    November 2017

    Greetings MMAW Members'

    I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We celebrated Roxanne's moms 94th birthday;

attended our granddaughter’s Christmas Play and had several wonderful holiday meals

    with family.

Our Club Christmas party was a resounding success. Thanks to all for bringing food

and good cheer. You folks were amazing.

Jim Brodd was again the club Santa. Thanks Jim for the nice Christmas gifts.

If you are not yet a member of the American Association of Wood turners, please

consider joining. We will have information available during the January meeting. For

those AAW members there is a very good section in the online newsletter, “Wood

Turning Fundamentals – Platters” Check it out.

Dick Beemer has graciously agreed to present a safety briefing for our January meeting.

I believe this and basic first aid should become an integral part of our annual club

curriculum. January will also be a great opportunity to bend the ear of your favorite

board member with recommendations for future club demos.

I'm hoping to formalize a “Use” agreement with the Paramount during the next several

months. More to you as that develops. Also, we are working with the Paramount staff

    to develop classroom offerings.

Be sure to bring items for the Members Gallery.

    Happy New Year

    Denny Myers

    President

    1. We have a new member, Rick Zawacki from St. Cloud, who has joined the club.He came to the last Arts Underground evening and decided to join the club after working with Jerry, Mark and Gary that evening. Welcome Rick.

    2. Denny started the meeting by introducing spouses that had joined us for our Christmas/regular meeting. Joan Och (Eddie) Darlene Schmoll (Fred) Joan Drevlow (Marvin) Elizabeth “Woody” Baker (Bill) Karen Thielman (Gary) Pam Wervey (Jerry) Chris Schellinger (Cathy). Welcome everyone.

    3. Instant Gallery:

Guy Schafer had a cherry bowl from a tree he got 2 years ago and had shared with several club members. It was his last piece of the tree.

Lenny Merdan had a crazy goblet made with apple, maple, hickory, mahogany and walnut and a birdhouse ornament.

Eddie Och had some blocks of wood that could be used to make jam chucks to give away. He had a few samples that he shared.

    4. In 50/50 drawing $25.00 was won by Albert Keppers.

    5. Denny started off a sharing time and requested other club members to share any positive messages they wanted to share. Many members had thoughts to share.

    6. Guy Schafer invited club members to stay after the January meeting to turn bowls for the Empty Bowls Project. Several members indicated that they would stay to help turn bowls. Guy will be sure there is wood to turn. Anyone can bring their own bowl blanks if they would like.

    7. Fred Schmoll wants members to let him know if they are not getting the electronic newsletter. Contact Fred if you have any questions or concerns.
