Please Note! Because of Federal Privacy laws, if you or a
member of your family are hospitalized and
would like the Pastor to visit, you must contact
the church and let us know.
Please help remember Bethany’s mem-
bers who are in nursing homes or home-
bound by sending them a card. A birth-
day or a “thinking of you” card is a spe-
cial way of showing God’s love. As we
move into the summer months, take a
minute to send a card with a short note -
these folks would love to hear from you.
Names and addresses are available on
the table in the fellowship hall. Please
remember to mark the spreadsheet if
you send a card.
HOMEBOUND CARD
MINISTRY
There are many ways to express good-
nights and goodbyes: so long, farewell, adieu,
as expressed in “The Sound of Music” as well as
adios, ta-da, bye, see you, take care, farvel
(Danish), and I’m sure you can think of other
expressions.
It will soon be time for Mary Jo and I to
say our farewells after having been a part of
the Bethany family for over a year. For us, it’s
been a joy and a privilege. Keep in mind that it
should not be a tearful departure as we will
still be a part of the Burlington community. As
such, I’m sure we’ll run across many of you at
various venues: worship events, grocery stores,
concerts on the street, restaurants, etc.
We will the best for you as you turn the
page and begin a new chapter in the life and
ministry of the congregation upon the arrival of
Pastor Hermansen. As this happens, a phrase
from the familiar hymn sums it up quite well:
“God be with you till we meet again.”

Council Meeting Minutes for June Chimes newsletter
The Council met May 15, 2016 with Kimberly Engle, Mike Hopp, Jim Martindale, Todd More-
head, Mike Morris, Bill Mundt, Mark Rosenberg, Candy Wagner, and Dan Wischmeier attend-
ing, along with Pastor Andersen and Amanda Stevenson-Cosgrove.
Financial Reports and Outside Audit of Bethany
We are approximately one third of the way through the year with the General Fund holding
well to the budget. No unexpected issues.
The outside audit is on track to be completed prior to Pastor Hermansen’s installation. The
cost is estimated at approximately $400. Additionally, we are planning to hold future au-
dits at the close of each year, preferably in time for the Congregation annual meeting if
scheduling allows (keeping in mind that January is a busy time for audits.)
Committee, Staff, and Pastor’s Report Highlights:
Pastor Andersen has been very busy with preparations for quite a few baptisms, weddings
(both at Bethany in filling in at Trinity Lutheran), as well as his and Mrs. Andersen’s visi-
tations to private homes, nursing homes, and the hospital. In his report, he extended his
thanks to staff and volunteers for this continuing ministry and activities here at Bethany.
Amanda presented the Youth & Family Coordinator report. It has been a very busy time in
coordination with the Christian Education committee with the two Confirmations held last
week and summer youth ministry plans, including Confirmation Camp in conjunction with
Trinity and Vacation Bible School to be held at Messiah.
Amanda is looking for volunteers to help with Vacation Bible School June 20-24, from 9 am to
12 pm. Please see her if you are able to assist.
The Property Committee has completed some tree and stump removal. An assessment of the
church’s sound system is currently in the works, including investigating to see if it’s possi-
ble to get a more sensitive microphone for the lectern. A further assessment of security/
locks is temporarily postponed until later in the summer when Pastor Hermansen will be
available for input as well. Again, if you have any suggestions, please let a Council mem-
ber know.
The Music & Worship Committee has prepared hymn plans through Pastor Hermansen’s in-
stallation.
Paster Hermansen’s Installation:
Council President, Mike Hopp, has been working closely with Pastor Hermansen for a smooth
move and transition to avoid any lapses in benefit/insurance coverage, etc. His first Wor-
ship service at Bethany will be Sunday, June 26th.
Potluck in Honor of Pastor Andersen and Pastor Berlien:
We would like to thank our interim ministers jointly with a potluck to be held after Worship
Services on June 12th (Sunday before Father’s Day).
As a reminder, members of the Bethany Congregation who wish to are invited to be present at Council
meetings. If any member of the Congregation would like to speak or bring up any issue, please see Mike
Hopp about adding the item to the agenda. In addition, a Council member contact list is now posted on
the bulletin board at the entrance of the Fellowship hall. Please do not hesitate to contact any Council
member if you have any questions or suggestions.
