We at Kimberley Chronicle would like to thank those kind olks who pointed out that people

ski jumping at the Blarchmont Hill later than 1938. We apologize or any con usion this maycaused. In this second edition we have a hockey story to commemorate the start o the playo s. also like to thank the Nitros or a great season. Te Kimberley Chronicle website is still under struction, however i anyone would like a digital copy o our last edition, eel ree to email [email protected].

What does Def Leppard haveto do with Kimberleys Hockey Club in 1926? Well, both organi-zations managed to be quite suc-cessful while having a key personon their team missing an alleg-edly important part of their anan-tomy. Rick Allen, the drummerfor Def Leppard has managedto be an integral part of a hugely sucessful rock band with only

one arm. Jim Peever managedto take the 1925-1926 Kimberley Hockey Club all the way to theCoy Cup Championship withonly one arm as well. To watcha goalie win a provincial cham-pionship with only a blocker andstick must have been a sight tosee. Not much is known about

Jim Peever and his time spent inKimberley. If any of our readershave any information we wouldlove to hear it. This story showsthat athletes in Kimberley have a long history of overcoming seem-ingly impossible physical adver-sities to compete in their sport. We can only hope that continues

    into the future.

our miles away lives the Esterbrook amily. In the amthree boys aged nine, eleven, and twelve years respectivelKimberley is the nearest school and every day these boythis distance to attend. All the way is through the woods wno house or habitation along the way. From early in Octotil April snow alls every day and attains a depth rom eight eet. Sometimes the storms are terri c, yet those heroes, with their dog as guide and philosopher, start out school every morning and return every night. It is a long

climb and a lonely way, but the reedom o the mountain vasntness o the snow, and the silent solemn grandeur oscenes about them ll them with the inspiration and the coage to do.It is this sort o experience in early li e that tilts the m years to be, to meet the urgencies o occasions that leasuccess. And it is to a lack o this to which may be attribthe incompetency and ailures we see around as by thosehave undertaken to do something at a time when they ee
