The Great Room is Taking Shape

Watch for details about the grand opening in early summer, 2019

Ready, Set, ...Grow! Long ago, the room was the auditor ium for Sacred Hear t

Academy. Today, the empty room is being transformed to a Great Room for residents to

grow socially, spiritually , intellectually, and physically. The Great Room is designed for

multi-purposes and provide much needed space for dancing, singing, learning, lectures,

and life enrichment. While the basic construction cost of $1.7 million has been carefully

planned, the campaign was established to raise an additional $1 million to equip the room

with the latest technologies and assisted devices to make the room senior friendly. To

date, $510,985 has been raised and we continue to inch closer to our goal.

Of course, during the construction, residents and

staff has some fun painting a mural on temporary

walls. Their art work may not be a permanent fix-

ture, however, their creativity, team work, and ar-

tistic talents will always be around and expressed

in many ways, especially when the Great Room is

complete.

Opportunities to give offer a variety of option in-

cluding giving over time, matching gifts, and

pledging in honor of a loved one. For a truly

unique and lasting expression of affection, a com-

memorative gift may be offered by an individual, a

family, or

an organization (can be spread over a three year

pledge period) in remembrance or recognition of a

loved one, friend, colleague, or caregiver. The

memorial or honorary designation becomes a per-

manent tribute of the donor’s devotion and gener-

osity and offers the opportunity to give thanks for

the blessing of family and friends.

To learn more visit www.villastben.org. or call the

foundation office at 630-725-7011 for information

about giving opportunities and tribute gifts.

Message from Villa St. Benedict Foundation

Tammy Bruner,

Foundation Coordinator

I am so very grateful to be Foundation Coordinator at Villa St. Benedict, since May 2015. It is my pleasure to work with our residents, their families and loved ones in navigating the world of aging and all of the transitions that come with this process.

Awareness, pride and growth are the words that come to mind when thinking about the Villa St. Benedict Foundation. I have had the fortunate opportunity to work closely with some talented, creative and hard-working residents on our Great Room project, called the Ready, Set…Grow! Campaign. This new space will allow for growth-socially, spiritually, intellectually and physically by offering a new space for learning, entertainment, live productions, meetings, dances and many other opportunities.

Meet the New Foundation Director

Susan Neustrom Ed.D.

As the new foundation director, I am energized and enthusiastic about the Ready, Set, … Grow! Campaign and enhancing giving opportunities while growing the foundation and developing an advisory board. My experience spans leadership positions in both corporate and nonprofit sectors providing an opportunity to work with multiple populations including adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, homeless individuals and families, incarcerated men and women, and most recently serving seniors with memory loss and cognitive impairments and their caregivers.

While my role is new, my relationship with Villa St. Benedict dates back to my childhood being taught by the Sister of Sacred Heart and later my mother lived at Benedale Center and Abbey Lane. I can speak from personal experience that mom enjoyed the best quality of life despite advancing dementia and she would tell me often how much she loved living at Villa St. Benedict. Thanks to the Foundation, knowing mom could continue to live in her home if her funds diminished was a source of comfort for me and my sister. The Charitable Fund is just one of the several foundation funds that assist residents in need, support programs and life enrichment activities, and capital improvement projects. Truly, I am in awe of the many supporters who enable Villa St. Benedict to thrive and provide the highest quality of life for our residents in their aging journey. I look forward to sharing all that is happening at the foundation throughout the year.
