While the rain playing the spoilt sport, the 3rd edition of TCV Shakti Rupena Samman rolls on amidst all hurdles..

SHIBRAMPUR FRIENDS' SOCIETY CLUB & LIBRARY, Sarsuna: In this 60th year the theme was Buddhist monastery, imparting the message of peace & harmony. Conceptualized by Sukhen Das, secretary and duo artists - Avik Biswas & Gopal Chakraborty along with the members of the club gave in their best effort which resulted to a brilliant craftsmanship. The detailing, decoration with light & sound created a mystic & serene ambience. They were awarded in two categories: Unique Concept in Pandal and Traditional with Theme for Idol & Decoration received by the members.

BAPUJI SPORTING CLUB, Nagerbazar: Rasasthani Paltan, rural word in Rajasthan for ‘chariot’, in which Devi Durga takes out her son Ganesha in a ceremonial procession was the 35th year's theme. Chief coordinator Keya Das conceived the theme with hands-on support by other members of the club, idol designing & hand painted colorful motifs on the roadway by Debmalya Das. The decoration including the idol gave the feel of Rajasthan’s art & craft. This committee unlike others has women in the foreground with consistent back-up support from the men. Award for Theme Pandal (Concept) was received by Keya Das & other members.

PRAFULLA NAGAR SHAKTI SANGHA, Dum Dum: The Lost World; a thematic representation of Jurassic Park was their offering in the 66th year. The tag line was – ‘omanisar rataay biluptoder sathe’ brilliantly brought out by artists Arindam Guha & Raju Shankar Das. The decorations, concept, representation & overall ambience gave a fearful & haunting feel. The dark interior with 3D wall paintings recreating the lost era & a big projection screen showing montage shots of the cinematic version seamlessly complimented the tag line. They committee received the Overall Concept award.

AJAY NAGAR ADHIBASI BRINDA, Dum Dum Pvt. Road: The 47th year theme was Ekal o Sekal, a replica of Karnataka's Durga-Kali temple. Artist Parimal Bose with simple materials created a feast for the eyes. The installation, decoration, cosmic lighting & especially the idol deserves special mention. The theme imparts the message of values & traditions in the by-gone era lost to the change in today’s world. The decorations were based on South Indian art and the idol; where Kali was in Nataraja style, a slight thematic twist from the traditional ‘pash kali’. At 1:30 AM when our team visited this last committee to announce & confer the award, the members & locals were very lively & high spirited which evidently enlivened their puja. The committee received two awards: Best Effort in Decoration and Best Idol.
