Friday at 5:00 several people went to The Mason Jar for dinner. Jack and Cath-

erine had security duty at that night’s events. The memorial service was at

7:00. It was a moving tribute to 18 Good Sam members who died in 2015 and

one in 2014. Sunset Ramblers stood in memory of Jeannie Gavin as Rich ac-

cepted a rose. We had two canine scares: Comet got out and ran around until a

kind lady offered him a cookie. He passed up going to Tom and Kathy who

were trying desperately to get him. Louis got out and had an adventure for sev-

eral hours. Many people were looking for him including Sunset Ramblers and

Southern Palms staff. He found his way home about 4 am black instead of

cream in color. Many prayers were answered. His mother Sue bathed him in

her shampoo and hoped that would remind him not to take off again.

Saturday everyone voted on Memories of Christmas Past displays and ugly

Christmas sweaters. Sunset Ramblers gathered at the Pines building at 4:00 for

potluck dinner. Max and Jill joined us again and so did Bryon and Linda Whit-

tie (ASD’s). Jack and Pat’s 32nd anniversary was celebrated. The entertain-

ment that night was Patsy Waszack. Sherrie won two times at this function,

Debby won once, and Jack and Catherine won a gift.

There were planned activities every day from walking with Liz and or break-

fast to entertainment at night. Rally goers could visit vendors, buy raffle tickets

for fundraisers, play games, check door prizes, enter the craft contest, go to the

flea market, go into Eustis or Mt. Dora, take advantage of the amenities of

Southern Palms, meet new friends and or visit old ones.

Rich, Tom and Kathy, Herb and Norma, and Ray and Peggy won door prizes.

Tressa won first and second places in the craft division and Ken won in the

photography division. Congratulation to all our winners!

It was hard to leave on Sunday so everyone stood outside and chatted. “Happy

Thanksgiving” was wished and “See you at Kelly’s in December “ was said.

Hear ye! Hear ye!

Chick and Debbie Thompson are our traveling mem-

bers. They recently retired from their jobs, sold their

house, and now live in their home on wheels. Most of

2015 was spent out west. They met and married in

Millington, Tenn. While Chick was still active duty

Navy. Shortly after being married, they moved to Or-

ange Park, Fl. When Chick retired from the Navy in 1990, they remained in

Orange Park until Debby’s job with State Farm took them to Winter Park, Fl.

After 3 1/2 years, they moved to Middleburg, Fl. where they lived until mov-

ing into the RV. They bought their first motor home in 1994 and have been

RVing since. They are enjoying life on the road but promised the kids (Tanya

and Richard ) to get back to the area for the holidays. While on the road, they

have been able to visit Chick’s son Tommy and their five grandchildren

twice. Home is where they park it, and they try to join our campouts when

they can.

What’s

Cooking?

Slow Cooker Chicken Vesuvio

By Pat Dean

Ingredients:

1 lb. red potatoes

1 small onion, cut lengthwise in

half, then crosswise into thin

pieces

1 red pepper, cut into strips

6 cloves garlic, minced

8 boneless, skinless chicken

thighs (two lbs.)

1/4 c. flour

1/2 c. Kraft zesty Italian dress-

ing

1/4 c. lemon juice

1 c. frozen peas

1/4 c. fresh parsley

Directions:

Place potatoes, onions, peppers,

and garlic in slow cooker. Top

with chicken. Whisk flour,

dressing, and lemon juice until

blended. Pour over ingredients

in slow cooker. Cover with lid.

Cook on low 7-9 hours or on

high 5-6 hours.

Stir in peas. Cook. Covered, 10

minutes or until peas are heated

through. Sprinkle with parsley.

Note: Pat cut the chicken thighs

into strips and the potatoes into

fourths. This way everyone

would get chicken and potatoes.
