Remember when… We commuted to work, punched a time card or sat through boring staff meetings? Me neither! In order to spread the word about Sons In Retirement, we need to keep our eyes open for the guys who recently retired or are thinking about it. This month’s luncheon is our Labor Day Luncheon. We remember all who worked, are working, and our kids whom we wished were working! We labor still in the fields we love. Invite others to join us. We also need laborers in the fields of Branch 149. We still need someone to step up and be our Little SIR. Now that we have removed the July Ladies Day Picnic from the duties, that job has been more attractive, and we still get a great picnic. We also need someone who will be our Attendance Chair. Sir Steve Chaum, who has chaired attendance for the past several years is stepping down to make way for a new person to step up. Steve has written a very thorough manual to make the job easy. Please consider this valuable position. It will also help you build a great resume’. Remember from last month, Innovation helps keep us alive and growing. Among other great ideas, Sir Stu Williams has set us up with new business cards that offer a free lunch, with a specific date for use. These new cards will help us in our outreach to prospective members. The date is blank and we fill in the date of the next luncheon. This will help new men follow through and attend the next meeting “for the free lunch.” Gentlemen, you make Branch 149 thrive. I personally thank each of you who have given your time and talent. I know you will continue because we have lots of fun and encourage each other to stay alive in our later years. Remember if you are traveling or unable to attend our monthly lunch together, please call: Dave San Filippo 255-3482. That will help us plan for a good time. Remember to pay dues, if you haven’t already done so. We are reviewing the list of Sons who have not paid and hope those on the list will become current and join us soon.Your Big SIR, Jim Prudhomme

Little SIR’s Message:Well fellow Sirs, Labor Day is here and that means Summer is over! It’s been a busy one for me and a lot of you who helped with the Ladies Day Picnic! Thanks again to all those that helped! All the activities in the Branch seem to be busy also. That’s good! Our Roving Rooster Group had a great

trip to Little Bear RV Park at Graeagle. Lots of golf for some, and kayaking for a few others. A little fishing and a great deal of relaxing by everyone else I think. Just a few months before the culmination of our year, The Christmas Dinner. It’s always a great event and I’m sure you’re looking forward to it as I am. If anyone in the Branch has any input, please let the BEC know. Our speaker this month will be Charles Hammond. He will share with us how Law Enforcement deals with bad people that are hard to control. His Company is called WRAP RESTRAINT. Once again, don’t forget to bring a prospective member/friend to lunch! Also, a matter of greater importance, we still need a LITTLE SIR for next year. Please think about it! See you at the Meeting.

Respectfully Submitted, Little Sir, Carl Hammond

18 Hole Golf with SIR Peter Dreier: Our August golf outing was held at 9:30am on Wednesday, August 15th at Rancho Solano Golf Course in Fairfield with 52 Sirs golfers in attendance. It was a beautiful warm golf day. There were three flights, depending upon NCGA handicap ratings and the winners of each flight were: First Flight-1st ALLAN ARMSTRONG with a net score of 66; 2nd GORDON LOPEZ with a net score of 66; 3rd PHIL COFFELT with a net score of 68; 4th JOHN BUCKLEY with a net score of 69; Second

Flight-1st MARC LONGORIA with a net score of 60; 2nd JIM CHERNISS with a net score of 61; 3rd DON KRIEGER with a net score of 68; 4th HARVEY DURRETT with a net score of 68; Third Flight-1st RANDY SCHMELING with a net score of 63; 2nd VIC TOMASYAN with a net score of 65; 3rd LES HAUG with a net score of 66; 4th LARRY TIMMER with a net score of 67. The closest to the hole were ALLEN ARMSTRONG with a shot of 10’1”,DON KRIEGER with a shot of 16’7” and BOB ELLIS with a shot of 18’8”. At every monthly lunch, in the back of the room we have sign-up sheets for usually the next two golf outings and encourage all SIRS members who enjoy the game of golf to come out and play with us. The goal is to have lots of fun, make new friends with other SIRS brothers, share a lot of golf stories and not take ourselves too seriously. I want to personally invite all new SIRS members who recently joined 149 and indicated that they like to play golf to sign up for one of our upcoming golf events. If you do not have an official NCGA handicap index that is not a problem. We can help you get one and get on the SIRS 149 Golf Register. Respectively Submitted By, Peter Dreier, Chairperson, SIRS 149 Golf Club.

9 Hole Golf with SIR Mike Murrell: Wednesday is golf day for SIRS. Consider it a middle of the week meditation ritual to calm your mind and banish all frustrations you may have gained over the time since our last golf outing. We play 9-Holes at scenic Vintner’s Golf Club in restaurant haven Yountville. Tee times start at 9 AM and we tee off on the first hole. Green fees are your responsibility and there is a $3 entry fee for our voluntary closest to the pin contests on two of the three par 3’s. So if you

would like to relax, or just take your frustrations out on a little white or yellow or pink sphere please email me at [email protected] for more details or to let me know “U-R-N”.

Romeo/Dining Out with Ron Wilson: The Romeos descended on Fume’ in August with 63 Sirs, wives, and guests attending. This is by far the largest turn-out of the year. Because of the tourist season and limited number of restaurants that can handle our numbers, we are going to need to take a break in September. The next Romeo event is tentatively scheduled at La Strada in October. For more info. call or text Ron at 360-880-2652 or e-mail him at

 [email protected] .

Roving Roosters with SIRs Bill Hester & Dave San Filippo: Our Roving Roosters had a great time for our August outing at Little Bear RV Park in Blairsden CA. Our next RV trip will be to Heritage RV Park in Corning, CA. Oct. 12th -18th. Bob Hairston wagon master. For more information on future trips, please contact SIR Dave San Filippo @ 707-255-3482.

Theater with SIR Bob Benning: Many in both VALLEJO SIR and #149 are racing, with torches in hand, to see Young Frankenstein. For $20 you can be a part of this musical horror show on October 14th. Being very tall and already having a bolt in his neck, Adrian Van Winden is a natural to play the title role! Frank Volis, being very short with beady eyes will play the part of the trusty assistant, Igor. Frank is growing a hump for this special occasion! Pitch forks and burning torches need to be checked at the front door.

For more info contact Bob Benning at 337-2614.

Traveling with SIR Tom Jensen: We had a wonderful day at The Day at the Races in Golden Gate Fields! Stay tuned for upcoming events! Any questions, please contact Dave at 255-3482 or Tom Jensen at 255-7160 or email him at [email protected] .

Hikers and Trippers with SIR Pete Smith: We had another great day on Angel Island last month, Kudos to "Chef Roberto" for the gourmet burgers! It was a dark and foggy night back in 1823 when the captain of the S.S Tennessee missed the Golden Gate and ran aground off what was then known as Indian Cove. With great skill and leadership he was able to get all the 500 passengers and crew and all of the cargo, including several chests

of gold off safely. To commemorate this event the cove was renamed "Tennessee Cove" and the trail leading from the beach became the Tennessee Trail that has become one of the most popular hikes in Northern California. It is said that the remains of the ship’s engines can sometimes be seen at low tide. SIR's will be doing this hike Wednesday, September 19th. This is an easy 4-mile hike, mothers with strollers are not uncommon. When we reach the ocean we will take a short rest and after reaching the trailhead will reconvene at the Dipsea Cafe in Mill Valley for lunch. We should be back in Napa around 3.30 p.m. Meet up at the Ride share lot at Solano and Redwood Rd. at 9.00 a.m. and chip in a few bucks for gas if you are a rider. Parking is free. Should be back in Napa around 3.30 p.m. Please let me know ASAP if you are joining us as I need a head count for the restaurant. Happy Trails, Sir Pete [email protected] or 707-888-1909.

Walkers with SIR Dave Henry: Greetings, the grass is green, the sky is blue, the mud has dried up and there are balloons galore. No excuse for not joining us for a Spring walk around Alston Park. We meet at the South parking lot at 7.30 a.m every Monday morning. For more information contact Dave Henry at [email protected] or by phone at 227-7413.

Webpage & Facebook with Adrian Fenderson: We are proud of our SIR #149 website. Wine Tasting with SIR Bart Barthelemy: Getting the preliminary details for our Dry Creek Road Trip on Sept 12th. Due to the distance, etc., I’ve decided to limit our visits to upper Dry Creek wineries this time and we can do lower Dry Creek another time. Most of the wineries have a limit on group size of 8-10 so if we have a lot of winos going we might have to split into two groups and do a tag-team approach. The same space issue exists for the picnic grounds. So, I need a quick response of who is

interested in going and how many in your group. It will be first come/ first served so get your name in early. For more information contact Bart at [email protected] .
