A President’s Tail On Life This time of year we reflect on our bless-ings and give thanks. All of us have so much in our life to be thankful for. I won’t bore you with what I am thankful for; my husband, my finned and 4 legged kids, my family, our cars, my flower garden, creativity, health, etc. I hope you stop and take the time to see the fall color and count your blessings.

Thank you, to the car show committee for a great show and all your hard work.

Please be sure to read through the by-laws and come to the November meeting prepared to discuss and vote on them.

This is a very important issue and your participation in the process if very impor-tant.

We will be voting for Governor so please mail or bring your bal-lots to the meeting. We will be taking nominations from the floor at the November meeting for officers and board members. And again your partici-pation is very impor-tant.

Happy Thanksgiving & Keep on Vett’n,

Kim West

Cowtown Vettes is Recognized

Many of you may remember, one of our charter members, Sylvia, has recently been stricken with kidney failure. The August “pool party” social at Sylvia’s home was can-celled. All proceeds collected for that social were donated to the North Texas Kidney Foundation in Sylvia’s honor. CTV recently received a card stating:

A Thoughtful Tribute...

The National Kidney Foundation of North Texas

Is making lives better and gives thanks for the generous gift

in Honor of Sylvia given by Cowtown Vettes.

Not a day goes by that we don’t wishNot a day goes by that we don’t wishNot a day goes by that we don’t wish Sylvia the speediest recovery! Sylvia the speediest recovery! Sylvia the speediest recovery! Go pink vette, go!Go pink vette, go!Go pink vette, go!

The National Kidney Foundation walk on Satur-

day, October 21, at the Botanic Gardens in Fort

Worth was lots of fun and for a very good

cause. Sharon Zschirnt, Debbie and Jerry Lindsey,

Kim West, Carol Savage and myself, along with a "little" friend, Katy Thomas, all walked the 3 mile course in honor of Sylvia! It was a beautiful day and the

gardens were in bloom and really pretty. I believe I heard that 383 people signed up to

walk. Thanks to all of you who participated, I know

Sylvia appreciates it!

Winter is finally here and Christmas is almost around the corner. Where has this year gone? For those traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday, have a safe and nice visit with your families.

I want to thank Doug and Glenda for a great time I had racing at Sherman using their car. What a difference

driving a C4!! Nancy and I enjoyed the day being with the Gorman’s, the Lewis’s, the McMahan’s, the Meyer’s and the Morri-son’s. We also enjoyed seeing many of our Southeast Region friends.

I want to thank Karyn Fowler for heading the Na-tional Kidney Foundation Walk and Fred Rosett heading the Annual All Corvette Car Show. I know both events were a great success. I will include details of both events in next months Low Down since the board members arti-cles were due by Oct. 21st.

November 18th 2006 will be Cowtown’s last 100% social for the year. “Cruise to Dick’s Last Resort”. The starting location will 9:30 AM at the Ameriquest Field In Arlington. (West side of the Stadium) They have a great menu: Burgers, Chicken, Ribs, Shrimp, Catfish and Sal-ads. Please RSVP by Nov. 10th if you can join us for at great time.

The 2006 Cruiser Competition is winding down to the end for 2006. The November 19th (midnight) cut-off is approaching fast however, there is still plenty of time to get out and have fun enjoying your Vette; even enough time to gather enough points for the Bronze Award level.

Remember, this program is about enjoying your Vette, with or without a scheduled Cruiser event – you can cap-ture CCP points on your daily commute or to dinner with friends.

There was a small group of Cowtown members caravan-ning down for the event which consisted of an Open Car Show, an NCCC Car Show and a Funkhana.

There is still over three weeks / weekends to enjoy this cool weather and the fall leaves. Don’t forget you get NCCC travel points and a CCP point (incl. mileage) for attending an NCCC event – not to mention the stops and points along the way.

While we won’t know who wins them until around Thanksgiving time when all the points are turned in, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place awards are again very unique this year – they are one-of-a-kind specially created awards again. Remember, last year 76 points won 1st place, don’t assume that someone has more points than you do – its worth turning in your points/pictures regardless of how many you have.

Cruiser Points: as an update to the listings from last month (and one correction); if you participated in the fol-lowing socials / events here are some log entries to help you keep your CCP forms up to date. If you drove your Vette to these socials and/or NCCC events and took your CCP picture w/CCP logo sheet, you can log the fol-lowing:

Cen-Tex Car Show – 10/01/06 – Waco, TX – 1 pt* Eureka Springs Car Show – 10/7/06, 414 Miles – 3 pts* NCCC – CCT – Sherman – 10/14/06, <100 miles – 2 pts* NCCC – NTV – Sherman – 10/15/06, <100 miles – 2 pts* NCCC – LCC – Georgetown – 10/21/06, 161 miles – 2 pts* CTV Car Show – Ft Worth – 10/28/06, <100 miles – 1 pt* NCCC – SJCC – Houston – 10/28/06, 261 miles – 3 pts*

Any NCCC Event, you earn 1 point + 1-way mileage pts* *you do not receive mileage credit for the 2nd day of a 2-day event; i.e. mile-age points are only awarded for one day of your stay. Mileage points, like with NCCC and the Car Show points system are based from city to city; example, for Oklahoma City you can use Mapquest Driving Directions to enter a start of Ft Worth, TX and destination of Oklahoma City, OK, providing you with the 201 miles.

The 2006 CCP Awards / Levels are as follows: 1st Place1 = the individual with the highest number of cruiser points 2nd Place1 = the individual with the second highest number of cruiser points 3rd Place1 = the individual with the third highest number of cruiser points

Gold Patch = 75 points2 Silver Patch = 50 points2 Bronze Patch = 35 points2

1 could end in a tie by two or more individuals 2 rec’d by all that reach this level of cruiser points

Be sure to check out the CCP rules and if you have any questions or need clarification, or give me a ring. http://www.cowtownvettes.org/CCP/cruiserpgm.html

2006 Cruiser Photo Contest – There is STILL OVER ONE MONTH until the end of the annual photo contest but it isn’t too late to start!!! Even though the winner won’t be known until the December Contest, we have created another one-of-a-kind award for the annual photo contest – you have as good of a chance as any-one; so, have you captured your entries (up to 3) for the contest yet? The 2006 contest rules can be found on our website – under the Cruise Section. http://www.cowtownvettes.org/CCP/CCP_PC_06.html

If you have any questions about the Cruiser Program or Photo Contest, please feel free to contact me.

DUES MUST BE PAID BY NOVEMBER 3TH . After November 3rd there will be a late fee of additional $10.00 assessed by NCCC.

Thank you for your support as Governor over the last two years. I know I turned down the nomination for the Gov-ernor position back in September but after much thought and discussion I have decided to run for Governor again. Remember your club renewal dues. I need them by the November meeting so I can process them that weekend. A LATE FEE of $10.00 will be added to all renewals after November 3rd . This late fee is added by NCCC to all re-newals after the primary packets are processed. I will be processing Cowtown’s packet on November 4th & 5th. I have to process our club’s membership renewal forms and get them to the RMD by her date. She then has to do her thing and get all the Southwest Region (19 clubs) to National by their deadline. I will still be processing renewals after the initial packet goes out, just remember to add $10.00 to your check. By the end of October all competition in the Southwest region will be over. Many Cowtown members have been working very hard all year in the NCCC arena gathering points and fighting to stay ahead of their rival. Rival competi-tion this year has, for the most part, turned out to be between friends and club members. Here we are down to the last event of the year and every point counts so much so that first place may be determined by one point or a tie breaker. When this is all over I hope we remember that we do this for FUN and friendships which are more important than a $10,000.00 jacket. You know, Prince may have a song about a “Little Red Corvette” but he didn’t say what year -- 1977 or 1993?

2007 Officer Nominations

I hope everyone has been enjoying the recent Low-Downs. I have sure enjoyed working on them. Again, I want to thank everyone for their words of encouragement and the suggestions that I have been receiving. It makes this “volunteer” job even more rewarding to know that you are excited and passionate about our Low-Down. If you will notice I have tried to include more pictures of our club members and the activities we have been in-volved in the past month. Hopefully this will entice more of us to get involved in the diverse activities we have going on each month. Send me a picture, I will try to include it in next month’s newsletter. November and December will be very busy months for Cowtown Vettes. It will also be a time which dictates the future of our club. At November’s membership meeting we will be voting for our 2007 NCCC Governor, membership renewals will be drawing to a close and the floor will open once again for nominations of the elected officer positions. I encourage you to get involved. Whether by nominating a candidate, campaigning for a member you know will do a good job or by placing your own hat into the ring. We need enthusiasm, encouragement and we need leadership. I have been a member of this club for almost two years and have already seen many phases of Cowtown. I encour-age everyone to get involved to some degree. Attend a social, run for office, join a committee. As the year winds down and the votes are tallied, the points are totaled and we look forward to a new year, I ask…were you involved…are you proud of what you accomplished as a member…what can Cowtown Vettes do for you next year and what can you do for Cowtown Vettes? Manda Gorman, CTV Editor [email protected]

What's this? A floating Ferrari, Corvette or ? Well, not exactly, but the Hydra Spyder by Cool Amphibious Manufacturers International (CAMI). No, this is not that lame Aquacar from years past; this prototype amphibious vehicle can fly both on the water and the road (not in the air, but wouldn't that be cool), where its retractable wheels quickly move up tight into the seaworthy bodywork when it's time to do some motor boating. This is an amphibious vehicle that can travel on both the water or on the road. It is also unsinkable. This vehicle contains positive floatation foam approved by the United States Coast Guard for our am-phibious vehicles. Positive buoyancy is assured.

The Hydra Spyder can seat four (4) people, and it will easily pull a water skier. With the 400 h.p. engine the performance of the Hydra Spyder is unparalleled. It has even broke a water speed record and has been clocked at more than 130+ MPH on land (not that great for a Vette but for a combo vehicle ;) The company is completely prepared for full production on these amphibious vehicles with build time at approximately 6 months, (delivery time will depend on preceding orders). The company is taking orders now for delivery in six months, and the price? Order one for us and find out.

More Specs: The standard production model Hydra Spyder is powered by a Corvette LS2 Gen IV 6.0-liter V8 en-gine rated @ 400 h.p. @ 6000 rpm and 400 ft. lbs of torque @ 4000 rpm. six-speed TKO high-performance man-ual transmission. Front wheel drive with 3.73-1 axle ratio. A four-wheel disc-brake system, 17-inch rims and wheels, and a stainless steel Sidewinder exhaust system. On the boat side, the hull is all aluminum, which does-n't rust, and the upper structure is made of fiberglass. A Berkley Marine Jet powers the Hydra Spyder, while a computerized air-ride retractable four-point front and rear suspension system keeps it afloat. All of the additional weight brought on the frame to function as a boat is at the bottom of the vehicle. So, its heaviness doesn't impact the vehicle's roadworthiness. Transitioning from land to water or vice versa is as simple as switching transmis-sions from the car's to the boat's. This amphibious vehicle has individual bucket seats for the driver and passen-ger. And bench rear seat. The Hydra Spyder weighs approximately 3,300 lbs. 53-47% weight split with 53% on the drive tires on the front.

The weather is changing and many of the bigger shows have come to an end with Halloween.

Remember you have to submit your car show points before November 20th in order to be considered for point standings. At this moment it is neck and neck between Doc Lambert and John Brefczynski. I’m not saying these guys are sand- bagging but every time I call them their recorders

say they are at the airport (is it just me?).

I do know that Doc participated in the LCC Region Roundup NCCC car show in Georgetown, TX and John

did quite well in Eureka Springs with a second for his C4 at that very difficult show. Both Doc and John should continue to be congratulated for representing our club so well during the year.

I wish I could comment on the success of our 5th Annual Car Show but it is not until Saturday and Manda advises I cannot skate a few more days. What I can report is that the Car Show Committee has done an excellent job pull-ing this show together in just 8 short weeks. If the quality of volunteer work is to be any reflection of the show suc-cess, we can expect the best show yet. The weather forecast seems to be cooperating and we hope your com-mitment will continue to be recognized with your partici-pation on our show day. Fred Rosett

Webmaster & Historian Cowtown’s History never ends – with even more pic-tures from various events this past month and a few new Vette pictures from their owners. Please take a minute to recognize and thank those who have provided and shared – their names are listed towards the end of this article ...and I THANK YOU!!!

Please share pictures of the neat stuff your doing with your Vette – we are all Corvette owners and enthusiasts and most of us are always looking for new places to en-joy our Corvette and passion – so share yours!

_____________ I know I got on a soapbox last month about the 2007 Of-ficers and Board Nominations., and from the nomina-tions list – it is great to see folks getting nominated and several accepting. Please continue the thought about what Cowtown does mean to you – why you are a mem-ber and most of all, what you want as a result of your membership. While our membership numbers aren’t as large as in past years, we are still growing. This is excit-ing because a well rounded club does offer members various options to enjoy and participate with our com-mon interest, the Corvette. The huge numbers aren’t as important to me as that we want great participation in the fun; that we learn from each other, and work together to keep this club strong and in the direction that best fits its members and their needs.

I would invite you to revisit the “Historian Excerpt” in last month’s Low-Down around the existing Candidates, when looking at the list of Candidates and when nomina-tions are taken from the floor, next Membership Meeting.

For a list of officer and board positions that are needing candidates for 2007, along with the current nominee / accepter list, please visit our website – you can click on the link (off main website home page) for:

For history on our Club’s NCCC Competitors and cur-rent standings in both the SW Region and Nationally, please reference the Skid Pad section.

Our History Albums and Website Welcomes Your Photos. This past month, we have added event pages capturing the COAST, CCO, CCT & NTV NCCC Events, the CenTex Car Show, Doc participating in a parade, a couple of pictures from Eureka Springs, the NKF Walk, and a few new photos of Member Vettes. Event photos were provided by various Vette Owners, Doc Lambert, Karyn Fowler and the McMahans.

We DO NEED pictures of the 9/9/06 Laps for Children’s Charity at TMS, Eureka Springs along with ‘06 NCCC Convention if you have any to share.

Please take note of the members listed at the top of each of those event web pages which have helped us to capture Cowtown’s History. …NOTE: even after these pages are posted, it is never too late to submit additional pictures. This past month, we added 11+ event website pages containing 659 new images!!! ☺

If you would prefer, we even accept “PRINTED PHO-TOS” to add to Cowtown’s History / Photo Albums – the donation of these photos is greatly appreciated – so, or-der a 2nd set when having your film developed.

_____________ “The 32nd Year of Cowtown” – its only 2 months away now – the Custom Collage Poster that has been under creation for several months now is nearing completion; and it will be raffled off for charity at the December Mem-bership Meeting. This special collage will represent the 2006 year of Cowtown containing photos of events, members and various items from this year’s History. We hope you have been setting aside a few dollars so you can buy extra chances to win this collage for your own. Most important, it supports our Charities while you gain a piece of Cowtown’s history!!! In 2004, a similar collage was donated/raffled:

_____________ REMEMBER: whatever your Corvette interest is, pursue your passion, keep the spirit of fun and

fellowship in mind ...and most of all... HAVE FUN DOING IT!!!

If you have any suggestions, questions or comments about our website, email lists, how we are capturing our Club’s history, please don’t hesitate to drop me an email or give me a shout.

Regards, Douglas McMahan - CTV Historian
