President’s Message
Central Philippine University can always be proud of her
active Alumni Chapters all over the world. Such enthusiasm
has helped CPU reach her goals and fulfill her mission of
providing exemplary Christian education. Looking at the 24-
hectare campus, with its scenic landscape and constantly
improving facilities, one cannot help but also see the many faces of alumni who,
once, have walked through her picturesque and history-rich buildings and who, now,
are generously sharing what they have so that CPU could continue her realization of
imparting knowledge and strengthening Christian faith.
As we celebrate our 9th Global Reunion this year, may we not only exchange stories
and reminisce about our time at CPU, but may we also be reminded of what we have
achieved collectively that we may look forward to what we could still achieve for our
alma mater.
The Global Reunion is not just an ordinary gathering of Centralians. It is a
celebration of the strong bond that we have established throughout the years. It is
a recollection of beautiful stories and unforgettable experiences of our stay at our
dear Central. It is a get-together of individuals who share the same passion and
steadfast dedication to keep the Central Spirit alive.
I congratulate the CPUFOAA under the leadership of Larry Lebiga for their efforts in
making sure that this Global Reunion is a success and will encourage each of us to
continuously work together for the betterment of our beloved Alma .
It is my fervent prayer that the 9th Global Reunion be a success. May God bless our
future endeavors!

School days are here again. What more can be so inspiring
than remembering a beginner child on her first day in kinder
school?
I was falling for her antics. She runs about and jumping in her
little school shoes. I smile as she mimics a cry. “Look who’s
carrying my heavy bag?”, she said. Then I wrapped her tightly
in my arms and told her “Oh, you’re just heavier than your
bag”. She laughed and moved to the door of her classroom.
Still those eyes looked back and begging me to stay.
That was many years ago, and after a while she will graduate
like her elder sister and brother. I will no longer see her
everyday dropping by my office and knowing that she enjoys
her nursing school.
My inspiration remains, but it’s about knowing that their diligent
attitude, and good values from education will see them through
their future.
Children are blessings as we would realize that they’re part of
our perseverance, patience and working hard to sustain them
in school.
Their education remains to be the best provision on their
journey to success. . The years that they are studying in school
should make them worthy of facing the future.

The popular word in the Philippines right now is the
"change." The slogan of President Duterte during his
campaign was "Change is coming." Now it is "Change has
come."
For Christians, what does CHANGE mean for us? What
does it mean in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that the old has gone
and the new has come?
First, Committing ourselves to Christ, the Author of
changes in our lives. As changed people, our commitment
now is to serve Christ no matter what the cost may be.
Second, Helping those who are outside of our circles.
Those who are in Christ are now looking to help beyond
family and associational ties.
Third, Allowing ourselves to be corrected by the Holy
Spirit. As Christians we are being sanctified by Holy Spirit
in order for us to become more mature in our spiritual
lives.
Fourth, Negating the evil influences in our lives. In Jesus
Christ we are given the power overcome the temptations.
In doing so, we negate the hold of evil in our lives.
Fifth, Going out of our way in for others. Jesus teaches us
to "go the extra mile." Let us give more than what is
expected of us.
Sixth, Engaging in transformative ministries. Because of
the changes in our lives, we also want others to have that
change in their lives. So, we join others in sharing what we
received from Christ.

MID-YEAR REPORT OF THE CPUAAI PRESIDENT
Dan P. Dorillo President, AY 2016-17
CPUAAI”S DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES: “The Alumni of Central Philippine University, wherever situated, shall create a more solid union, develop mutual interests among themselves, maintain their loyalty and strengthen their love for their Alma Mater, uphold her Christian ideals and help maintain and promote the expansion and progress of Central Philippine University… … … ”
The purpose of CPU’s alumni association is to support the plans and programs of the University,
promote its Christian values, and link with alumni within and outside CPU’s borders to propagate
love and loyalty for their alma mater. It is CPUAAI’s role to keep track of and link with all Centralians,
wherever they are, and strengthen the tie that binds to keep the Central Spirit burning within them.
The alumni, in a way, help enhance the university’s reputation which, in turn, contributes to the increase of its student population. The successful alumni would definitely influence more students to study in their alma mater, and new graduates will have better job prospects because they went to a reputable school like CPU. The successful CPU graduates would likely attribute their progress in the professional world to their CPU education and upbringing, and later would also decide to enroll their children at CPU … and the cycle goes full circle. In its Strategic Planning Session & Workshop, the CPUAAI Board decided to adopt this theme for 2016: “Living the Central Spirit beyond Borders”. While retaining the traditional on-campus alumni activities such as the Annual Alumni Homecoming and the Christmas Festival of Lights & Music, the CPUAAI has embarked on external projects with the aim of linking with the alumni in the provinces for them to renew their ties with CPU. Some of these activities are:
MOA signing between the CPU Packaging Engineering and the CAPIZ COCONUT FARMERS COOPERATIVE, the NEGROS OCCIDENTAL ORGANIC PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION and THE PANAY ORGANIC PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION. These three organizations have Centralians as key officers.
Coordinated orientation-seminar by CPU Packaging Engineering for 30 core SMEs under Negros Organic Producers in cooperation with Negros alumni
Organization of a Negros provincial alumni association with the CPUCA Alumni spearheading the move.
Reaching out to alumni who have been appointed and elected in the new government of President Duterte. The list includes 2 Cabinet Secretaries (Atty. Jun Yasay of DFA and Dr. Leonor Briones of DECS), 2 Undersecretaries, several Governors, Congressmen & Mayors, and a big number of councilors. They will be properly recognized during the Homecoming on October 1.
Invitation to former CPUR officials to a grand reunion on September 30 In tandem with the CPUCA Alumni, a proposal will be presented to the CPU Board to utilize the
old “Kabalaka” lot across CPU as a trading post (“Bagsakan”) which will be the outlet of fresh farm produce of alumni.

OFTEN walking your pet dog is a tiring chore – imagine running after a puppy that keeps slipping off of its collar or trying to shimmy a hyperactive dog into its harness. Add to that how excitable your pet can be around new surroundings, dragging you by the leash and barking at other dogs – your peaceful morning walk turning into a frantic race.
A few students at Central Philippine University (CPU) thought why not turn the activity into something unique and enjoyable – something that not only fosters a bond between a dog and its owner, but also creates a community of likeminded dog-lovers, as well as letting our canine companions meet new friends.
“Doggie Dash 2016 is actually an independently organized event by the students of CPU taking up the Advert427 class, our Planning and Exhibition subject,” shares Sheila Aligway one of the organizers of the event.
Held at SM City Iloilo 5 a.m. on July 2, Doggie Dash 2016 welcomed more than 50 participants and their sprinting pets – letting pet owner-dog tandems jog along Diversion Road.
Aside from the Doggie Dash run, the CPU students also put together a photo-exhibit c o n t e s t e n t i t l e d “Pawtographie.” Open to all photographers, d o g - o w n e r s a n d h o b b y i s t s , t h e competition wanted to showcase the beauty and cuteness of pets with three categories: Going Solo (pet portraits), Selfie with Me (photos of the dog with its owner) and
