An Affiliate of the Society of Decorative Painters December 2016 Volume 13 Issue 12
December Letter from Interim President and First Vice President Lana Raymond:
Judy B., we missed you at the November meeting and we hope that you will gain your strength back very soon.
I want to thank everyone who came for the Chapter meeting on Saturday to vote for officers and workshop projects
for 2017.
The officers for 2017 are:
President: Lana Raymond
1st Vice President: Linda Doup
2nd Vice President: Mary Lou Persutti
Secretary: Georgia Strein
Treasurer: Ruth McDonald
Newsletter Editor: Jan Nichols
We had a nice relaxed time with a lot of laughs at Stewart Maxcy’s turtle class on Saturday. We hope to get Stewart
to teach us again next year – maybe a manatee or octopus or some other ocean creature. I will get some samples of
his projects for our consideration.
For our January 7th class, we are planning a “Free Paint” day for UFOs (unfinished objects) to complete workshop
items and/or items we want to paint and donate to the Chapter for our 2017 auction in March. We will ask everyone
to bring their own surface, paints, brushes, etc., but we will have additional surfaces and paints available for everyone
to use and choose from. If you finish your auction item, you don’t have to cart it home! You can leave it and it will
be put in storage till the auction. Please let me know if you are coming to the paint day.
I want to bring up a subject that has caused some confusion. At one of our Chapter meetings this year there was a
motion and second for the Chapter to provide (and pay for) lunches for our workshop and seminar classes. Howev-
er, there was no discussion at the time, so no future plans were made. After much consideration, the Board has de-
termined that the Chapter’s out-of-pocket expenses for rent (Woman’s Club), storage unit (Bird’s Nest), subsidizing
membership to SDP, subsidizing expenses for seminar teachers, subsidizing teacher fees when fewer than 12 mem-
bers sign up for a class (the teacher is assured a minimum fee of $120 no matter how many students sign up for the
class), Christmas party expenses, etc., there are minimal discretionary funds remaining in our account.
One lunch option would be for the Chapter to provide a meal each month with a cost to each member of $5 or $6
(to be determined). For the Chapter to provide lunches every month at our classes, there needs to be someone to
assume the duty of “lunch lady.” This requires a lot of planning and organizing. We need to have more discussion
on this topic to determine if we want to have lunch provided with the Chapter to be reimbursed for any food expens-
es, and if we have volunteers to prepare and/or purchase and provide the food.
We are working on the workshop schedule for next year. We had some great projects submitted for our considera-
tion. 2017 is going to be a great year.

KIDS R FIRST Lee, Jane and I met with Vicki Mathis of
Guardian ad Litem at the Eagles Nest Stor-
age Unit on Friday, November 4th at 9:30
a.m. We gave them 109 painted boxes,
plus many bags of gift items for the kids.
The GAL ladies were very happy with our
results and could not thank us enough.
One of the GAL ladies said that each box is
more beautiful than the last. If anyone has
more boxes or gift items for the kids, I will
be happy to deliver them to the GAL office
in Bunnell.
This is such a rewarding project for our
Chapter. I will watch Michael’s for sales on
the photo boxes and pick them up for our
members to paint in 2017.
Thanks again for all of your hard work.
Lana Raymond
For planning purposes, if you are coming to the January 7th-meeting and/or Free Paint Day, please call or email Lana Raymond. We are plan-ning a pot luck luncheon for this meeting!

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? Bank account balances only tell part of the story. After having been asked this question, I thought it might be an appro-priate time to give a quick snapshot of how our money is spent – where the money goes. Expenses are really divided into 2 types – fixed and discretionary. Fixed costs must be paid regardless of what may hap-pen. They are our ‘survival’ costs. MAJOR FIXED COSTS: Monthly Annual Rent $45.00 $ 540.00 Storage Rental $81.32 $ 975.84 Website $ 9.95 $ 119.40 Website Monthly Maintenance $10.00 $ 120.00 Society of Decorative Painters (SDP) $ 8.50 $ 102.00 Bank Fees (includes checks) $ 8.83 $ 106.00 Total . . $163.60 $1,963.24 The rest of our spending is discretionary, meaning we have more control over what we use this money for: MAJOR DISCRETIONARY COSTS Monthly Annual Workshop Subsidies $ 8.34 $ 100.00 Seminar Subsidies $ 33.34 $ 400.00 Christmas Party (varies by about $25) $ 14.58 $ 175.00 Workshop Certificates $ 29.17 $ 350.00 Kids-R-First Photo Boxes $ 26.67 $ 320.00 Total . . $ 163.60 $1,345.00 Note: The above discretionary costs do not include Hospitality, Sunshine, stationery or postage expenses. A checkbook balance of approximately $4,000 should be maintained to meet our financial obligations at this time. PCDP’s income is derived from membership dues ($15 x 34 = $510/yr), monthly raffles, occasional donations, the Fash-ion Show, and our annual Mad Hatter’s Auction. As you can see, our participation in all of our activities, including work-shops and seminars, is critical in order to have a thriving organization. I hope this gives everyone a better view of our financial picture. Sincerely,
Ruth McDonald, Treasurer
