and we
will need signed permission and payment to have been arranged before we enter the final teams
for the season. Do let us know if you would like your child to play but payment is an issue for you.
If you want a notice, or have any questions, please email [email protected] or
drop in and see him in Upper Deck before 9am or after 3pm.

CENTRAL ZONES CRICKET TOURNAMENT – TUESDAY 27
MARCH
In total, six Central Zones schools participated in this event. After a wet
start during the first round, thankfully the weather eventually cleared. The
Year 5 to 8s had another 4 games against different teams. The day ran
smoothly with lots of opportunities to practise bowling, batting and fielding
skills.
Thank you to Matt Wills from Wellington Cricket for putting together the
draw and setting up the equipment on the day and to Anne Crewdson, Chantal
McKee, Justine Gilligan, Sam Hyde, Graham Masi, Lauren Simpson, Simon
Rillstone and Sarah Harrow for helping with supervision and umpiring.

OUR PEOPLE/ OUR STORIES
FAMILY AND WHĀNAU SHARING AFTERNOON TEA
We were thrilled that so many of our families were able to join us on Monday afternoon. Our children loved sharing their
learning with you, showcasing their cultures, and sharing delicious food from our families. It was wonderful to hear so many
fascinating stories, and to make lots of connections between our family histories.
I know that for many of you it is really challenging to get away from work and life commitments during the day, and we are
hoping to hold other events during the year at different times. I want to acknowledge all of the connections you make with
us and with your child’s learning whether in person, by email or phone, and reading all of the information we share through
newsletters and on the website and Facebook pages.

CONGRATULATIONS FROM HAWAII
When she was in Hawaii last year, Hanalei entered an art competition ―Inspired in Hawaii‖ that all
schools in Hawaii participated in. Hanalei was selected as a finalist for her age group/year and won
the competition for her grade! This is quite an honor in that thousands of children sent in their
posters throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Ka mau te wehi Hanalei! Her artwork is now being dis-
played in Kahala Mall and will move to the Hawaii State Capital Building.
