Three residents serve two-year terms and are appointed by the Board of Directors. Currently, the ACC is comprised of Mrs. Melaine Woolsey, Mrs. Emily Heckroth and Mr. Homero Cabello. Mrs. Woolsey is chairman of the committee. The ACC reviews residents’ written proposals for additions to their homesteads. It’s an effort to provide for and protect our homeowner rights and values. Barker Ranch residents are required to seek permission to make improvements to their property by way of an Improvement Request Form or IRF. Proposed modifications include any action or improvement that might affect the exterior appearance of a building, including but not limited to painting, patio covers, outside buildings, fences, moving fences, additional lighting, etc. You should submit an IRF to the ACC before beginning work. The committee reviews your proposals as soon as possible (usually within a few days), and report back to you of its approval or denial. It is important to note that the HOA has the power to demand removal of a completed improvement if the improvement does not meet the guidelines, or has not been previously approved. The criteria are set forth by our CCR’s. An IRF may be downloaded from our website at barkerranch.org. Board Member Resigns Board Member Matt Bowers and his family moved from Barker Ranch to Wyndham, Connecticut in March. Matt resigned from the board and a replacement is being considered. Barker Ranch thanks Matt for his service to our community and wishes him happiness and success in his future endeavors in Boston. TAX TIPS – 2008 Don’t forget to file your Federal Income Taxes (or apply for an extension) by Tuesday, April 15, 2008!! The IRS has made it much easier to file electronically if you do not want to file a paper return or are in need of a last minute extension. You can also file form 4868 electronically which will give you an extension of up to 6 months to file your return (October 15, 2008) but it does not extend the payment for those taxes. If you think you will owe when you do file your return, then you must pay the balance along with the extension request or you will pay the government interest and penalties. Looking for your refund? If you have already filed your return and want to know the status of your refund, you can now log on-line and find out when you can expect to receive it. This option is available whether you requested automatic deposit into one or multiple accounts or a check mailed to your home address. Log on to: www.irs.gov for a link to this feature. Make sure you: Maximize your credits! The credits available to many filers are often overlooked. These include: Child & Dependent Care Credit: may be available for daycare expenses paid even if you participate in a flexible spending program with your employer. Child Tax Credit: generally available for taxpayers having qualifying children with adjusted gross income under $110,000 Education Credits: for higher education expenses two different credits apply, the Hope Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit Adoption Credits: a nonrefundable credit available for taxpayers with qualified adoption expenses Watch Out For: The IRS has new substantiation requirements for common itemized deductions such as employee business deductions and charitable contributions including non-cash contributions. Make sure you get with your tax advisor if you think any of the above could possibly benefit you as each individual situation is different. www.BarkerRanch.org Barker Ranch is in the process of switching website formats. Irrigation An audit and repair of our Barker Ranch irrigation system is being performed. Adjustments of sprinkler heads and replacement where need is part of the performance. The city of Austin enacted an ordinance in 2007 that strictly regulates the watering of landscapes and Barker Ranch wants to comply. We’ll adjust

Riding the fences The Board of Directors authorized the maintenance, repair and re-staining of our Barker Ranch fence. This multi-thousand dollar project included pressure washing, repair, replacement and re staining of the fence where needed. A new section of fence was installed along the Gatling Gun entrance. The work was performed in March.

Streetlights In Barker Ranch, many of the streetlight bulbs have

burned out or need replacement. If you notice a streetlight near you that needs replacement call the Pedernales Electric Cooperative at 1-888-554-4732. There is a number on the light pole that they will need in order to dispatch

someone to repair the problem, so have that when you call. Streetlights are a function of an agreement between the city and the electricity provider, not the HOA.
