Columbus Day Parade
Sunday, October 8th 11:00 AM
The Annual Columbus Day Parade will take place on
Atwells Avenue in the Federal Hill section of
Providence. Join in the fun and celebration honoring
Christopher Columbus who discovered America. In
the midst of all the food and entertainment watch for
the DaVinci Center entry of two antique cars with the
banner reading “Good Old Fashion Family Values-
They Still Work.” See you at the parade. Get out and
meet some old friends and friendly faces.
Thanksgiving Day Celebration
Thursday, November 23th
Thanksgiving is a great time to gather with friends and family and give thanks for our
many, many blessings. For those of you who may be alone on this wonderful holiday,
some churches and agencies will have congregate meals where you can join others and
celebrate your Thanksgiving meal! Since the arrangements have not been finalized to
date, you may call either one for an update.

Home Delivered Thanksgiving Meals-If you do not wish to join the congregate meal,

Something for chocoholics as we travel to Mt. St. Mary’s Gift Shop Abbey in Wrentham, just
over the Cumberland, RI. border, where we will visit the place where you can buy home made
chocolate and fudge made by the holy nuns of the CISTERCIAN order. You may
even want to visit the chapel. Then we will proceed to the Cracker Barrel Restaurant
for a delightful lunch on your own. Then we move onward to satisfy the shopaholics
appetite at the Wrentham Village outdoor mall where you may purchase quality clothing at
any of the 200 name brand discount stores. After all your appetites have been filled we will
return at approximately 3:00 pm. All this for $5.00 for the bus. Of course shopping is
on your own. Get out of the house and come have a good day and meet new friends. Call to

Tony’s Pizza & Pasta restaurant in Cranston where you will enjoy soups, salads, and

Then with the Holidays rapidly approaching you may want to get an early start with hol-
iday decorations and gift shopping as we go to the Christmas Tree Shop in
Warwick. Cost of the trip is $5.00 for the bus. Lunch and shopping are on your own.

The art class taught by Ron Reeves , an accomplished
painter, has been a great success. Those who never
picked up a brush are creating beauty they never
dreamed they could accomplish. Join them as we
continue the classes on Tuesday afternoons at 1:00

VETS DAY -Tribute to Veterans by Oceanbones
Wednesday, November 8 at our Noon meal we will pay tribute to our veterans who have
served our country by protecting and preserving peace. This special day will feature a group
of 12 trombone players know as Oceanbones, who will play an array of patriotic tunes that
will have you marching around the room. Come join us. We will have a special gift for all
Veterans present.
RI STRUMMERS - (20 Senior Ukulele players) This group
Of 20 senior citizen ukulele players will perform for us on
Wednesday, November 1 at the DaVinci Center at 11:15 A.M.
This will be a real treat to hear this popular group strum some of
your favorite tunes. Get here early and enjoy this unusual
performance by your contemporaries. Guess what? The oldest member of the group is 100
years of age and she is full of fun and energy. Don’t miss this special treat. Its free and open
to the public. Stay for lunch if you wish.

The yoga class is taught by Jan Silvestiri, a
skilled yoga teacher for 37 years who is also an
expert in nutritution and holistic health.
Yoga will balance your body, mind, emotions
and energy and create an inner atmosphere of
peace. Yoga for beginners is an easy, safe, and
fun way to start your journey towards good health
and wellbeing. Having physical agility and hav-
ing previous experience is not a requirement for

every Wednesday afternoon to assist you with your needs for infor-
mation on any issue you are facing. She is very resourceful and a

Health Our nurse, Mary Dumont, from Health Services will be present for
blood pressure and consultation on health matters on Wednesday, Oct.
11 & 25 and Nov. 8 & 22 from 11:00 to 1:00. All services are free
compliments of Health Services.

MEDICARE Part D Enrollment October 15 - December 7
Open Enrollment for all Medicare plan is from October 2017 to December, 2017. You
may enroll for the first time during this period. Anyone 65-years-old or older is required
to be enrolled in Medicare part D, the Medicare Plan that pays for prescription drugs. Dur-
ing the enrollment period you may enroll for the first time or change your Medicare Part D
Insurance provider. If you have already enrolled in Medicare Part D, then you do not
need to enroll again.
SPECIAL ENROLLMENT DAY AT DAVINCI CENTER
On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, The DaVinci Center will have several enrollment
counselors available to assist you in choosing the best plan for your particular needs. You
must make an appointment by calling 272-7474 if you seek assistance in enrolling. In
Order to provide information on two of the major local insurance providers we have
arranged for speakers to appear at the DaVinci Center as follows:

DAVINCI CENTER CELEBRATION
On Wednesday, October 25th, at NOON, We will have our annual Halloween Party at the
Center with live music. You can come as ou are or can wear your Halloween costume and
enter our contest. Who will be the most creative? The scariest? Most unique? Most origi-
nal? Be a sport --lots of fun. Prizes for all catagories and you will be the judges. Enjoy
the party, music, fun and great food!
LOW-INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

LIHEAP pays heating and cooling bills and some energy related home re-
pairs. The following are FY2018 Low Income Guidelines. If you are below these
income levels you qualify.
No Citizenship or Immigrant Requirements
If you are already on the LIHEAP program you will get a renewal form in the mail
from Community Action Partnership of Providence (CAPP). If you are applying for
the first time call CAPP at (401) 723-2000 and ask for a LIHEAP form to be sent to
you. After you fill it out and send it back they will contact you to make an appoint-
ment. When you go to the appointment you will need identification and proof of in-
come and residency and other as required.
WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (WAP)
(LIHEAP clients also qualify for WAP)

The Rhode Island Italian American Hall of Fame will be hosting a “SALUTE TO
AMERICA BRAVEST” honoring 8 Rhode Island Veterans including some of our
local heroes Bob Capone, Tom Breggia and Al Golato at the Vets Auditorium.

tember 11th at Agawam-Hunt Country Club was a great
success. The Good Lord Blessed eighty golfers with per-
fect weather which embellished the beauty of a pristine

Providence Journal will host the Life Expo which is sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of

businesses, live entertainment and will feature local celebrity singer Jeffrey Osbourne.

Come join us when a representative of RI School of Design Museum will
be at our agency to present “Treasures of the RISD Museum” The presenta-
tion entitled “Snapshots” is an armchair tour, that led by museum docents
that will offer a visual panorama of favorite pieces within the museum’s
collection and will include questions and discussion. This event is free.
Whether you are an art connoisseur for years or if you just like to look at
works of art, this program is for you. Please join us for this exciting
presentation. You will be glad you did.
