A Bit of Housekeeping With the changing of the season, we again have to worry about “critters” in the building. Please help us keep these guys OUT of the building. Make sure that you are leaving no food or drinks out and uncovered after church on Sunday, or after meetings and events. If you notice something amiss around the building, please let a member of the staff know so that we can address the issue as soon as possible.

The Worship Committee is completing another busy month with the close of August, 2019 . We had Worship services, special meetings, and activities during the month to carry out. We gave our best wishes to Katie Henderson, as she begins her studies at Austin Theological Seminary to become a minister. Katie grew up in our congregation and we
are so very proud of her and wish her the best and our full support as she begins this work. We also had the Blessing of Backpacks as part of our service the Sunday before school started in the Rockport-Fulton area. The theme of Rev. Miles messages this month was FAITH and HOPE. It is interesting how Faith and Hope tie together and he talked about that link often in our August messages. He closed the month with the message of the 3rd
commandment, Remember the Sabbath Day and Keep it Holy. Great reminder in our busy lives! I hope you have met Rev. Miles. He is like the morning breeze. There is a lot of sameness in what we are doing today under his leadership, yet his presence creates a strong urge to stretch our wings and begin thinking about what we want our church to be as we move ahead. Our Worship Committee meetings these days are usually spent discussing worship and planning what we can do to make our return to the Sanctuary for worship service meaningful and inspiring. As August winds down, join us saying “Thank You” for our August worship volunteers:
Head Ushers: Kenny Owens & Rick Roe & others who assisted Head Greeters: Kim Thompson & everyone who welcomed our worshipers Lay Communion Servers: Susan O’Bryant, Caron Cobb, Ken Owens, Brink Brinkerhoff Communion Preparer: Debbie Shedden Wine Provider: Sally Reynolds
Thank yous are in order for the performances of our chancel choir members during our worship services and to Merlene Flournoy and our Music Director, Yvonne Jaggard for the music they provide for worship. And for the families who contribute flowers to beautify our sanctuary each Sunday. We appreciate these special gifts. There are still some openings in the September & October calendar. Check this calendar on the Bulletin board in the hallway going to Fellowship Hall. Our first worship service in the Sanctuary this Fall will be September 1, 2019. We will have Communion service and our Music Director has promised beautiful music and choir offerings for this special worship . We also will begin using four lay communion distributors during our time in the sanctuary . More about that in next months Newsletter. “Notes” From the Music Director, Yvonne Jaggard
After enjoying our break from 2nd Sunday luncheons for the month of August, be will once again we hosting our
monthly get together with a good old fashioned Pot Luck meal on September
8th....bring your favorite dish or a new recipe you want to try out on your church
friends. Remember that some people show up to visit on Sunday morning and have
no notice of the luncheon and we would like to invite them to stay. Please keep
that in mind when deciding what to bring....devil a few more eggs, add another
can of corn to your veggie treat or even double that sausage in bar b q sauce dish
that always goes over so well, always better to have too much than not enough.
We always welcome help with drink set up, getting food out on the serving table, and most importantly, CLEAN
UP. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated!
The double glass doors to the gym are unlocked on the Sunday we have our luncheons. It may be easier to bring
your food in that way so as not to disturb the Sunday School class in the Fellowship Hall.

Program Committee
Your Outreach committee has been busy these past few months with handwritten notes to all whose names and addresses are currently found in the Church Directory. The notes were an announcement introducing our interim minister, Reverend Miles White, and included words of encouragement to listen for God’s message through Miles’ Sunday sermons.
The Outreach committee collects the sign-in sheets from each Sunday’s service and sends printed notecards to new visitors the following week. We would like to ask each member to help us make our visitors welcome, especially, if they make a return visit. Please be aware of those faces which may be new, sitting around you. Ask them their names and let one of the Outreach committee members know who they are, so that we may put a face to the names we are collecting and corresponding with.
We believe “outreach" adds value to people’s lives and we want our Church to be the best at “outreach” that it can possibly be!

better than the food is the fellowship! Come join us, and
bring a friend.
News from Presbyterian Women … Women, these are opportunities during September 2019 for growth and service, and a time to have fellowship with other women in the church. Please mark your calendars for the following experiences.

MINISTERING TO THE COMMUNITY
through the use of our facilities …
The Community Table
Community Table is up and running again with most all of the churches and organizations taking their designated Tuesday. At the present time, there are 2 coordinators from our church to oversee operations...this job is extremely easy and gratifying at the same time. We would like to have 1 or 2 more individuals to help out. The time involved is approx. 3 hours (4pm-7pm) on either the 2nd or 4th Tuesdays of the month. If you think this is something you would be interested in please contact Sally Reynolds (361 230-5254) or Veronika Camehl (361 500-6675 or 729-0448).
This piece of art was presented to Sally
Reynolds by one of our honored Community
Table guests, 10-year-old Chloe Nelson.
She had been at ArtLink and wanted to
share some of her work with the church.
Her work is currently on display in the
church office.

Odds and Ends A Note from Katie
Hello!
It has been a month since I have settled into my seminary housing and I am loving it! The campus has been buzzing with excitement as students return from summer internships and new students move into their apartments. It has been a joy to meet some new people as well as connecting with old friends. As I am writing this, orientation starts tomorrow! I will be meeting all my cohorts and professors. One day for orientation we are adventuring to John Knox Ranch. I am very excited to visit my childhood summer camp.
It has been nice to be back in Austin and attending University Presbyterian Church on Sundays. I have been getting involved in their young adult program which is a wonderful opportunity to meet with folks from around the city and discuss current issues. They have also started a new sermon series diving into the different parts of worship which seems appropriate as I begin my journey in seminary. I have also joined the Board of Directors for Ignite Texas, which is the student ministry I was involved with during college. It is such a joy to be able to continue to serve this organization that meant so much to me in college.
Some of you already know that before orientation started I was able to go visit my friend in Seattle. I took a day trip and drove to Portland to spend the day with Lori and Aaron Nance! It was so nice catching up with them and visiting Menucha, the retreat center Lori is working at. Lori shared some of her personal library with me and I now own her copy of A Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testament and Charlie Schuler’s copy of A Student’s Vocabulary of Biblical Hebrew. While I currently can’t read either one of them, it is exciting to bring a little bit of them along on my journey
Classes start on September 3rd. This semester I will be taking Intro to Theology, Hebrew, Intro
to the Hebrew Bible, and History of Christianity. I am equal parts terrified and eager to start
classes. Hopefully next month my update will be in fluent Hebrew (kidding)! Thank you for all
your encouragement and support.
