A Great Loss to Barrel Racing and Rodeo The rodeo world lost one of it’s greatest producers and friends with the passing of Bobby “Booger” Barter, who passed away today at his home in Athens, Texas. One of the most innovative producers in the roping and barrel racing industries, Booger did everything on a grand scale. From his truck ropings and barrel racings, Booger put some of the most beautiful prizes and largest checks in the hands of the barrel racing and team roping populace. Sadly, some of the greatest barrel racing and team roping events will pass on into to legend with this great man. A man of great stature in body and spirit, Booger Barter will be greatly missed by all who know him and had the privilege of enter-ing one of his great events. We know many of you had plans to attend the upcoming barrel race and team roping in Glen Rose, Texas. Those events have been cancelled, and World Barrel Racing and World Team Roping have ceased to exist as of today. Please give Booger’s family time to morn their loss. All fi nancial responsibilities of those events and WBR memberships will be taken care of in due course. Courtesy of www.worldbarrelracing.com

Stairs Loses Great Mare Lyndee lost her great mare Whitehorsescantjump (“Wapit”) late Monday night, November 30, 2009. Both Lyndee and Lance were by her side when she slipped away from apparent liver failure. Wapit was 13-years-old and had been retired to broodmare duty. She was in foal to the Stairs’ stallion Otro Fracaso. Wapit carried Lyndee to some of her greatest achievements in the arena. Together they qualifi ed seven times to the California Circuit Finals Rodeo, where they won the average once. They also earned fi nished second in the WPRA Rookie of the Year standings and won the California Circuit title. They represented the California Circuit twice at the Dodge National Circuit Finals qualifi er and fi nished in the Top 5 both years. Along with numerous pro rodeo wins, Wapit started out a winner for Stairs at the futurties as a 4-year-old. She’s also won many open divisional titles. Stairs seldom left the California, Nevada, Arizona region with Wa-pit and often refused to put several runs on the mare in a weekend. In fact, the only times, Wapit had to make four runs in a row during her life were at the DCNFR and the California Rodeo in Salinas. All totaled, Wapit ran out more than $200,000 during her career. “Not enough can be said about what this great mare has done for us,” said Lyndee. “She made me look good.” The Stairs would like to thank everyone for all the kind phone calls, text messages and internet postings and are deeply touched by how many people admired their great mare Wapit.

It looked to be a two woman race between Pozzi and Sears but they can’t count out Cervi. She’s in close pursuit with a world title in her sights.

Champion of Champions and Run For the BucksDecember 2-6, 2009 Ardmore, OK

The new bunch of futurity colts took on their fi rst challenge at the Champion of Champions in Ardmore, OK and some things just never change. Latricia Duke is still red hot in the futurity and slot race ranks. With KR The Black Pearl, owned by Odilon Diniz, and Threeturnsandreturn, owned by Arbie & Betty Miller, Latricia swept the fi rst two spots and $75,000 in prize money. KR The Black Pearl is by Dash Ta Fame, who has been a domi-nating presence in the slot races since their inception, and out of Tiny Cultured Pearl by Easy Saint with Pacifi c Bailey and Winken Wayne in the 4th generation. Easy Saint shows up quite often in performance horses for the amount of producers he has out there. KR The Black Pearl were rewarded with the $50,000 paycheck for their efforts. In second place, Threeturnsandreturn, also by Dash Ta Fame is out of the Dashing Investment mare Less Return who produced the big futurity winner from 2009, Return Of The Bully (over $100k in earnings to date). Threeturnsandreturn was Lot #4 in the Jud Little Ranch sale a little more than two months ago! Two months of ownership rewarded by a second place $25k check is a great return on investment. Not only did Latricia Duke sweep the top two spots of the Champion of Champions on December 3, but two of her former pupils, Yeah Hes Firen and Sign Of Passion, were placing 1st and 3rd in the 1st Round of the NFR for riders Brittany Pozzi and Tif-fany Fox! What a night that was for Duke.

Terri Wood Gates, West Jordon, UTThunder Equigames Charmayne James Barrel Race Champion

BRR: What horse were you riding? Wood Gates: GW Britlyn by First Down Express out of Miss Kizzy Kay, my second horse was Jordan, GW Jettin Jordan

BRR: Tell us about your horse and where she came from? Wood Gates: Britlyn is an eleven year old mare that we raised. We started her on the track as a 2 year old for one race. She didn’t show much at the track so Dad (Glen) started her on the barrels and Mom (Norma) ran her. Then they let me take her when I didn’t have a horse.

BRR: Your family has been breeding good barrel horses from dif-ferent sires for a long time, what is the key to that? Wood Gates: For years we raced horses so we just got a fast horse and hoped you could start them on the barrels. Years ago, we start-ed the ones that weren’t fast enough to make it at the track and then Mom suggested we barrel race the faster ones. We usually race them as 2 year olds and then barrel futurity them as 5 year olds. We have been lucky with Dash Ta Fames. They just want to be barrel horses.

We breed for race horses and my Dad really studied the bloodlines to breed for a race horse fi rst and barrel horse second, but it is on his mind to make them into barrel horses eventually.

BRR: What are your plans for 2010? Wood Gates: We actually have 3 futurity colts between Mom and I, she has one and I have two, so the rodeo horses will get a little time off and then we will hit the circuit rodeos. We have three Dash Ta Fame futurity colts out of a Sir Cashanova mare, an Easy Dozen mare, and a Streakin Six mare. (GW Ludicrous, GW Sierra, GW Jenny Lou)

BRR: Tell us about the experience of running for $30,000.Wood Gates: It was just a pure adrenaline rush. The opportunity to run there and the quality of competition is neat. Mom was the second one out and ran a super fast time. Then I felt bad for Nancy but I still had to concentrate on my own run. They hand rake after every run so it is really fair for everybody. It was so close and so many good horses. I waited to take my victory lap until they knew for sure. I was so thankful to win and have the opportunity to run at that much money. It’s hard to explain how I felt when they handed me the check for $30,000 and I realized it was real. I didn’t even think about the money going into the short go because I really didn’t expect to win it. It couldn’t have been anyone. There were 90 really good horses running. They all entered to win. I was so grateful to win. Last year I didn’t win a dime so I know how it is to be at the bottom and now I know how it feels to be at the top. I have to thank God because he gives us the opportunity to do this stuff. The people in barrel racing are just so nice, that’s why I enjoy going so much.

Headin’ For HomeHeadin’ For Home By Sherry MorrisonBy Sherry Morrison Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries) Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries)

Are thinking about the gifts you will be giving...or getting this month? Of course you are! So am I! I love the whole gift giving idea, December or not! It’s fun to watch someone re-

ceive something that I’ve given them! And it’s REALLY fun to get a gift when someone has thought especially of me, took their time and money and got it for me! It makes me feel really SPECIAL! We are ALL special, special to God, so very special that He gave Jesus for us. That was and will always be the very best, most precious gift ever given, but not necessarily the one most received. How can that be? When Jesus traded everything He has done right for everything you and I ever did wrong, the only catch was that we had to receive it. Many people don’t know that they need to ask Jesus to be their gift. You can read it in Romans 10:8-11. It’s so easy. And this gift of His being Lord over our lives never wears out, doesn’t get dirty or broken, doesn’t go out of style, never needs

updating like most electronics, (thank you Jesus!), brings us heal-ing, wealth, peace and anything else that we will EVER need that is good! So how about we do something a little different this year? Instead of throwing money at the “perfect” gift, let’s copy Jesus and give of ourselves to help someone. I can’t think of anyone better to copy and since we have gifts in us that no one else has, it’s a one of a kind gift! What a wonderful way to be a blessing and it doesn’t cost a dime! That is pretty stress free!
